Next day.

Abigail’s day began with a text message from the realtor she had been waiting for.

"Ms. Snow, someone has finally accepted your offer. Please call me once you read this. They want to sign a contract today."

Her heart raced as she read the text. When she looked at the time, the message arrived in her inbox last night at 11 PM, which surprised her.

She worried the homeowner who accepted her price would cancel the deal.

Abigail hurriedly called the realtor to ensure that the owner had not canceled the deal or that no one had snatched her future house.

"Mr. Caleb, this is Abigail. I’m sorry to call you so late. I’m really sorry," she said, forgetting to greet him.

"Ms. Snow, thank God you finally called," the panicked tone from the other end was clear, causing Abigail to feel even worse for calling him so late.

"I’m sorry, Mr. Caleb. I just read your text now. I hope the house is still available. God, it’s my last chance to have a roof to live and sleep. Is the house still available for me?" Abigail mumbled before finally asking, unable to hide her curiosity and worry.

"Yes, it is. Can you come to the house address this morning? The owner wants the new tenant to sign the rental agreement quickly because he has to fly to another country at noon."

"Yes, I can. I surely can, sir..." Abigail hurriedly replied.

This was her huge win: paying only $400/month. She never expected someone to accept her offer of lower than the market rate so quickly. This was beyond her imagination.

She thought Caleb would ask her to raise the price, but luck seemed finally willing to be on her side.

’Finally, someone was willing to accept my $400, huh!’ She stifled a smile.

"Okay, I will send you the house address. Please don’t be late. You must be at the address by nine. The homeowner will meet you there..." Caleb explained.

"Okay, sir. I will arrive before nine. I appreciate your help, Mr. Caleb."

Abigail was grateful she didn’t have to go to the café this morning, as she will work on the second shift. This morning, she plans to visit another realtor far from her current area to find a cheap rental apartment.

She glanced at her watch; she still had forty-five minutes before nine to prepare herself.

Wearing her jeans and white shirt, Abigail waited on the sofa, staring at her cell phone and waiting for Caleb’s text message.

Before long, she finally heard a buzzing sound on the table. Hurriedly, she checked her phone and found a text from Caleb with an address.

When she read the house address, Abigail was puzzled. She didn’t know the area. Still, she left her Airbnb while entering the address into her phone’s Gmap app.

However, once the map showed her the directions, she was surprised to find that the address was not far from her current location. She only needed to walk five minutes to the hill behind the building.

"Wait! This place is a residential area, not an apartment complex..." She was taken aback when she finally walked toward the hill.

She didn’t see a towering apartment, store, or café. Instead, she saw an empty street with a beautiful three-plank road. Few cars passed, and the distance from one house to another was quite far. The area looked like a wealthy people’s house complex.

"This is a scam. How could someone rent a big house in this place for only $400 per month?" Abigail muttered as she continued walking, following the directions on her Gmap.

However, the closer she got to the destination address, the more suspicious she became. Hurriedly, she texted Caleb to convince herself he hadn’t sent her the wrong address.

"Mr. Caleb, are you sure you sent the right address?" After sending the text, she looked around again. Finally, she stopped when the Gmap indicated she had arrived at her destination.

Her phone buzzed, and she read another text from Caleb, "No, that’s the right address."

Once again, reading Caleb’s text, she worried this might be a scam. But then she remembered that she had been looking for a house through the number one realtor in the country—she immediately dismissed her doubt.

’They wouldn’t tarnish their reputation by scamming me, right?’ she wondered.

Before Abigail could reply to Caleb’s text, an incoming call from Caleb stunned her. She picked up right away.

"What happened, Ms. Snow? You don’t want to rent the house now?" Caleb asked.

"No! No. Of course, I want to rent it! I worry that the homeowner might have seen my offer incorrectly; they might think I offered $4000 instead of $400. I know my offer is so low, and I have mentally prepared myself for a rejection." She rolled her eyes and smiled, hearing her own words. It would be laughable if that really happened.

Caleb chuckled upon hearing Abigail’s words. Knowing her concern, he calmly explained, "Ms. Snow, calm down. I’m sorry if there was a misunderstanding. It’s not for the whole house. You won’t get the entire house for $400; that’s wild if true! Your price is for a small room on the rooftop."

Abigail almost tripped over her own feet upon hearing Caleb’s words. No wonder the owner accepted her offer of $400. It turns out it’s only a tiny room.

After her brief conversation with Caleb ended, she double-checked the address.

She looked at her phone’s map and confirmed she had arrived, but she couldn’t see a house, just a lush tree near the location and a tall, green gate that seemed to blend in with the creeper-covered two-meter-high fence in front of her.

"Did Gmap make an error? Why does this place look empty?"

Before Abigail could call Caleb, the sound of a door opening caught her attention. She looked up to see a door beside the massive gate swing open, and a man wearing silver-framed glasses and a neat gray suit appeared.

"Miss Abigail Snow?" the man greeted her. "You are the one who wanted to rent the rooftop, right?"
