I trailed back the path I just left with Kingston. I wasn’t supposed to be back here, but I had been doing daring things and was ready to take it up a notch. I wasn’t trying to be brave or pretending to be, but I wanted to make something clear to him, and I know I’m the only one who can pass the message loud and clear.

I was expecting some kind of security to guard the building in case of an attempted escape – and I have my perfect excuse at the tip of my tongue.

Alas! There was no one.

The door was closed firmly, and the key was attached to it. It made no sense, but barely anything makes sense these days. When I came with Kingston, there was no one at the door, but I had expected that was because Kingston was there. I thought once he left, someone would be guiding him, like Jimmy, ensuring there was no way to escape.
