Hudson’s POV

I sat quietly, my head down, my hands clenched tightly. I felt choked and I could hear the sound of the clock ticking on the wall. My chest burned, and my throat felt like it was closing up as I listened to the conversation saying nothing because I couldn’t.

My father stood near the window, his arms crossed, his back to me. He hadn’t looked at me since the meeting started. Sam paced back and forth across the room, his face twisted in anger and pain.

“I found out where the poison came from” Sam said with his voice rising. “The crown prince was poisoned but the family that hasn’t existed for five centuries”

I swallowed hard and looked up. “The Hank family,” my father said.

Sam looked up from his notebook and turned to faced him. “Yes. The Hank family. The poison used on Michael only the Hanks ever used it. They were wiped out five centuries ago or so we thought and they changed their name to Drew before they finally disappeared.”
