IRIS

Something wasn't right; I could feel it in my bones. It wasn't the clouds that were dark and stormy or fewer people on the road.

It wasn't even that the Alpha's men were everywhere, and I had to follow the bushes to get home to avoid their gazes: especially the fixated glare into my eyes.

It was the fact that Father wasn't home, and it was evening already. We were supposed to be training, but he was an hour late because it was six.

I came out of the house following the main road path this time. I was looking at the flowers in bloom. It was such a beautiful place; Silver mystic park. It held unique features like the silver lake that gave the pack its name. The lake also separated the pack from the vampire clan.

The vampire clan, the Silver mystic pack's hated enemy, excluding the Blood canine pack. It is a famous story that the last wolf who came in contact with one, our ancestor Alpha Onemaus died in the worst way possible by a vampire's hand.

My pupils had different colors—each to their hue, one blue and the other Amber with thin black rims. My silver hair made it even more apparent to every werewolf in the Silver mystic pack.

Kali and I were seventeen, and Ximena was eighteen. Though only Ximena, the eldest, found her mate.

"I hear everything you say," I notified them and reminded myself they were the Beta's daughters, so I refrained from pulling out their hair.

"So?" Kali mocked "what will you do? Infect us with your curse?"

They both laughed.

I rolled my eyes at them. Too bad for them to start with me, who had a tongue as sharp as a knife "being different doesn't make you cursed. But being stupid does."

Their laughter stopped, and in place it was anger. Kali looked extraordinarily furious at me. "How dare you, you low life!"

They were Beta's daughters, and my dad was a warrior in the pack. The rank Gap was so wide for me to even stand before them.

I continued, "And Ximena, I won't be so happy if I were you that I found a mate in Gamma's son. Even his last mate rejected him for being an abusive bastard."

She gasped. Her eyes flashed, and I thought she would bring out her wolf. But for a while, they stayed still, and I knew they were mind-linking. That was another ability I was without.

Soon they were both laughing so loud. I bet the joke wasn't all that fun with how they forced it, as their life depended on it.

Kali walked towards me, her face close to mine; she muttered, "you're wolfless, cursed, and without a mate; your dad is only with you because he feels sorry for you. Dear Iris, if I were you, I'd stab myself to death or run into the vampires.''

My face tightened; my dad was my weakness. His being mentioned broke me to bits, and they knew it. My father was the only one who was there for me. For some reason, I didn't have a mother, and there was no explanation. Some people said I was picked.

"Now, if you don't mind," Kali continued, "the Alpha wants the most important people at the pack house. When I say, important people. I mean Wolfs."

They both laughed again and left me standing, chattering as they walked.

It was humiliating walking into this type of shame every day, but what could I do? If there were ever a fight, it would be me being punished. I never did any right in the pack's sight.

At least I knew where my dad was. I retook the bushy path to avoid running into Ximena and Kali since we had the same destination. It was faster, anyway.

Soon I was closing in on the pack house. There were more people there than I thought there would be. I wondered if there was going to be an announcement.

The packed house was a beautiful place. The Alpha loved tradition, so there were more woods than irons which didn't sit well with many people except me. Nature was my thing. It pushed me higher than my extreme.

The gazes were expected, but it wasn't welcomed. They always wanted me to feel their disapproval in their glares.

Even with the long brown groggy gown I wore, I felt naked.

Hurrying my pace, I got into the park house through an entrance I didn't know quite well. I sighed in frustration. Anything to get away from those pesky werewolves., Why does everyone want my neck anyway?

I strolled, taking in the house, beautiful with its primary colors, milk and blue. If Luna weren't a lunatic and hated me, this would have been paradise.

The pack house was empty. Maybe there were in the meeting room, I thought, hoping to the goddess it wasn't another war. I didn't think Dad could handle it.

Curious, I walked to the door, wanting to pinpoint the voice so severely that I placed my ears on it.
