LOGINLorna's POV:I had learnt to lie to Ray with confidence, not that I loved it, but the truth would cost me a lot. I thought he wouldn't believe me as usual, but this act paid off. I've got lectures today by noon so I wasn't rushing. I was in love with Ray already, but his ability to trust was gone and being in a relationship like marriage requires that. The way he questioned everything was getting tiring. I knew I had done a lot to betray him, but I was trying to right my wrongs. Even on days that I would speak the truth, he wouldn't believe me. I recalled those times and my countenance fell. Next thing I heard was “Kiss me”. I felt a bit flustered that he even had to ask. “No” I responded childishly, almost immediately and turned my face away. “Why?” He muttered close to my ear , I still faced the closet area. “Nothing “. I shrugged and rolled my eyes. “Perhaps you should say please “. I was making a joke, trying to mess with him playfully like most c
Dave's mind was completely occupied throughout the night. His thoughts kept wondering from place to place, filled with questions like; “Why didn't he say he was working with the Mafia?, why did he hide it from me? What else do I not know about my own blood brother? So he's been coming here to pick and drop Lorna and yet he wouldn't think of his brother?” The thoughts were so much that his head started to hurt at some point and he was filled with so much anger against his brother. He felt betrayed….sidelined! To think that Lorna, his one time crush is now his brother's madam was sickening! And as he thought about it all , everything started making sense to him. No wonder Jeremy strongly advised him to leave Lorna alone and not to get involved in Ray Wyatts's business. He'd decided not to go to school the next day and didn't even know when he eventually slept off. Meanwhile, Don Juan had gotten a memo from Jeremy that Lorna didn't use the poison. The young man had keenly
The aroma of simmering stew clung to the kitchen walls as Valerie stirred the pot gently. Her hair was pinned up neatly, her lips glossed, her dress fitted like she was going on a date, just beneath the apron. The other maid servants had allowed her into the kitchen only for courtesy's sake even when most of them disliked her. She had taken the day off work, telling herself it was a perfect excuse to “surprise” him. A perfect little lunch, a glass of wine, maybe even time alone before the others returned. Her smile flickered as she imagined his face, the way it should’ve softened when he saw her waiting. She was about to add some scented herbs into the stew when the sound of heavy footsteps behind her cut through her fantasy. When she turned, her heart skipped. It wasn’t Ray.It was Don Draco. He stood at the entryway, cold eyes scanning her from head to toe. For the first time, Valerie’s confident mask cracked.“Valerie?” His voice was sharp, disbelieving. “What are you doing here…
I got home around 1pm and realised no one was home except for the maid servants and two of Draco's men, Jeremy and Frank. It was surprising that Frank was home because I had since realised since I came into this family, that he was Draco's right hand man. So it was rather odd that he didn't follow Draco to wherever he went to. “Where's Ray?” I asked him first. “Out for an emergency meeting with the City Council “. He replied subtly. I could see Jeremy side eyeing me consciously, probably quizzing me with those stares. I walked out of there at once and while I passed the kitchen, I noticed a lady wearing an apron and so focused on her cooking. Her back was facing the entry door. “Helloo” I made my presence noticeable at least. And then when she turned, I realized it was Valerie. The shock on my face! She laughed out, a mockery laughter seeing the shock on my face as my lips remained wide open. “Surprised?” She grinned wickedly. “I honestly love that shocking
“That's a bad idea” . I simply stated after being mute for a while. “You're the one looking at it that way. He'll appreciate your honesty and tactfully work on destroying the enemy here, the other Don “. She was making sense actually, but this wouldn't work on someone like a mafia heir. He would even get paranoid on realizing that I was actually involved in the hotel incident and punish me. The truth will set you free, they say , but the truth will only lead you into damnation when it concerns some people. “You don't understand, Ava. Let's say you're right concerning my feelings for Ray, what if he doesn’t feel that way? Imagine how bloody it'll get when someone you don't have a thing for reveals she has been following orders against you? Also, I'm not the only one in on this. He's using one of Draco's men as an informant. The guy, Jeremy, has been the one taking me to see Don Juan and take instructions . If he finds out I haven't done the job, he'll notify the Don. That
There was a thick silence between the both of them which however, only lasted for a few seconds. Lorna spoke first as anger boiled through her; “You know what, Ray? Don't worry about the food anymore and you can starve if you want to. I won't take this vile accusation from you. Your father killed Helen! He ordered Frank to stab her and since yesterday, you haven't confronted him. All you've done is to blame me and I've had enough of that”. She gritted, took her handbag and stormed out of the room. Her emotions were all over the place. First, it was her conscience judging her on the evil she was about to do to the man who has unconsciously won her heart. Next was anger from Ray's words. Although he was right about her wanting to eliminate him, she didn’t murder Helen and she would never want to hurt him on her own accord. She went downstairs and hastily had her breakfast, then went off to school. Evans was the one taking her today in company of the other driver.
The D-day came by so fast. I wasn't ready for this. All my efforts to escape the day I heard Draco and Ray's conversation were futile. When I passed out in the elevator, it happened to be the same time Ray was about to enter the elevator as well. He caught me before I fell on the floor and wit
"Where's the doctor and why are you here? I remember asking Lincoln to leave just now and I didn't send for you . Have you been standing here for long, Jeremy?" Draco growled, anger visibly written all over his face. He felt Jeremy was eavesdropping on him and funny enough, he hated that attitu
The atmosphere turned into something I couldn't explain. First of all, I was almost abducted by these grey headed men who still had strength to engage in mafia activities. I was so scared that I didn't realize I was firmly holding Ray's hand. He turned, looked down at my hands entwined with his,
Don Draco was never at home. He kept going for meetings, especially with the Mexican client . The man had just two months to return to Mexico with the deal sealed, and Don Draco didn't want to take chances anymore. He was so ready to battle it out with Don Juan, even if it meant killing any of hi
