CHLOE

I was so anxious, I wanted to be sure that David had nothing to do with it and Ethan was wrong. David was my best friend and I intended to keep it that way. David would never hurt Eli because of how much he loved him, that much I knew.

Yet, I couldn't stop being anxious. Just what if David had truly had something to hide?

Forth minutes gone, Ethan’s hand on my lap, caressing me gently. Grandma had come over to us and she gave us ginger tea to keep us from having so much anxiety. However, it didn't work for me. As much as I love tea, I didn't touch my cup.

Suddenly, Ethan’s phone rang and I jumped over to pick up the phone. I grabbed it and as expected, it was Ethan’s investigator. My heart pounded in my chest, it could power a concert.

Ethan placed the phone on a speaker so I could hear what the man had to say.

“I found out David is related to you, Mr Ethan. His father is your father’s brother.”

My eyes went wide.

“That makes us cousins?” Ethan asked and the man answered

CHLOE. It was my wedding day. Grandma made it all happen in four weeks. It was still quite early since the old man was in and out of the hospital. The day I had dreamed about for so long had finally arrived. I never thought that I would really get married again, not to the hottest bachelor in the city. No, I didn't think that. The business deal with my company and Ethan’s grossed one billion. Perhaps it was the wedding that made it so huge. It didn't matter but it was a huge success and now we have much work to do. But after the wedding. Finally, after so much pain and heartbreak , I was going to be happy. This morning, I told everyone I needed a moment alone, and I drove to the cemetery where my mother was laid to rest. It had to happen, I needed to see that woman who had taught me everything I knew until this moment. My dress wasn’t on yet, it was just a simple white blouse and jeans, but I held my wedding veil in my hand, folded neatly like something sacred. I wanted my mo

The air was thick with apprehension as the black SUV pulled up in front of a secluded warehouse. David sat inside, bruised and silent, his wrists tied. Beside him, Ethan kept a steady gaze out the window, while Chloe clutched her hands tightly in her lap, her heart racing with a mixture of anxiety. Behind them, a convoy of police vehicles rolled in, their sirens off to avoid suspicion. Even their cars were scattered all over the street while they filled the warehouse. Finally William and his father thought that David had gotten the heirloom and it was time to celebrate. “Dad, what are you going to do with your first profit share?” William asked excitedly. He was so happy. When they sighed David, they ran to him. “Brother, what happened to your face?”William asked, stalking closer. But before David could respond, the officers moved in. “You are all under arrest for Murder, kidnapping, attempted murder, conspiracy, and fraud,” the lead officer announced firmly, guns pointed to th

ETHAN. I hadn’t slept properly in two days. The moment Eli was taken, my entire world tilted. I kept hearing his little laugh in my ears, seeing his small fingers wrapped around mine. The silence around the house was louder than any scream I had ever heard. A missing child was quite depressing especially when you had to do something difficult to have them back. That morning, I sat at the edge of my bed, staring blankly at the box I had hidden for years. The heirloom. The symbol of power in our family. Whoever possessed it, possessed the company. Grandpa had warned me, practically begged me never to give it up under any circumstance. Not even for love. Not even for family. Because the heirloom was worth more than the entire company itself. But now my son… my only child… was somewhere I couldn’t see. Held by people who had already proven they were capable of anything. They killed my mother in cold blood and made it look like suicide. Why wouldn’t they do the same to Eli? They could k

CHLOE. Ethan kept one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting gently on my knee, his way of reassuring me, I guess. We touched each other every now and then. Honestly, it was so sweet, to have someone like Ethan. He loved me, and he showed it everytime. When we finally pulled up in front of the house, I reached for the door handle, but Ethan spoke softly before I could step out. “Chloe,” he said, turning to face me. “Thank you… for working with our company. I really hope this doesn’t change even after we get married.” The thought of getting married to him made me feel like a child. I was going to get married to one of the hottest bachelor in all of the city. Okay, dream life! His words were careful, almost hesitant, like he wasn’t sure how I would respond. He probably felt like I wouldn't like the idea of a marriage since we hadn't spoken much about it. I smiled, excitement bubbling within me. The way he spoke with cautiousness, like he didn't want to hurt me in anyway.

CHLOE. I was seated in the corner of my office, eyes fixed on the large screen in front of me, my fingers flying across the keyboard as I made final adjustments to the project presentation I had been working on for weeks. It wasn’t just any project it was my first major contribution to Ethan’s company, and I was determined to make it count. It was also my comeback. It hadn't been easy trying to bounce back. Ethan’s library had really been help and the massage chair, god, I would need a full blown massage once I am done with this shit. Ethan had really been helpful. He had told me that my idea was better than Clara’s.He had looked at me that day when I was working in his library again. He looked so calm, certain, sure and he said it without blinking: “This is far more innovative than what Clara pitched.”But even now, I wasn’t sure if he meant it or if he was simply trying to lift my spirits or he was just doing his boyfriend’s duty. Either way, it didn’t matter. I wanted this proj
