MasukI was stunned when the little boy called me Mommy. I heard Aaron cough.
He turned to me. “Sorry about that. She just missed her Mom,” sabi niya. I saw Azril walked to her Dad, looking down while his cute lips were pouting. I chuckled. “No, it's fine. He’s adorable,” I said while smiling at Azril. Aaron nodded and turned to his son who’s just staring at me. “Azi, Elora will be the one who will take care of you from now on. Got it?’ Azril nodded slowly, still looking at me. I smiled and waved at him. He is adorable. I realize that he just looks like his Dad. Sobrang magkamukha ang dalawa. He’s the little version of Aaron. His eyes were still on me. “Hi, Azril, I’m Elora. It’s nice to finally meet you,” I smiled. He doesn’t look like he’s happy though. He looked up at his father. His father said something to him, I saw Azril nodded and finally looked at me. He smiled. I’ve met a lot of kids back then but he’s just so different. I just saw him today but I’m so fond of him already. I remembered when he called me his Mom. Aaron mentioned that he just missed his Mom. I suddenly got curious about it. Wala akong nakitang bakas o narinig tungkol doon. I sighed and heard a knock. It’s Dulce who has a tray with avocado juice on it. “Thank you, Dulce. Nag abala pa po kayo.” Tipid itong ngumiti. “Hindi mo ba gusto ang avocado shake?” she asked. I glanced at the avocado juice she brought. “A-Ah, hindi naman po. Thank you po ulit.” I nodded and smiled at her. She sighed. Her words were still on me. The curtains were moving with the strong wind. I walked towards the balcony and took the avocado juice to drink. Naubos ko agad iyon dahil masarap. “Madame. Pinapatawag po kayo.” I nodded and finished combing my hair. It’s early in the morning at buti na lang ay lagi akong maaga nagigising. Maybe this is will be the start of my work. I was a bit hesitant because of what happened yesterday. “Good morning Azril.” I smiled at him. Aaron stood up from his seat and pulled the chair for me. I thanked him and looked at Azril who was just watching us. I can see Aaron and Azrill exchange glances with each other. Para bang nangungusap ang mga tinginan nila. I stopped when they both looked at me. Aaron cleared his throat and leaned on his chair. I noticed that he’s wearing a suit, it is obvious that he is ready for work. “Elora, I have work today. You will be with Azril. You will update me if I need an update, is that clear?” I nodded. “Yes, Aaron.” Maybe he finds me strange because he just met me. “Azi and I already talked. Dulce will tell you the everyday agenda of Azril. If you have questions you can ask me,” pormal na sinabi ni Aaron. I nodded and was about to respond when Azril spoke. “You can also ask me…” Azril said, almost a whisper. I smiled and nodded at him. “Sure, Azril. Thank you.” He nodded and pursed his lips. He glanced at his Dad who was looking at me. Aaron finished his food first. He took his things and coat. He kissed his son's forehead. May binulong pa ito sa anak bago tumingin sa akin at magpaalam. “I'll go now, Elora. You can reach me anytime. I'll go ahead now.” Tumalikod na ito mula sa amin paalis. “Okay, Aaron. Take care,” habol ko. Nakita kong natigilan siya saglit at parang gusto lumingon ngunit tuluyan na itong umalis. I finished my food and Azril was still eating. I'm just watching him eat his fruits. I can see that he eats properly. We're both walking towards his room. His room was also clean. There are paintings hanging on the wall. “You also paint, Azril?” I asked. He turned to me as he got a book on the bookshelves in his own room. “No. My Mom is,” tipid na sagot nito. I nodded, now getting it. His Mother is really into art and paintings. I got curious about his Mom but I didn't ask. “How about you? What's your hobbies?” I asked. He sat on the sofa and I just stood near the sofa. “Reading, playing a lot of instruments, chess, solving mathematics. And I'm also studying art because I want to learn art and do paintings… like Mommy,” he answered. My mouth parted, amazed by his hobbies. I looked at his books, there's a lot of books on his bookshelves. I noticed that there's historical, science, anatomy and physiology, ethics, math, and many more. “That's amazing, Azril. He nodded and slowly his lips curved into a smile. “I'm also the top student in our school. I'm always at the top,” he also said, smiling. I smiled when I saw him smiling, finally. “Wow! You're a top student at your school, Azril. Your parents must be proud of you!” I gave him a thumbs up. He nodded and stood from his seat to get something in his drawer. I took it from his hands and stared at his painting. “You painted this?” I asked. “Yes! That's my first art.” I smiled. Magaling ang batang ‘to! It's his first try but it looks so good. Hindi magulo at maayos sa mata tignan. Maganda ang mga napiling kulay at tama. There's a woman in his painting, standing watching the waves of the sea. The sky is fixed purple and sky blue. Nakakamangha. “We should hang this on your wall, Azril. It's your first painting. It's beautiful,” I said. “Really? It's beautiful? You think it's good po?” tanong nito at namimilog ang mga mata. I chuckled and nodded at him. It's Saturday so he has a lot of free time. “You'll start with your study now, Azril?” I asked. He nodded and took three books. “Okay. Call me if you need anything, okay?” “Where are you going to stay?” “Can you just stay here?” he asked. I nodded and smiled. “I'll stay here with you, Azi,” sabi ko. He smiled. “I liked it more when you called me Azi.” “Okay, Azi. Iyon na ang itatawag ko sa iyo.”“We are so proud of you, Elora. You know if I was in your place and I experienced all of that, I wouldn’t survive. It’s just… it’s too much. But you, you are so strong that you got through it all.” Jane smiled at me sweetly, the sadness in her eyes showing. There was a softness in her voice, the kind that wrapped around your heart like a warm blanket, comforting and reassuring. “Auntie would be so proud of you. She’s not with you, but I know she’s always looking out and taking care of you. You grew up independently and yet you’re so successful in life now.” Kate said, her words gentle but firm, full of admiration. They comforted me, they hea
The first light of dawn crept softly across the sky, painting the horizon in pale golds and soft pinks. The world was still half-asleep, wrapped in that fragile silence that exists only before morning truly begins. I opened my eyes slowly, blinking against the dim glow filtering through the window.Aaron’s arm was still draped over me — heavy, warm, comforting. Azi was between us, curled up like a little kitten, his soft breathing calm and steady. For a moment, I just lay there, listening. The quiet hum of the ceiling fan, the faint rustle of the curtains, the distant sound of waves brushing against the shore. It was that kind of silence na hindi nakakailang. It didn’t demand anything. It just existed — gentle, patient, full of peace.I turned slightly and looked at Aaron’s face. His lashes rested softly against his skin, his lips parted a little as he slept. There was something so human about seeing him like that — unguarded, calm, vulnerable. Years had added faint lines near his eye
The drive from the cemetery was quiet. His thumb brushed against my skin once in a while, a small gesture that said more than any word could. The silence wasn’t heavy this time—it was comforting. It was the kind of silence that made you breathe slower, that made the world feel gentle for once.Azi was sitting in the backseat, humming softly as he looked out the window. His little fingers traced shapes on the glass while his eyes followed the trees passing by. His innocence, his laughter—it was the kind of light that made everything feel okay again, even after a day that felt so emotionally draining. After a while, Aaron glanced at me. “Do you want to stop somewhere before heading home?”I blinked, still lost in thought. “Where do you have in mind?”He smiled faintly, that familiar softness in his eyes
The morning sun was soft and gentle as it filtered through our curtains, touching the walls with a faint golden glow. The air felt calm, yet my chest felt heavy. It was the day I decided to finally face the past—to visit my parents’ resting place again.“Where are we going, Mom?” Azi asked, his small voice breaking through my thoughts as I zipped his little jacket. His wide, innocent eyes looked up at me, full of curiosity.“We’re going to visit your grandmother,” I replied softly, smiling at him even though a small ache throbbed in my chest. “Remember what I told you yesterday? We’ll bring her flowers.”He nodded eagerly and wrapped his tiny arms around my waist. I chuckled softly, hugging him back. That warmth… It always reminded me why I had to keep moving forward.I’m trying. Every single day, I’m trying.Kahit na masakit pa rin, kahit na minsan pakiramdam ko ay bumabalik ang lahat ng sakit, I’m learning to accept it little by little.Because I have to.I have to accept the pain i
The sound of birds outside the window woke me up. Morning light filtered through the thin white curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Azi was still asleep beside me, his tiny hand resting on mine. I watched his peaceful face for a moment — his lashes fluttering slightly, his lips curved into a faint smile. It’s strange how something so small, so ordinary, can bring so much peace. For the first time in a while, I didn’t wake up crying. The ache was still there, yes — but it wasn’t as sharp anymore. Parang unti-unti na lang siyang nagiging kirot na kaya ko nang tiisin.I carefully got up, making sure not to wake Azi. As I stepped out of the room, I found Aaron in the kitchen, still in his loose gray shirt and pajama pants, busy frying eggs while humming softly to himself. The smell of coffee and toasted bread filled the air.He turned when he heard me. “Good morning, baby,” he greeted, smiling warmly. “Did you sleep well?”I nodded, rubbing my arms lightly. “Yeah… a little bett
“How are you feeling, my love?” Aaron’s voice was soft, almost a whisper, as he sat beside me on the bed. His hand reached for mine, warm and gentle, and he pressed a kiss on the back of my palm. His eyes met mine, full of concern and quiet sadness. I forced a small smile and nodded slowly. “Yes, I’m feeling a little better now,” I murmured, though even I could hear the uncertainty in my voice. Somewhere deep inside, I feel that connection—yung hindi mo kailangang alalahanin para maramdaman. I know they cared for me, that they loved and protected me when I was still just a baby, fragile and innocent.
