THE THIRD DAY OF THE CELEBRATION

Dalian didn't care about the Blood Moon celebration anymore. He cared for nothing but getting his woman back.

He had returned to the packhouse in the early morning to meet a mess—people whispering about Mia and what she had done. How she had snapped and nearly killed someone.

They deserved it. They had backed her to the wall over and over again until she finally snapped at them. His only regret was he wasn't there to hold her and try to comfort her.

Ah, right. Even though he was there, she wouldn't let him.

When he had heard from Ravenna that she had left, it felt like a blow to the gut. She left… He hadn't anticipated that part. He thought she would still remain and he could still see her even from afar, he could still catch her scent.

He went to her room and she barely took any of her belongings but the place had felt so empty.

He wanted to find where she was and go to her, but he would wait. He would wait until he had good news and they could

Ravenna just stared at Dalian with tired eyes. “Yes, Dalian. A ball. The ball where we’re going to start the talk of marriage.”Ah, yes. A ball. Dalian remembered. When they had been making plans and preparations, the idea of a ball had come up. A ball is where the talks of marriage will emerge—first as a whisper, then louder. And then a ballroom is also a perfect place to find a match. The Lupinarians who agreed to this will be at the ball—men and women alike. Thankfully, each pack had come with at least five people, so a match could be made with at least one person apart from the Alpha and Luna. He nodded as he stroked Juniper’s hair. “Yeah, I remember. But I won't be there.”Ravenna sighed. “I thought as much.”“Mia will be there,” Darius said, and Dalian snapped his head to him, his eyes wide. “S-she will?” he asked, a little too pathetic, too eager—like a dog to its master. “She said so?”Darius shook his head. “No, but we are going to make her come.”Dalian raised an eyebrow

“Da-Dalian,” Aria choked out, her nails digging into his hand, her eyes watering. She struggled against him, but he didn't loosen his hold. His body was vibrating with anger. His blood was humming with it. How dare she? She had the nerve to boldly accuse Mia after what she’d done. It made him see red, but he loosened his hold and she inhaled deeply, coughing. “One way or another, Aria,” he said while she still coughed, “you’ve got to get it in your head that I will never accept you as my mate. I would sooner rip my own heart out than do that.”He released her and she dropped to the ground, rubbing her red throat and glaring at him with her red eyes. “And I will not tolerate any bad words against my woman,” he warned, his eyes hard. “Not from anybody. Not from you. Next time, I'm not sure I’ll be able to let go on time.”He turned, eager to get to the training room before he would explode with anger. “You’re mine, Dalian,” Aria whispered, but he still heard. He didn't look back an

“Did you see that glare?”“Just like her father’s.”“Do you see how she acts around the alpha?”“Just like her father did.”“Did you see the way she spoke back to the alpha?”“Just like the way her father always did.”Just like her father. Just. Like. Her. Father. Justlikeherfather. Those were the ones that filled Mia’s head like an invasion as she slammed her fist into Rosè’s throat over and over again. Every time she moved, every time she breathed—just like her father. Mia didn't mind being like her father, but when they spoke those words with such hostility, with such heavy poison on their tongues, they sank into Mia’s bones and filled her head. She was her own person. She did things on her own. Why won't these bastards let her father rest in peace? It had been years—since she was a child, and now she was grown. Why can't they just let it go and let him rest? “Why?” she sobbed as she continued to punch Rosè, her fist turning raw. She felt hands on her, trying to pull her away,

The pain in Dalian’s eyes was heart-wrenching. That pain flowed from him and sank into Mia, engraving itself in her bones and giving her a scar that she was sure she would never recover from, a scar she would carry on her soul. Why… why couldn't he understand she was doing this for him? Huh? Just why?! She didn't want him to feel any more pain, so she would continue being the bad person just this once—and set him free. He would no longer be held down by her again. He would be free from her selfish needs and desires. And he would have his mate. Mia didn't know much about mates breaking the bond, but she knew it was not going to be easy. She knew doing something like that would leave a mark, and it was damn dangerous. So she was trying to help him. Why couldn't he see that?“You already made up your mind,” he whispered, looking at her with anger hard in his gaze. She cleaned her tears, nodding. “Yes. I'm sorry.”“Don't say that!” he yelled and she flinched. “Don't fucking say you'

Dalian stopped walking and raised his hands so she'd know he wouldn't chase her again. It worked, because she stopped walking and regarded him with narrowed eyes.“Mia,” he called out softly. “Baby, will you listen?”She nodded without missing a beat. “Of course. Speak all you want, but it won't change a thing.”He swallowed down the hurt and just took a deep breath. “There is nothing wrong in taking and wanting, beauty. There is nothing wrong with your father trying to secure a future for you. Maybe he saw you weren't going to do well in the pack, and he wanted you to have a place—a plan B. Tell me where the wrong is in that. It was just a father looking out for his daughter because he loves you.”He took a very, very slow step towards her and she didn't notice because she was so hung up on his every word, her lips parted and eyes wide. “There is nothing wrong in taking and holding on and demanding. You being selfish and demanding doesn't make you a bad person. It means you have a s
