ADELE’S POV

The palace was quiet, the kind of deep, heavy silence that only comes late at night when everyone else is asleep. Moonlight spilled through the half-open curtains, silver and cool across the bed. I was already in my nightgown—a thin silk slip the color of midnight, short enough that it barely skimmed the tops of my thighs. I’d chosen it on purpose earlier, telling myself it was just comfortable, but really I knew better. I was playing the same game he was.

I sat propped against the headboard, pretending to read a book I hadn’t turned a page in for twenty minutes. Lucien had been in the bathroom forever. The shower had stopped, yet the door stayed locked. I didn’t care, I told myself. Not one bit. He could stay in there until morning for all it mattered to me.

Then the door opened.

Steam rolled out first, warm and scented with his soap—something dark and spicy that always made my stomach tighten. And then he stepped into the room.

My breath stopped.

He had a towel wrapped

  • CHOSEN BY THE CURSED ALPHA KING    090. Who The Hell is This?

DAMIEN’S POV Matteo stood rigid beside me, blood still drying on his split lip from where I’d hit him. He didn’t complain. Good. I wasn’t in the mood to hear excuses.“Show me,” I said. My voice came out flat. Dead. Like someone else was speaking through my mouth.Matteo tapped a few keys. One of the larger monitors flickered. Timestamp: 2:47 p.m. Gymnasium interior. Basketball practice in full swing. There she was.My Rose.Number 7 on the blue team, curls bouncing every time she ran. She looked… happy. Focused. Alive. The way she always looked when she was doing something new, something brave. Then the rough play started. Some blonde bitch slammed into her side. Elbow to the ribs. Stepping on her foot. Another girl joining in, kneeing her thigh. My blood boiled slow at first, then hot and fast. “What the fuck is this?” I whispered, leaning closer. Matteo shifted uncomfortably. “Looks like they targeted her. We don’t know why yet.” Targeted. My mate. In a goddamn gym clas

  • CHOSEN BY THE CURSED ALPHA KING    089. You Had One Job

DAMIEN’S POV The room spun. The walls closed in. I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. Then like a switch flipping. Rage burned through the panic, white-hot and sharp. I snatched the phone off the floor, fingers shaking so bad I almost dropped it again. I hit Matteo’s number again. He answered immediately.“What the fuck do you mean you’re sorry?” I snarled into the line. “I asked you to watch my mate! I told you—eyes on her every second! What part of that did you not understand, Matteo?” His voice came through tight, careful, like he was talking to a bomb about to blow. “We don’t know how to explain it, boss. We got played.” “Played?” The word tasted like acid. “You had one job. One. Fucking. Job.” “We did, sir. We had eyes on her the whole time. But… it wasn’t her.” My blood turned to ice. “What?” A long, heavy pause. “We followed your orders. You said don’t get too close. Stay back. Blend in. So we did. We watched from a distance—two blocks, parked cars. We

  • CHOSEN BY THE CURSED ALPHA KING    088. Love Make People Stupid?

DAMIEN’S POV I slammed the bedroom door behind me so hard the frame rattled. The sound echoed down the empty palace corridor like a gunshot, but I didn’t care who heard. Let them hear. Let the whole damn kingdom know how furious I was. I paced the length of my old room—still the same dark wood, the same massive bed, the same heavy curtains that blocked out the moonlight when I needed to disappear. Nothing had changed here since I was a kid. Except me. Except everything. I dropped onto the edge of the mattress, elbows on my knees, hands fisting in my hair. Did love make a person blind? Stupid? Completely fucking insane? Because that’s what Maximus had to be. My brother—the King, the one powerful wolf had just sat there nodding while his pregnant mate suggested we let humans stroll right onto sacred ground. Let them come. Like it was a goddamn picnic. I could still see Emilia’s calm face, Maximus’s smirk, the way they looked at each other like they were sharing some priv

  • CHOSEN BY THE CURSED ALPHA KING    087. The Calm Before The Storm

LUCIEN’S POV"Is that all?" Adele asked, her voice light, almost teasing, like we'd just wrapped up a casual chat about the weather.I opened my mouth to say something—anything—to fill the heavy silence, but the words stuck. Yeah? No? I didn't know. Before I could figure it out, she tugged me down by the neck, her fingers firm in my hair, and kissed me. Soft at first, then deeper, her lips pressing against mine with that familiar heat that always set my blood on fire.I kissed her back fiercely, my hands sliding from her waist to her back, crushing her against me. God, she tasted like home—like everything I needed and didn't deserve. My wolf surged forward, wanting more, wanting to claim her all over again right there on the bed. But underneath the desire, fear gnawed at me. Real, gut-twisting fear. This calm of hers... it felt wrong. Too perfect. Like I was walking on eggshells, one wrong step away from shattering everything. What if this was the eye of the storm? What if she was ho

  • CHOSEN BY THE CURSED ALPHA KING    086. I'll Kill Her

LUCIEN’S POVThe walk back to our bedroom felt like the longest damn hallway in the palace. My hand was wrapped around Adele's, her fingers warm and steady against mine, but my mind was a whirlwind. The slap I'd walked in on—Naomi on her knees, Adele's eyes blazing with fury—should have been the highlight of my shitty day. Seeing Adele stand her ground like that, fierce and unyielding, had stirred something primal in me. My wolf approved, growling low in satisfaction. But now, with every step, the weight of that envelope in my pocket grew heavier. The DNA results. Positive. Andrea was mine. A son I never knew about, from a night I barely remembered. How the hell was I supposed to drop this on her after everything? After hoping this was all a lie.We pushed through the door, the familiar scent of our space hitting me.I let go of her hand, closing the door behind us with a soft click that echoed too loud in my head. The room felt smaller, the air thicker, like it was waiting for the

  • CHOSEN BY THE CURSED ALPHA KING    085. We Need To Talk

ADELE’S POVThe kindergarten room was alive with the kind of pure, unfiltered joy that only kids could create. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, casting golden patches on the colorful mats scattered across the floor. Toys were everywhere—blocks stacked in wobbly towers, crayons rolling under tables, and in the center of it all, a group of about a dozen little ones giggling as we played handball. It wasn't some fancy game; just a soft, bouncy ball we tossed around in a loose circle, no rules except to have fun and cheer each other on.I caught the ball from little Lia, her chubby hands barely able to grip it properly, and tossed it gently to Timmy, who beamed like he'd won a medal. "Nice catch!" I called out, my voice light and easy. These kids were my escape lately—their innocence a balm against the storm brewing in my life. Ever since Naomi dropped her bomb about Andrea being Lucien's son, I'd been walking a tightrope of emotions. Hurt, anger, fear. But here, with them, I
