Michael's POV
“You can't do without me, Elena. You will come running ba…”
I stopped the message halfway, reconsidering if I should hit the send button..
Since the dinner, I'd become even more obsessed with the messages. Whatever audacity Horace was feeding her with, I was sure would fade away soon enough. It was only a matter of time.
I knew Elena's soft spot. She could hardly deal with pressure and would always back out of a fight. And I was sure going to make this one more than she could bear.
Who did she think she was, thinking herself worthy of being chosen by Horace?
Just then, a knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. It was Ashanti.
She carried a tray of food, walking slowly like it was some marriage ceremony. But that was the least of my wonders.
Ashanti never served me. Worse still that she was pregnant now.
“Hey, baby”, she said, setting the food tray ok the side table. She lifted my head and kissed me.
“What's this?” I asked, a little annoyed that she'd interrupted my peaceful thoughts.
“Dinner. I made you that grilled chicken and rice that you like”, she said, lifting the top of the silverware. The aroma filled the room.
“Did you cook this?” I asked, genuinely puzzled.
“Well…”
She avoided my eyes, moving to the wine cabinet in our room.
“I had some help from the maid”, she said, taking out a bottle of red wine.
“Because you've been stressed lately and I wanted it to be perfect ”, she said, looking back, glasses in her hand. Soon, she was back to where I sat at the edge of the bed.
She placed the wine glasses on the top of my work table, her robe slipping off her shoulders to reveal her light, alluring lingerie.
“Maybe after dinner, we can talk and lie down and…”
The robe fell to the floor. “De-stress”, she added in a whisper, locking me between both knees on the bed. I noticed her new hairdo too, and it was obvious she had this whole thing planned. I wasn't in the mood, but I needed something to take my mind off Elena.
Her soft hands rubbed the nape of my back, and I leaned in to kiss her from neck down. Her scent was different and strongly familiar tonight, and I knew why.
“You smell just like her”, I whispered into her ear. I guess that was the wrong move.
Ashanti immediately pulled back, visibly annoyed.
“What did you say?”
“I said you smell nice”, I lied quickly. But Ashanti wasn't having it tonight.
“No. You said I smell like her. Like who? Elena?”
“Ok, ma’am. You knew and you are still questioning me? Did you use her leftover perfume or something?”
“No, babe. It's not like that…”
“Nah, nah”, she waved her hand frantically to stop me from talking.
“You're ridiculous.”
She dropped the glass and got off the bed, wringing her hand out of mine when I tried to pull her back.
“Damn! You smell like the woman. Ok? I said it. You don't usually use this perfume. Why the change?”
“You know what? You're ridiculous and pathetic because you're stuck on the godforsaken woman, and you won't move on.
“I have”
“No, you haven't! She’s moved on already. Why can't you accept it?”
“She’s my wife and she belongs to no one!”, I roared even before she finished her sentence. Ashanti looked at me in shock.
Before I knew it, tears gathered in her eyes.
“We are having a child together, Michael. I'm carrying your heir, and you say this to me?”
“Babe, come on. You know I don't mean that”
“Yes, you do!”, she screamed. “I hate you!”
She plopped on the couch and cried loudly. I immediately felt remorse.
“Babe, Shanti…”, I said, going over to where she sat.
“Don't touch me!” she shouted, but didn't bother to reject my advances
“Come on, listen”, I said, placing a hand on her arm. “I … it's complicated, you know this. We are not divorced yet. We haven't even broken our mate bond.”
“Then do it already! What are you possibly still waiting for? In less than six months, we are going to have a son, Cal.”
“I know. I know. But we still need her licence, remember? I need to get her on my side or else, sooner or later, this whole thing will blow over. It's only a matter of time.”
“Then make it quick. I'm not your side chick anymore, Cal. I'm the mother of your child, your freaking son, for God's sake. The heir to the Wilmingtons”
I smiled, bending to kiss her tummy. “I know, babe, and you know I love you. But if we are going to do this and take care of our baby, we have to bring Elena to our Beck and call. Just be patient. This whole charade will soon be over, and we will have nothing to worry about.”
“But we don't need Elena. We don't need the licence. I mean, you have money, I have money. Our parents are rich. I don't understand…”
“And I've told you it's more complicated than that. You'll know when it's all over. Trust me”, I said, raising her hand to my lips.
Ashanti looked at me long and hard. “Fine. But get this over with. And you have to promise to never mention her when we are together.”
“Fine”, I said, putting my hand up playfully. “I promise.”
I leaned in to kiss her, and she kissed back, our tongues intertwined tight and deep into each other's mouths.
We ended the night on the couch, under the covers, and in each other's arms.
But when we were together, I still thought of Elena.
I had to get her back, else my whole life was over.
Micheal’s pov.Unable to bear the pain of my wife in the arms of another man, I got to work making plans I was certain could give me results. After much investigation, I found out that Horace’s assistant had always secretly been in love with him.But never looked her way, worse now that Elena had entered the picture. So I reached out to her with a perfect plan.A buried case that happened to Elena back in college, where a rumor was spread widely that she cheated on her exams. Fake evidence was also planted by the accuser, so naturally, the school failed all her exams and was on the verge of expelling her. But, being unrelenting, she was able to find the loopholes in the scheme and managed to discover the necessary evidence needed to prove it was all a lie. This time around, the school carried out its investigations properly and determined her claims to be true. But it was sort of too late. The whole school had heard the story, so when her results were reinstated, students pointed fing
Horace’s pov.I reached for Ethan immediately, unable to digest what Monica was saying.“Elena, come on, I need words. Not silence. Can you explain yourself?” My voice grew louder, more hasty. But she said nothing. Just got, held her head, looking shocked and confused.Like she couldn’t believe someone could discover such a secret. This only made me more unsettled, so I reached for the documents on the table, flipping them open. The moment I went through the contents, my heart sank.I couldn’t believe my eyes. Monica’s words were true. Her medical school results were in front of me, where she failed all courses. No exceptions.“Oh, that’s not all, boss. Flip to the next one.” Monica spat, and in my shocked state, I complied.I flipped to the next page, and it was a report about how she paid off the school and slept with some staff members to get her results and subsequently, her license.“Hah.” I scoffed, my hands shaking as I continued to look at the documents in front of me.The nan
Elena’s pov.I was in the kitchen, lost in the oats I was stirring, that I hadn't realized when someone walked in.His scent travelled to my lungs pulling me back to reality. Then, I felt his body. Rock-hard, against mine.Following his fingers over my arm, brushing down until they reached the food, he used his middle finger to scoop a little.Against my mind's warnings, I turned to watch him as he took his finger to his mouth, licking it off slowly while holding my stare down.My mouth went dry as my gaze lingered on for a tad too long.My throat swallowed.I wanted to look away, but my body seemed to have been stuck. My eyes watched as he repeatedly sucked on his fingers in an unholy manner for what seemed like forever, never once looking away from me.I felt hot all over my body, and slight itchy sensations prickled my skin in dangerous places.I managed. Forced myself, really, to finally look away.My head was filled with so many profane thoughts, I had to force myself to stir con
Elena's POVAfter putting Ethan to bed, I had something to clarify for the upcoming surgery, so I looked around for Horace and noticed he was nowhere to be found.I went to his room, knocking, but was met with silence. So I knew there was only one other place he could be, his home office.I walked gently, as it was already late at night. When I got there, the door was slightly open, but I still knocked lightly and got no reply.Peeping my head in, I noticed he was rather engrossed in something on the desk.So I opened the door and made my way in slowly; he didn’t see me until my voice rang out.“What is that?” I said, reaching to touch the photo. He pulled it away, closing it hurriedly. But not before my eyes registered its content. It was a photo of a woman.Could it be his wife? I thought.“Oh.” Shocked, I pulled my hands back. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have touched it.”He waved me off, shaking his head. “It’s fine. What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be in bed?” He follo
Ashant pov.For days, I followed them everywhere, watching from afar as both of them followed each other. At first, I had thought they were pretending.Maybe faking the whole relationship, but now, it didn’t seem that way.He was all over her, wherever they went. But why her, why did have always manage to get the better things?Horace was here all over her, Michael was at home with me, but I knew his mind was still set on her.He told me it was for the license nonsense, but I wasn’t stupid.I saw the way he looked at her things around the house, to an extent, I had to hide them away.Hoping it’ll help him forget her, but none of it worked.Everything I ever wanted, she was getting without even trying.Even though I was an A-list actress with thousands of fans supporting me, I still did things to satisfy him.I cooked, I cleaned. I was even pregnant with his child, not none of it worked. His obsession with her grew especially since she left him. He was never like that when she was stil
Horace pov.I was in Ethan’s room, playing with him, when my mind flashed back to the event of the previous night.I walked into Ethan’s room and saw them sleeping peacefully beside each other. My heart melted as I walked closer to her.At first, I had only wanted to pull a comforter over her, but then, the scene began to wonderful.Like a complete family. So, I had to join in. I lay beside her gently and in no time fell deeply asleep, something I hadn’t been able to do easily in a long while. It was the best sleep I had had in years. The thought brought a smile to my lips, just as another thought entered my head.“So you Ethan son, look at me.”He turned to face me, still laughing from a shattered Lego he had built. When he finally settled down, I started.“So you like Elena very much, huh?”He first looked at me like I said something strange before replying.“I like Mama very much.” He mumbled, going back to building his Lego toys.“Of course, mama,” I muttered, my heart melting aga
