Chapter 31"Wow!" Caitlyn breathe out as she walked into Martin's home after he did. "It's so beautiful!" She complimented, her eyes roaming around. "...and huge!" She added. Martin couldn't help but smile. "C'mon, let's go to the kitchen. Help me with the bags," He said and began walking away, carrying four bags- two in each hand. Caitlyn hurriedly picked up the three bags she brought in and followed him, her eyes still wandering about. A heavy breath escaped her throat as they entered the kitchen. "Do you live here alone?" She blurted out, unable to keep the question in. The house looked too big for one person. "Well, not really. My gatekeeper and I share the building," He answered, placing the bags on the large table in the middle. "How?" Caitlyn muttered before trailing off. She thought the house was too big for just him. "What do you mean how?" Martin asked with a raised brow. He started bringing out the items in the bags one after the other, while Caitlyn still stood with
Chapter 32"Good morning, sir," Caitlyn stood up and greeted as lawyer Bernard walked into her office. "Get ready. There's somewhere we need to be in two minutes," He told her and turned to walk out immediately, ignoring her greeting. She knew something was amiss. Perhaps, a serious case to be handled by them. She couldn't point it out, but she knew already that the day would be a busy one. She hurriedly checked her bag to see if every necessary item was in it. After confirming, she picked up her phone from the desk, hung her bag over her shoulder, and quickly walked out of her office. She met her boss standing beside his office and they both walked out of the building together."Take us to the Greys," He told his driver when they were in the car. Caitlyn tilted her head to face him. "The Greys? Why are we going there, sir?"They had handled a case for that family in the previous year and Caitlyn regretted it. They were a powerful family with so many enemies who were prepared to sh
It was some minutes past 6pm. Caitlyn Hugh was dragging her tired feet back home after a long day at work. As she walked along the lonely road, she looked back at intervals, hoping for a cab to appear. Although she was very much aware that cabs do not ply that road, Caitlyn prayed for a miracle. She took out her phone from the small bag she hung on her shoulder and connected her headset to the device. She was going to click play on her favourite music, but the sound of a car honking halted her. She stopped walking, and the car stopped, too. Inwardly, Caitlyn hoped that the owner of the car would offer her a ride- she was so exhausted to the point of accepting an offer without caring if the driver was a stranger or not. The owner of the car, as it appeared, opened the car's door after switching off the car's engine. She wondered why. 'If he was going to ask to give me a lift, he definitely would not switch his car's engine off.' She furrowed her brows slightly and watched closely
A man dressed in a blue and black uniform stood at the widely opened gate; Caitlyn guessed the man was his gatekeeper. Immediately the gate opened, he ignited his car's engine and moved his car with such force that Caitlyn fell to the floor, again.“I'm sorry, sir! I'm so sorry,” she watched his gatekeeper apologise while bowing. He ignored the man and simply drove in. Caitlyn rushed over to the gatekeeper. “Can you let me in, please?” she pleaded shamelessly with a smile. As he opened his mouth to give her a reply, his boss shouted, "If she steps a foot into this compound, consider yourself jobless, Mr Dalton.”She shifted her gaze to him. 'Why's he so cold?' She wondered. A hand gripped her left arm firmly. “What are you doing?” she asked the gatekeeper who had gripped her arm, wide eyed.He gave her no reply. Instead, he began pulling her away. Caitlyn struggled to free her arm, all to no avail. As soon as they were a little distance away from the gate, he stopped and released his
"Mr Martin, your mother is requesting to see you." No sooner had the secretary finished her words before a woman who looked like one in her early sixties barged into the office. She oozed of wealth and good life. One wouldn't need to spare her a second glance to know she was a wealthy woman. Her bright yellow dress swept the floor as she walked. Her makeup was heavy. Her neck, ears and fingers were adorned with jewelry that would surely cost a fortune. The small bag she held was a limited edition. It had taken nothing out of her to purchase it."Martin King?" She called in her usual authoritative voice. Her son ignored her and faced his secretary. "You can leave," He told her. She bowed slightly and hurried out of the office. She was scared of Madam Scarlett King. Everyone feared the woman.Martin's head rested on the chair he sat on. "What do you want, mother?" He asked the woman with his eyes shut while he rotated his chair."You know what I want, Martin!" The woman replied with a s
"We meet again, Mr handsome," Caitlyn smiled and stopped in front of him. Martin sighed and made to walk away. "Mr Bernard isn't in at the momen," She informed him, and he paused."Let's leave, then," Martin said to his secretary."Sir, it was really hard to secure an appointment with him. If we leave now, we won't be able to get to him till the next three or four weeks," His secretary whispered to his hearing and hers alone. A small groan escaped his throat. "You both can wait in my office. He will be here in an hour or less," Caitlyn offered."Yes." "No." Martin and his secretary answered simultaneously. His secretary gave him an apologetic look. He cleared his throat and faced Caitlyn. "We will rather wait in my car," He told her."If you do that, you wouldn't be seeing him today. I'm his right hand. The person after him. I could put in words for you to enable the meeting hold today, if you want me to. Otherwise, I'll return to my office," Caitlyn voiced out with her usual smile.
"Did you win a lottery," The surprised man asked as he walked in on Caitlyn dancing happily. "Oh, no, sir," She replied and laughed heartily. The man smiled and took a sit in her office."How about the documents I asked you to duplicate?" He asked. Caitlyn opened a drawer and brought out a green file. She closed it and stretched the file to him, "here they are sir."He took it and thanked her before opening it. He brought out the documents and went through them, carefully. Caitlyn watched him, hoping there was no mistake. She was sure there was none, as she had carefully done as he asked. The man finished and put them back into the file. "Well done, Miss Caitlyn," He praised her and she smiled."See me in my office in thirty minutes. I'll prepare a file which you would give to Mr. Martin King the next time he comes to the firm." Caitlyn nodded with a smile. She was excited that she would be seeing Martin again. As her boss left her office, she giggled while clapping her hands like a l
Chapter 3"Mr. Martin, you might have to pardon her. Please," the doctor walked into the ward with his hands folded behind him. Martin turned immediately."For what reason? I do not want my mother to get uncomfortable, most especially by this woman!" He pointed to Caitlyn, his eyes opened widely. The doctor sighed and briefly adjusted his glasses. He hesitated a bit before he spoke. "This woman just lost her mother to a horrible accident. She went into shock. We're worried about how the state of her mental health would be once she wakes up, " the doctor stared at Caitlyn pitifully."How is that any of my concern? Do you think she is more important than my mother?"Herald shifted closer to his brother and whispered into his ear, "show some pity, brother." Martin turned to him and gave him a cold glare. Herald fearfully moved away."She must leave this room, or you move my mother to a better one before I return," he declared and stormed out.Herald sighed and turned to the doctor. "Move
