Chapter 7

Everywhere was decorated with a silver-green color with a matching blue to fit it. Everyone was running around just to make things beautiful to avoid angering the king. It was the second week, and today was Kate's birthday. The throne hall was where the party was going to take place, The king was in his chamber dressing as Kate, Jaden, and her Grandfather.

Kate POV

The maid had finished dressing me up, and my brother nocks the door and come into my room, he was so surprised seeing me in a beautiful dress because I never got the chance to put on a beautiful dress before, then “he said wow you look more beautiful than ever before on this dress” and I smiled. I was wearing a green long gown with bare hands, and my shoulder up to my neck was naked, except for the necklace that was on my neck. My body was decorated with different kinds of ornaments.

Today was the day I have been waiting for, the day of my birthday, the day my mom had died, the day my father started blaming me for all his mischievousness, the day I would Know what this sudden birthday of mine means.

I was sad, I was heartbroken, I took the only picture of my mother I had, I was her replica. I didn't cry cause I don't want to cry, I promised my mother that I would surely avenge her, And I will do so.

I was still in my thought when the door to my room opened revealing my Grandmother, she walked up to me and sat beside me on the bed

" Are you feeling Nervous?"She asked me and I shook my head in a Negative way

"Don't worry, am going to be by your side, you don't have to be afraid" She said to me again

"Am not afraid Grandma, Just that I have this feeling that something bad would happen today" I said

"Nothing will happen, The memories of what happened on your last birthday are in my mind, Take it off," She said, holding my hands and smiling at me, and I smiled back

"You don't have to be worried about me Grandma, I will be fine," I said to her, trying to resist the fear I have, I was afraid and I don't know why.

The door to my room opened, Grandma and I looked at the door, and my brother entered

"Kate! Grandma, the ceremony has begun, Father said I should call you two out" Jaden said, looking straight into my eyes

"You two can go, I need to calm down before I go outside, it's my first time meeting congregations, after so many years" I replied, wearing a fake smile

"Take your time, but come down okay," My Grandmother said, and I nodded, then she left with my brother.

I faced the mirror that was in front of the mirror, I sighed heavily more than a thousand times, Truly I was nervous, I wished I had someone to cry on. My Grandma is old, My brother has his burden also, There is no one to share my sorrow with. I sighed for the last time, and tried turning to go out. When it looked to me that someone had just passed my window, I wanted to go look. On second thought, I have stayed in my room for so long, I wouldn't want to anger my dad on a day like this.

I headed to the throne hall, I stopped at the entrance of the big door.

"Calm down Kate, just be yourself" I cautioned myself to feel at ease, before looking at the guard to go on, and he opened the door

"The princess of the high court is here, Princess Kate!!!" He shouted, and I walked in. I took my step bit by bit. Everyone stood up, they were looking at me, I suppressed the Nervoursity in me, and looked up.

I walked up to my father, whose hands were stretched out for me to take, I took it and then the music began.

I didn't know I was going to dance with him, but thankfully, dancing was one of the things I did when I was always alone.

Father and I dance to the tune of the music.

A particular man was looking intensely at me. He was sitting beside my father's throne. No one ever sits around the throne, except only if you're a blood of the king. Why would he suddenly allow a stranger to sit beside his throne?

I was still wallowing in my thoughts, when the music stopped and then I heard

"Happy Birthday Daughter" My father said. I looked at him in surprise, did he just call me his daughter? He should be angry at me today, cause today was the day his wife died. Why this feeling, And then I knew something was wrong somewhere.

"Today is the princess birthday, and I have invited you all to share this day with her, though it is a mix feeling for me, The Happy birthday of my daughter, and the sad death of me beloved wife, Thank you all for honoring my invitation" Father stated

"Beside me here is the crown prince of the Peking clan, you all should know him. He honored this invitation today because of the closeness he has with my daughter Kate," Father added. I was surprised, I haven't even set my eyes on him before, why would father say I have a close relationship with him.

I watched as the young man stood up from his seat, and walked up to where father and I were, He was a tall man, and had a short hair compared to that of my brothers which is every long

"Today, as the king of the high court, I would like to give my daughter a surprising birthday gift, Which is, The acceptance of Scott to take Kate as his Wife" Father said
