Chapter One

Luisa’s POV

The best thing that ever happened to me was Chris.   I never thought I was going to have someone I love unconditionally, someone that no matter what he does, I will never be angry at him.

That person was Chris Jenkins.  

My son.

I remember when I discovered I was pregnant, it was a nightmare.  I was just eighteen and I felt like I had lost everything that mattered to me - my education.  That was everything to me then.   My mother couldn’t support me financially because we didn’t have much.  We didn’t have anything.   I was on scholarship and got most of the money I spend from my side job until I discovered I was pregnant.  

It was a one night stand and I couldn’t find the father of the baby.  The only thing I remembered was his face, voice and his smell.  It was heavenly.   

I had to leave the city to stay with my grandmother because that was the only place I could have given birth comfortably.  Two years now, I am back and ready to take control of my life.

The sound of Chris crying made me stop the clothes I was folding inside the box.  I was so lucky to have found a room apartment and a job with the help of my friend, Jenny.

I picked Chris up from the bed and started petting him.  He looked nothing like me and everything like his sperm donor.  Whenever I tried forgetting his face, looking at Chris would bring memories of him. 

“Sorry, baby.” I was moving up and down with him when my phone rang.   I picked it up and checked the caller, It was Jenny. 

“Hi, Jen,” I said still trying to keep Chris quiet.

“Where are you?” She was whispering.

“At home.  I just arrived in the city.”

Chris was quiet now, and I placed him back on the bed, tiptoeing to the window side so as not to wake him up.

“Do you realise you are supposed to be at the Sanchez mansion now?”  

“Is that today?  I totally forgot.”

“This is the best job we can get for you.  It may be a maid’s job but the pay is no joke.   So, just find a way to get here in the next thirty minutes, I will convince Miss Andreas.”

“Thanks, babe.  I am on my way.”

I picked up my phone to let my mum knows that  I was on my way to her place to drop Chris off.  It was a five minutes walk to her place.  I picked the nearest cloth which were a crop top and skinny jeans.  I brushed my hair into a ponytail and carried my bag and a sleeping Chris.

I walked to my mother as fast as I could and she was already waiting at the door.  She collected Chris from me and hugged me good luck.   I loved my mother because she was a single mother like me but she raised me with all the love she could.  I was trying to do the same thing for Chris, raising him with all the love I got. 

Sanchez's mansion was bigger than I imagined it.  Jenny told me it was big, but I wasn’t expecting that size.  It was painted in all white and there was a big fountain in the front.  The cab I took was not allowed to enter the premises, and I was forced to walk from the gate to the servants' quarters which the guard described to me.

It felt like a punishment, walking that distance but the moment I saw the building separated from the main building, I heave a sight relief.  

“Thank God,” I murmured.

Jenny was waiting for me outside in her maid uniform.  It looked sexy on her.  Anything looked sexy on Jenny.  She was the sexy one and I was the cute one. 

She pushed me inside and did not give me the chance to savour the beauty of the house.  

“You are so late.  Thankfully, I am a good worker and Miss Andreas believes in my recommendation.”

The maids were all lined up wearing the similar uniform Jenny was on - a sky blue short skirt and white shirt.  Most of them looked sexy as if they were ready to seduce someone.   

I was immediately ushered into a room and asked to change into the uniform.   The uniform hugged my body tightly.  I believed they might have used the wrong measurement, as the uniform was too small for me.  

Miss Andreas, an old-looking woman, with a kind face asked me to manage the uniform.  She would adjust it after the screening by the boss.

“What screening?” I asked Jenny, immediately I stood beside her in the line.

“The master screens the new maids for security reasons.  Sometimes reporters disguised themselves as a maid, and he is trying to avoid that.”

“People are that interested in the old man's life.”

Jenny's eyes were wide, “You did not make your research before coming here?”

“I was busy unpacking and taking care of Chris”  

“Oh…”  she whispered “You are about to face the most eligible bachelor in the city.”

I was about to reply but Miss Andreas cleared her throat and everyone’s attention drew to her.

“You must not look at the master in the face”

“Yes, ma” everyone chorused.

“You are to refer to him as master.”

“Yes, ma.”

“I will tell you the rest of the rules after the screening.”

Everyone was quiet, because of that I was fidgeting.  I did not know what to do or expect but I know that I must not lose this job.  

I heard the sound of footsteps before I heard the voice.

“Are these all of the new maids?”  The voice was deep.  It was deep and familiar that it caused goosebumps on my skin.  I was itching to see the face but I remembered Miss Andrea’s orders not to look at his face.

“Look up, all of you.”  His voice was authoritative that I could swear we all looked up instantly.   That was when I saw his face.  The older version of the face I see every day.   The face I had come to love unconditionally.

He was Chris father.
