FLAVIA'S POV

A week later...

"I can't believe that you actually got married to him." Jazz pointed out after the wedding as she was walking me to the parking lot where Louis is waiting.

"Well, he offered a lot of money and you know how much I need money, I can help with your house rent and I can finally getting a good space for my business." I know I have to move in with Louis but I won't leave her to handle the house rent by herself. We couldn't even comfortably afford it when we were two, so it will be unfair to make her pay everything by herself.

"That's true but you can't stand his gut and I am just worried about how you will cope with him while living together, it will be very chaotic." It's true that I am upset with him and I can't stand him but at the same time, I don't go around creating problems, so if he stays in his lane then I will stay in mine.

"It's not going to be easy but I will try to over look all his excesses."

Ordinarily, we shouldn't be having issues because he is a cute guy and he is still as handsome as ever. If I am being honest, he is still my type and I like him but I hate the fact that he can't remember me plus he has grown rude and I can't just stay quiet for him.

"That's good, just be calm and focus on the goal, a year will be over before you know it." Jazz stated but from what I can see right now, it won't be that easy.

"Hell no, I am going to give him war jazz." I stated confidently when we got to the parking lot and I noticed that he is gone. "Where have you ever seen the groom leave the wedding venue without his bride?" I asked curiously.

"Ummm, I don't know. Maybe he had an emergency." She reasoned but I honestly don't care what his excuse is, I am doing him a favor, so he has to treat me nicely.

"It doesn't even matter, just take me to his place."

We got into the car and she drove me over to his place, I was thinking that I will be a little patient with him and tolerate him as much as possible but for what he just did, I won't spare him... I will give him the same energy that he gives me.

...

After saying my good byes to Jazmine, I entered his house and I slammed the door as loudly as possible to announce my presence. "That is an Italian door, you can't just bang it like that." Louis pointed out as soon as I got to the living room.

"So, you are here." I noted when I saw him watching TV. "Does it make sense to you to leave your wife at the wedding venue when I am doing all of this for your benefit? You couldn't even ask your driver to wait and bring me." What was the need of actually leaving me there.

"What do you want? For me to put a red carpet out for you? You need to stop thinking too highly of yourself, you are not important enough for me to ask my driver to pick you besides you wasted too much time and I couldn't wait." If not that I have signed the contract, I would have just turned around and left for good because he is so annoying and I can't stand him.

"I will just pretend that I didn't hear the nonsense you just said, where is my room because there is no way in hell I am sharing the same room and bed with you because touching me is not part of the contract." I pointed out because God knows that I will literally kill him in his sleep.

"Thinking that I can even touch you is an insult to my personality! Here I am thinking about the sex position that produced a specimen like you and you think I will touch you? Look, just in case you don't know, I am allergic to ugliness." I have never been more insulted in my life, did he just refer to me as ugly?

"Wow, that's so rich coming from you. If I am ugly, then what are you? Have you seen yourself lately because as far as I am concerned, there is nothing attractive about you... You are big for nothing, your big body frame is exactly a replica of an estate gate, you are definitely far from being attractive." I stated.

If I am being honest, he is handsome and I love his size, I am actually attracted to chubby guys but he just insulted me and I can't let him get away with it.

"Ahahaha, that's not new. I know my size but there is no need bantering words with you. As long as you are here, I have a few rules... So jot them down if you have to." He stated and I just stared at him. "No untidiness, I need everything to be exactly where I left them, do not sit on this couch." He pointed at the couch he just got up from. "It's Italian and it's my favorite, no noise or loud music, stay out of my way and out of sight... If you follow my rules, there will be peace." He said sternly and I am more determined to frustrate him, starting by breaking all his rules.

"Okay, how about I stop breathing?"

"Do that, it's perfect. Your room is the first door by the right." He pointed out and I just picked up my suitcase and I made my way up the stairs.

There is no need bantering words with him because I already know how to deal with him, I will frustrate him till he regrets ever asking me to be his wife. By the time I am done breaking all his rules and constituting a nuisance, he will end the contract himself.

LOUIS'S POVTommy and I were still tasting victory when the phone rang. We had barely sat down... still riding that high after the boardroom... “Thats Flavia, right?” Tommy asked before I could check the caller ID. He grinned at me like it was obvious. And he was right, it was Flavia. "Yes, give me a minute."I answered her call with the easy cadence I use when everything’s under control. “Hey, sweetie. I was about to call you...”Her voice cut me off like ice. She wasn’t laughing. She wasn’t flirty. She was raw and breaking.“Louis…” she said, and then she started to cry. The moment I heard her voice and she started crying, I knew something was horribly wrong... I didn't want to panic but I couldn't help it, not when she sounded like that...“What’s wrong?” I asked, every pleasant thing in me evaporating.“I think… we... we just killed Carter,” she said.A second of nonsense... my brain scrambled for a joke, for some explanation that would make it make sense but before I could say

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 62 ~ THE BREAKING POINT

FLAVIA'S POVLouis had been way too happy this morning. Not that I didn't like and enjoy the fact that he was happy but it was the kind of happy that made you suspicious. He was whistling while putting on his tie, smiling at his reflection, and humming under his breath like life was a damn musical...Now... I love seeing him in a good mood... who wouldn’t? But something about it didn’t sit right with me...So, of course, I told Jaz.“He was so excited this morning while dressing up,” I said... leaning back in my chair with a sigh. “Like, unusually excited.”Jaz looked up from her tablet, arching a brow. “And what’s wrong with that? Isn’t that what women pray for... a man who’s actually happy to go to work?”I gave her a look. “Yes but this was different. I tried asking what the meeting was about, and he said, ‘I don’t want to lie to you, babe. We will talk when I get back.’”Jaz’s eyes widened. “Ooooh. So it’s one of those ‘I will tell you later’ situations.”“Exactly.” I frowned... f

LOUIS'S POVCarter snatched the folder from the table, his face already flushed red ... He flipped through the pages like a madman, each turn of the paper loud and shaky... “Hell no, no, no, no,” he muttered... “This can’t be true.”“Oh, it’s very true.” I said calmly, watching the storm build behind his eyes.He glared at me. “How the hell did you acquire shares in my company without my knowledge?”I leaned back in my chair, fingers steepled, enjoying every second of this. “Well, you were too busy chasing after married women and people who didn’t want you, Carter. You forgot to focus on what actually mattered... your company.”“I can’t let that happen,” he snapped.“It already did,” I said smoothly... “And there’s nothing you can do about it...”His eyes narrowed... “You called this meeting to gloat?”I laughed hard at his statement, as much as I would love to gloat, it would be ridiculous to call a meeting just to gloat, that's crazy... I gave him a cool smirk. “No. I called this m

LOUIS'S POVA week later.I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my tie for the third time ... The reflection staring back at me looked sharp... tailored black suit, gold cufflinks, polished shoes. It was more than confidence... it was victory dressed in Armani.Today wasn’t just another day at the office. Today, I was going to watch Carter Spencer’s world collapse... by my hand. The bastard still didn’t know I had bought out the majority of his company. For a week, he had been parading around like the king he thought he was, oblivious to the fact that the throne was already gone... And now, for the first time ever, I was paying him a little visit... to look him dead in the eye and let him feel the fall...As I was fixing my cufflinks, Flavia walked in ... Her heels clicked lightly on the marble, and I caught her reflection in the mirror... soft curls, that silk robe hugging her like temptation…“Someone looks good,” she said… smiling. “Where are you going all dressed up like that?

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 59 ~ A QUIET VICTORY

FLAVIA'S POVI got home early, humming to myself as I kicked off my heels by the door ... The trending news about Carter had been the highlight of my day, and deep down, I knew it had Louis written all over it. The scandal was everywhere... his face plastered across every major network and gossip site. I couldn’t even pretend to feel sorry for him especially after calling to threaten me...I poked my head into the kitchen... smiling at Alison. “Hey, I want something special tonight ... Let’s do pan-seared honey-glazed salmon with a side of white rice and a nice dessert.”She nodded immediately. “Yes, ma’am. I will get it done.”“Perfect.”I headed upstairs… took a long shower, and changed into something soft... cream silk, the kind that made me feel effortless and light… By the time I was brushing my hair, I heard the familiar sound of Louis’s footsteps down the hall...He opened the door… and my heart did its usual flip. “Welcome home, baby,” I said, smiling up at him. “How was your

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 58 ~ MAJORITY RULE

LOUIS'S POVTommy swaggered in with that tired-grin look he gets when things start falling into place. The TV in my office was on the business channel... the sticker scrolling like it owned the world... and the anchor was running a fresh package. New headline: BREAKING NEWS... Carter Spencer Faces Multiple Wrongful-Termination and Coercion Allegations; Sponsors Pull Back. The banner below that read... Major Clients Sever Ties Amid Scandal. It wasn’t subtle. It wasn’t quiet. It was the kind of public wallop that leaves people looking for corners to hide in.Tommy and I watched for a moment, the two of us with our coffee untouched. The clip rolled through interviews with former staff, HR emails, and a string of cancelled client statements. There was a crisp cruelty to the way the media trimmed a man’s reputation down to nothing... just facts, a few assembled quotes, and suddenly a name was toxic.Tommy laughed, a short, hard sound. “You have completely ruined him,” he said, sounding al
