Madison POV

Since Liam decides to be in a bad mood because I am here with Zach, I decided to talk to him hoping he would give me a listening ear and be gentle with me. Instead, it was something else.

 

I followed him to a bar stand to have one or two words with him. Even with the mask he has over his face, I can tell he is still frowning.

“What is it?” he asks coldly and I sighed.

“I’ve been noticing your face all through, I mean since you saw me. Even at the hospital you face was like this. Don’t you ever smile?” I ask and he scoffed

“What exactly do you want from Zach? You better leave him alone because I can assure you that you won’t want to be with him” he replied and I blinked rapidly at him.

“Oh really? Why say so?” I scoff as I fold my hands and pulled it closer to my chest.

“He is Zach Westley, Zach doesn’t do women and so I assure you that you both wouldn’t last. Being with him is also dangerous to your life. Young lady, looks like you have no idea of who we are” he continues

 

“You think I don’t?” I scoff. Liam really got the guts…

“You have just petty idea of who we are and that is what is fooling you!” he replied in a tone of finality.

I step back immediately, “Maybe you are wrong about me” I shook my head in disagreement with him.

 

“You wish, how much do you want?” he asked.

The question isn’t just dumb, annoying but disrespectful.

My eye widens at him, I bit my lower lips as I took slow steps more closely to him.

“Do you think I am chasing Zach because of his money?” I asked gritting my teeth at him.

“Why else would a doctor like you be with a dangerous mafia” he replied.

“Are you not a gold digger? You have your money so be contented with it” he replied

“F*ck you”

That word escaped my lips immediately.

“You lack sense, that is your problem” I replied and before he could say a word again, I spoke up. “You think I am chasing him huh? You should open your eyes the more so you can see the mother*ckers chasing me out there. And for Zach, he is into me so if you need to more clear, you should go ask your boss!” I replied and he takes off his mask.

 

“How dare you speak to me in such manner?” he growled.

“You started all these, I am a sweetheart but that doesn’t mean I can’t be a b!tch” I replied and Adrian walks to us.

 

His hand went over my shoulders the moment he stood beside me. “What is going on between you two?”

“I’ve been watching the both of you from afar and it seems like you are having an argument” he said and I spoke up.

“Well, talk to Liam, he is trying to get on my nerves” I exclaim lowly. Adrian turns to him with a questioning look on his face.

 

I am clearly pissed off.

 

“Liam, what is it? You know you shouldn’t be pissing her off?”

“She’s Zach woman, and she deserves respect” he continues but Liam scoffed instead.

“That has never happened before. Zach can’t have any distractions or spies. Right now, we are on a hot seat, none of us has an idea of when Greg and his men would attack. Zach is supposed to be making plans about how we’ll attack them but he is having a woman around him instead” Liam blurted out and I stared at him dismayed.

 

“Spy? You think I am a spy?” I scoffed. Adrian look around us then pulled the both of us away to another corner.

 

“Aren’t you a spy?” Liam carves his brow at him

“Never!” I retorted

 

“Liam, you should just calm down. Zach may never forgive you for speaking to his woman in such way” Adrian said sternly to him. Liam looked adamant. He rolled his eyes and kept glaring at me.

 

 

I look away to the pulpit where Zach is standing, he is standing next to an older man who I assume is his father begins speaking into the microphone.

 

“Good evening everyone. I am very happy and fortunate that you could all make your way from your various homes down here tonight. Tonight, we put aside our differences and hatred for one another for a peaceful and happy night. There are food and drinks available in surplus for everyone. Enjoy tonight, as war would continue tomorrow” he ends his short speech as hundreds of Goosebumps runs all over my skin. It boggled my mind how people do this to their fellow human, and I feel it is illegal for me to be here.

 

A five star dinner was served but I had no appetite to eat. I feel like puking, fainting and all that at the same time.

 

My entire system is refusing to adapt to my environment, I turned to Krystal and saw she was still having good time on her table, even eating. 

 

I guess our bodies are just so different from each other.

 

Adrian walks me back to the table and Zach walks to us too. “Where did you go?” he asks me but I remained mute.

“Krystal, I am leaving now” I said to her

 

She carved her brows at me then turns to Adrian, “Why? What happened?” she questioned

 

“Madison…” Zach called out as he held my hands stopping me from staggering back.

“Okay, yes she doesn’t stay in a place like this” Krystal said to him. Zach stared at my face for sometime then agreed to take me home.

 

“I’ll be coming with you then” Krystal said as she picked up her purse.

“No man, you just arrived” Zane groaned with a long face.

 

Zach sat me in his car while Adrian was in the other car behind us with Krystal.

After the long drive, the car pulled away in silence. 

 

I stepped out of the car without waiting for Zach or any of his men to get the door for me. “Madison!” he called out as he followed me behind.

 

I stopped before my door and turned back to look at him.

“What is it?”

“You’ve been quiet throughout the drive, how are you?” he asks and I scoff

 

“Is that the reason why you invited me to the ball? To allow Liam insult me? Did I ever asked you to invite me? Did I ever asked you to chase me or spend your money on me??” I half yelled in a teary tone.

 

I hate that I am remembering the way Liam spoke to me.

“Madison, what are you talking about?” he stutters and I scoff

“Oh please just quit it. You left while Liam said shits and trash about me, do I look like a gold digger to you? Why would he call me that! Look, Zach, I will not allow your men to say whatever they wish to say to me is that clear? I have a bad side too that you wouldn’t want to see” I replied as I wiped my tears

 

“Maybe he was right, you are a dangerous person and I am an innocent one. You know the difference between you and I? I save lives and you end lives. I can’t see how this will work out. It is best you stay away from me. LET ME BE ZACH WESTLEY”

 

With no other word, I turned back to my door and walk into my house slamming the door at his face.

 

Maybe if he was different, we could have made it. He is a mafia and a killer. He runs the Italian mafia for gods sake, that is nothing I can take lightly.

 

It could never work, right?
