Winston

“Winston, who is this girl?”

My mother’s questioning gaze met mine.

“She’s just an ordinary girl, Mother. You don’t need to get alarmed. She is harmless.” I said in a baritone.

She walked up to me, her sharp eyes trying to find edge in my words.

“She’s just an ordinary girl. I heard from Logan that you killed fifteen alphas in the werewolf territory for this girl. Why is your answer contradicting with your actions, Winston?” She chuckled.

“She’s a leverage that I can use over her father, Alpha Gavin Cullen, the bastard must pay for his sins.” I said with anger pulsating through my veins.

Her face turned dark on the mention of Alpha Gavin Cullen.

“You brought his blood on our land? How could you be so senseless, Winston?” She growled at me. Her body trembling with rage.

“Mother, Averine is half-human, an illegitimate child he had with a human so she isn’t a threat but we’re a death nestle for her.” I tried to reason with my mother.

“Don’t forget that he was the main conspirator when those monsters killed your father. They killed a lycan because that sly Gavin Cullen tricked your father who trusted his werewolf friend. We were deceived and you think his blood is harmless.”

My mother’s pain resurfaced and I also felt the same bitterness in my heart. The glass in my hand broke into shards as anger floated through my body cells.

“Averine is just a pawn, Mother. I’ll make sure that she won’t be a threat for anyone and I want you to be patient. I know what I am doing, Mother.” I tried to calm her down.

She looked out of the window.

“Explain me how you’re going to use her against Gavin. He doesn’t care for anyone except for his greed and thrust for power.” She asked me.

“I’ll marry her in two days, on the night of the lunar eclipse, a forbidden day for a werewolf to mate.”

Her face snapped in my direction with rage and shock swirling in her eyes.

“Winston! Do you even hear yourself?”

“Yes, Mother. I know what I am doing. Even if Averine is his illegitimate daughter. She’s still his daughter as people know and he loves his reputation. Just imagine how he’ll feel when he’ll learn that his daughter married a lycan.” I smirked.

Her brows twitched but she still didn’t look convinced.

“What it will change? She will become your wife, a runt with no powers. You want to make her your luna. What about Veronica? She is your girlfriend and she’s a high rank wolf, she is the only girl in our pack who is worthy of becoming your luna.”

The mention of Veronica made me stiffen.

“We were never in a serious relationship, Mother and my pack and my revenge are more important for me than any other thing.” I said nonchalantly.

“Marriage isn’t just anything, Winston. If you really want to humiliate Gavin, keeping his daughter as a slave here is enough and it’ll be the right place for her, serving us and paying for her father’s sins.” Mother said, her words dipped in venom.

I didn’t know why but my wolf Kade became enraged.

“We don’t treat female captives with such brutality, Mother. Father made this rule and I don’t think there’s a need to treat her in that way. You know the unmated wolves, they’ll do horrible things to her.” I gave her a reason.

“So, let her rot. She isn’t our problem and I won’t allow you to marry her.” She said with dark eyes.

“I am the alpha, Mother. I don’t need anyone’s permission.” I said in my alpha tone and it made her bow her head because a lycan alpha’s anger was hundred times more fatal than werewolves.

“She bears my mark, Mother.” I told her and her eyes widened again.

“Explain this to Veronica yourself. The poor soul, she has been dreaming to be your luna ever since you both started dating each other.”

My mother clearly looked displeased by my decision because she always pictured Veronica as my bride.

“We’re not fated mates so it’s baseless for her to think that I am bound to marry her. I can choose anyone as my bride, Mother.” I said.

“I won’t ask you again why there’s the need to give that runt the title of your luna, Winston. You are the alpha whom everyone respects and fears. I don’t doubt your abilities but do not expect me to accept her.” She said in a flat tone.

“She’s just a temporary pawn, Mother. She won’t be here as soon as I destroy her father. You have to be patient.” I said quietly.

I hated such clashes with my mother. I had seen her dealing with her personal grief and acted strong for me and the pack. I respected her as a worthy luna but my ways to work were different from hers and I hated being controlled.

“And one more thing,” I added when I saw her leaving my office and she gave me same irritated look.

“Don’t even think of hurting her, Mother.” I said.

“You don’t tell me what I need to do, Winston. You must be the alpha but I am still your mother and I am not bound to follow you blindly. Just keep her out of my sight.” She retorted before storming out.

I sighed and rubbed my temples.

It was more complicated than I thought. My mind was a complete mess. Whenever I thought about using Averine as a pawn to seek my revenge, my wolf Kade disagreed with me.

Why was he so protective of the girl who was supposed to be a one-night stand? Why he killed those filthy men when he witnessed how desperate they were to have her?

I had been with many women but why I couldn’t erase the image of her moaning my name softly and how her delicate body trembled under me?

Why I had the urge to taste her again?
