22. Suspicions
I dismissed the weird thoughts circling my mind and asked him to come in. He threw his hat on my bed and turned to face me.
“Aiv.” he said gently, grabbing both my shoulders with his huge hands. He took a deep breath in and cleared his throat.
“Look, whatever it is we’re dealing with right now. I promise I’ll never break our promise. I came here to assure you that. Alright? We’ll tell you everything when we’re ready. I don’t think you’ll be able to handle it in the current situation. So, please trust us for the time being, Aiv.” he clarified looking through my eyes. He looked genuine. His eyes looked so innocent. His emerald eyes shone in the sunlight coming from the curtains, they almost looked unbelievable. Everything about him seemed so perfect!

And finally, we reached our destination. The moment I got out of the jeep, a strong sour smell hit my nose, and I almost threw up. But, a soft fresh material covered my nose and I stared back at my mother’s worried eyes. I smiled, a warm cheeky smile, trying to show her I was thankful. Two tall and lean ladies popped their heads out of a door right beside what looked like a storeroom and I quickly recognized them as our childhood neighbours.I quickly greeted my relatives and headed towards my so-called room for a week. All I could think of on my way up the stairs was taking a long warm shower. I tugged the heavy door open by its old iron handle and Bam! The same old dusty smell welcomed me. With that morning thought, I jumped up from my bed, brushed my teeth, “tried” bathing happily, quickly dressed up, and sang my way to the kitchen. The light of dawn seeped into my room making me frown in my sleep.“Close the damn curtain, Nick. I can’t sleep! The sun rays are troubling me!”“Nick!! What are you doing? It was getting chilly since the sun had disappeared behind the hills and it was soon dusk. I could hear the rustling of bushes here and there.
