CHAPTER 25: INVITE

REAH'S POV 

"Hey, Kate!" Fryster waved at the lady. 

I looked at her and formed a smile, I had no idea who any of them were but I knew they were employees of the company and looking at them, I felt like they were all humans. 

The men sat beside Fryster while the ladies sat around me, all of them were staring at me with curiosity in their eyes. It was obvious they wanted to know my identity. 

Noticing their gazes, Fryster dropped his spoon and chuckled "This is Reah Milla. The new Secretary, she resumed today," He explained. 

"Really? You are the new Secretary?" Kate asked excitedly and I nodded my head. "Are you human?" She asked softly. 

"I am," I replied and her eyes shone. 

"Then, how come you are so beautiful? Your beauty seems unreal..." She pointed out, looking at me incredulously. 

I laughed inwardly. It wasn't my first time hearing that. Many humans had asked me in the past if I were human and many werewolves already asked me if I used something to cover my scent. 

"I'm indeed human," I replied and continued eating my food. 

They all seemed to have something to say but I wasn't really in the mood to join in the conversation as my mind was in what happened in Alpha Xavier's office earlier. I misunderstood the situation and even got angry with him when he was supposed to be the one angry at me. 

I didn't even bother about Jessie, she deserved every word I said to her and I wouldn't take that back. She wasn't only rude, she was arrogant and she even liked my man!

Fryster seemed quiet too, while others were talking and laughing, he was just eating patiently and to my surprise, no one seemed to find it weird. 

After a while, he stood up and looked toward me "Are you done?" He asked. 

"Yes, I am," I replied and before I could ask why he asked, he dragged my empty tray and took it away with him. 

I watched him leave with pursed lips, wondering why he was so nice when he worked under someone as beastly as Alpha Xavier. 

"I'm surprised to see Fryster talking so excitedly to you earlier. Are you guys acquaintances?" I heard Kate's Iow whisper in my ears and I turned around to look at her. 

"What do you mean?" I asked, feeling confused. 

"You don't know? Fryster doesn't talk to people. He's always very quiet and he's called the second coldest man in this company. Almost everyone is scared of him in this company," Kate explained. 

I couldn't believe my ears. If anyone were to ask me to talk about Fryster's personality, I would add that he was cheerful and liked to talk a lot. Hearing that he was usually cold and hated to talk surprised me a lot. Once again, I wondered why he was so nice to me and I couldn't help but think maybe he already knew I was married to Alpha Xavier. 

I just smiled at Kate and looked away, not wanting to think much about that at the moment. It wasn't new for someone to be nicer to a particular person than others and it wasn't a big deal either. 

Even Gabriel does that all the time. He was always nicer to me even when Joyce had other friends and most times, when Joyce asked for something, and he knew we both needed it, he would get mine first before he got hers. 

Soon, Fryster returned and sat in front of me. He brought out his phone and started pressing it, he probably thought I wanted to stay longer with others which was very wrong but it would be wrong to leave them so early too. 

Their meals were soon delivered and they started eating. "Yes, tonight is the Team dinner. As a new employee, you need to join us. Will you come?" Kate asked, staring at me. 

"Team Dinner?" I've heard about it many times in the past and Joyce used to tell me about it too as they usually do it in their company. 

"Yes, It's tonight. It's just five of us with you. Maybe..." She looked at Fryster as if she wanted to invite him but she shook her head and focused on me again.

I raised my eyes to look at Fryster, who was staring back at me and he gently nodded. "I will come with Reah," He suddenly said and my eyes widened but I didn't say anything. 

I wasn't planning to go before and was already thinking of how to turn them down but Fryster already agreed on my behalf and I knew he must have his reasons. 

Soon, we stood up and decided to leave as the lunch period was finally over. "You must be wondering why I accepted the invite without your permission, right?" Fryster asked the moment we returned to my office and I nodded. 

Honestly, I would have been annoyed if it was someone else that did that to me but I knew Fryster wouldn't do it without a reason. 

"Team dinner is something they do here every few weeks and every new employee in the company would join them. If you don't go, You will be talked about and things might be that nice for you here. Alpha Xavier always talked about unity and most of them here stick together like glue. Being their enemy could be tiring," He explained and I understood. 

I smiled in understanding and sat down "I have to go then. What time is it?"

"It's around 7 at night. We should leave as early as 9 though. Most of them that will be there tonight are married with kids so they won't stay out for too long," He explained. 

"Alright then," I returned home around 11 last night which was why Alpha Xavier was angry, I was certain he wouldn't be so angry if I returned around 9 tonight. 

A few hours later...

Alpha Xavier came out of his office and Fryster entered. Seeing that he seemed to be ready to go home, I packed my things too and rushed after him "I'm going for a team dinner," I told him. 

He stopped in his tracks and looked at me "Okay," He muttered after a few seconds and continued walking. "I will send my Beta to pick you up later," His voice resounded as he walked away. 

I let out a deep breath and a small smile formed on my lips. I had initially thought he wouldn't let me go but it seemed he wasn't that cruel. 

"Let's go," I heard Fryster's voice behind me and I nodded. 

Together, we left the office and made our way to the car park. Fryster already offered to give me a lift to the venue and knowing that I had no one else to take it, I agreed. 

We got to the venue and he led me inside. Surprisingly, others were already there and when I counted, they were about 10 including Fryster and I. It felt a bit uncomfortable but when I saw the bright smile on their faces, I couldn't help but free myself and started enjoying the night with them. 

They all introduced their names and we drank to our heart content. Perceiving the great smell of the drinks, I couldn't stop myself from drinking and when the game started, my laughter was like the chirping of the morning birds. 

The people were funny and all of them were down to earth. The only quiet and distant person among us was Fryster but no one paid mind to him, it was like he wasn't even there. 

"You are drunk, Reah," I heard Fryster say before I suddenly felt a sharp pain from my belly and I hiccups. 

Frsyter turned to four in my eyes, his handsome face turned blurry and he seemed to be moving horizontally. I tried to catch him only to stagger forward and there came another bolt of pain from my belly. I yelped in pain and I felt someone grabbed my hand. 

Looking up, I saw someone that looked so much like Alpha Xavier but before I could look at him properly, I grabbed my belly and groaned in pain again. After that, my vision turned darker and soon, all I could see was darkness!
