You did this to yourself

He doesn't say a word, but the arena goes silent like a graveyard.

He shifts his gaze to where the other Alphas are seated and the leader of the Alphas gives him a small nod. To which he sighs.

“Let's get this over with, little wolf” he says, and I swear the class exhaled.

He walks to the center of the ring.

I look again to the Leader of the Alpha cadets; he resembles the man that may or may not kill me today. Fingers crossed.

Twins, handsome twins, but the leader doesn't sport the magic eyes like his brother. Magic eyes because I have no other words for them, they are entrancing, tempting and different colors; One the color of the earth and the other of the heavens.

My gaze shifts to Talia and her stupid smirk, and she looks right at me. I already know what she's thinking: “You did this to yourself”. I did, and I am going to survive this, like everything else that came before.

I move to the center as well, stopping a few feet outside his reach just to be safe.

“Well class” the instructor bellows, “we have a treat for you today before training officially begins tomorrow. Today you'll learn what happens when an omega fights an Alpha.”

And the crowd goes wild, so eager are they to see me ripped apart for my insolence.

“I almost pity her”, “This is going to be good”, “I wonder how long she'll last”, “two seconds tops”, “come on dude at least give her the benefit of a doubt”, “how about a bet”, “oh count me in”, “Start already, I want to see what her insides look like”

What a bunch. But that's the reality of being an omega, meat shields in times of war and play things in times of peace.

“You can do it!”

The words cut through the noise like a blade through flesh, and I am forced to find its source. It's a girl seated amongst the betas. What's with me today and catching the attention of crazy people.

“Here are the rules” the instructor starts, “first to concede or die, losses”

I really was holding out hope he wouldn't allow deaths on the first day.

“Run, Millie” my brothers again.

I'm sorry but not today.

I focus my sight– his aura is immense, even for an Alpha but oddly enough it's still; deathly still. I knew he wouldn't consider this a fight, but he doesn't consider this to be anything at all, not even a chore.

He's looking right at me, but I doubt he even sees me.

Perfect.

Underestimate me.

I drop low–knees bent, shifting my weight to the balls of my feet. My heels are barely above the ground. My fingers flex as my nail turns to claws and my breath slows as I block out the noise of the crowd and focus on the rhythm of heartbeats. Mine and his, which are oddly in sync, but I shove my curiosity away.

He tilts his head, confused or amused by my stance.

I focus my senses; hearing, touch and sight as I take in the man before me. He's relaxed but has no openings at all.

I guess I just have to make one.

If there's one thing I'm confident in; it's my speed. Ever since I was a child racing against my brothers through the forest to now when I race alone through the meadows.

Strength is fine, but it's not what I seek. For with lightning speed, I ensure my attacks feel like thunder; sudden and unpredictable.

Speed is freedom.

I start slow, shifting side to side as his beautiful eyes follow, and then I vanish. Or at least that is how it would seem to him.

I circle him.

Readying my claws then I lunge at his back.

He reacts: swinging his arm at me. Fast for his size, but I'm already low, and I slash his thigh.

A warning. I just couldn't help it. Not when he's looking at me like that, like her, like I don't matter.

I pause beyond his reach. Visible again to the crowd and they gasp and murmur.

Many are surprised they couldn't follow my movements, others question how an omega can move this fast.

Practice, that's how. Years of it.

The scouts favor speed and stealth above strength and now their members get to see mine on full display.

Just what I needed. Now I just need to survive this.

“Tear her throat out!” one wolf snarls.

“Make her beg,” says another.

Focus. I shut out the crowd.

The mark on his thigh is gone already–healed. Definitely an Alpha, I'll have to make the next one deeper. Although I start to wonder why he has a scar. What could cause something he couldn't heal, what a monster that must have been.

I fall into my stance but this time I go lower. He will be expecting me to circle him again–but I'm nothing if not unpredictable.

I lunge at him.

He starts forward–slow not rushed, a mountain of a man. He aims to pull me into his reach before I'm ready–before I can react.

My momentum is his ally, or so he thinks.

At the last second, I drive my palm into the ground, twisting my weight.

The force launches me sideways, my boots skimming the dirt as his arm slices through the space where my head just was.

Then I'm circling again–low and fast, seeking an opening or planning a way to make one.

Then I see it.

He glances to the crowd, to his brother. They share a look and I see a ripple in his aura.

I go in, lighting fast and quiet like a ghost.

And then I'm stuck.

Plucked from the air like an afterthought.

“You did well, little wolf” he says with a smile as his fingers turn to claws in my neck.

Shit.

  • Crowns and Claws: The Omega's Revenge   Chapter 57: Too many Princes

I leave my uncle's home annoyed; not at my uncle but at Caspian, who despite my best efforts I'm unable to keep out of my mind.“Come to me” he says, but I have no intention of doing that.“This is perfect” I whisper to myself. With the end of the trials fast approaching, I'll need to sever any ties to him. Better to start now. Right?“Little wolf” he calls, and I shove the urge to answer, deep down where it won't affect me.Your enemies are mine. That's what he said in the last trial, and as curious as I am to know why he would say such a thing, I'd rather stay away from princes at the moment.“Come to me” he calls. He's persistent, I'll give him that.Maybe he could be useful in getting Lucien off my back or even help me when I escape this place.Maybes are a dangerous thing, and I'm proven right as my shoulder bumps another as I find my way through the crowded market.“Apologies,” I say quickly, not bothering to check the person's face and continue on my way.“Well this is a surpr

  • Crowns and Claws: The Omega's Revenge   Chapter 56: Atonement

“You knew…” I whisper, “you knew and yet you brought me to the one place Blessed are unwelcome and imprisoned, never to be heard from again.” “So, you've awakened your abilities,” he hums, brushing his beard then his eyes widens, “now I understand why Talia lost. You tempered her.” I gave a slight nod, as I slowly walk backwards. “Don't worry Amelia, I would never lay hands on a Blessed, especially one that Stella brought into this world.” He never did, Talia and Dalia already had physical abuse covered. He just let them. “Then why would you bring me here?” I ask. “I had nowhere else to go,” he sighs, “and I couldn't abandon my family here, nor could I leave you at another pack. It wouldn't have taken them long to realise what you are and from there, it's just a matter of time before Malric got word of you”. “So you chose to bring me closer to him?” I snarl, “how does that make sense?” “I swore to your brother that I'd protect you and this pack, despite its threats, was the bes

  • Crowns and Claws: The Omega's Revenge   Chapter 55: Darrow Wren

Dalia always made an effort to exude confidence in all she did, even in her cruelty. But when it came to my Uncle—her husband, she shriveled, she would go quiet and would never meet his gaze. She became a shadow of herself in his presence. And I've never understood why. They were a fated pair, they should bring out the best in each other, just like every fated mate I've seen in my pack, just like my parents and yet Dalia looks utterly miserable.“Stella, was five times the woman you are and yet here you are speaking bad about her instead of teaching your daughter how to behave.” He yells, as he walks past me.Dalia winces like every word slapped her. She's not meeting his gaze this time either, looking at the floor.“I'm sorry” she murmurs, her voice—shy of a whisper.“You're sorry?” He roars, slamming his fist into the wall, “she begged him. My daughter begged him for his affection, and you're sorry? Do you think a Luna would ever beg for something like that?”“No… You're right, I fa

  • Crowns and Claws: The Omega's Revenge   Chapter 54: Confrontation

My goddess said she couldn't see the massacre of my people. And those words have haunted me. What could hide from a god? A Hollow man. She couldn't see her Blessed either. So how is the Alpha king hiding them from her? Throne, the only other free Blessed, and he's out there, waiting for me. What can the two of us do against such forces? These questions burn in my mind as I walk through town. Someone has cracked the way to hide from the gods and both humans and werewolves know how to do it. And war is brewing. It terrifies me to think of the things they plan to do away from the watchful eyes of the divine. But I'm more terrified of what I'm about to do. I stop, just a few feet away from the door of my Uncle's home, hesitating to go any closer. “They can't do anything to me” I whisper. Trying to reassure myself that Dalia won't just kill me on sight. Unlike her daughter, Dalia's abuse was subtle, she either buried me in chores to the point my bone ached constantly, or she slap

  • Crowns and Claws: The Omega's Revenge   Chapter 53: Daughter of the Moon

I find myself in a snowy forest. I see a familiar sight, the white tips of the towering mountains just beyond the forest. This is home. The forest that surrounded my pack. I knew if I walked a couple miles north I'd come upon our pack town, but I don't know if it'll be as it was before that night.I can feel the cold upon my skin and wind on my face, but I know this isn't real.A dream but I am aware.I look around and all I see is snow and leafless trees as far as the eye can see. Then I blink and she appears.Fifteen feet from me is a pale woman with long white hair and covered in white garments. She has a glow about her, eerie but welcoming, familiar all at the same time.Like I've seen her before. That glow. She is majestic. She smiles. And I blink. Then she's right in front of me.She's so tall, so tall that I'm barely reaching her waist, and I'm five-foot-eight.She looks down on me with her warm smile, and she moves her hand through my hair. Her eyes—her iris are silver and her

Amelia's POV:Talia's team couldn't pass the second trial and were eliminated from the Moonborn trials. I saw her when we came down from the carriages. She looked confused. Maybe she was still trying to understand what had happened; that I beat her.I saw Caspian and Lucien walk past her. She made a gesture, almost like she wanted to say something to her so-called fiance but he just kept walking. But Lucien didn't even give her the dignity of a glance, he simply walked past like she wasn't even there. She had fallen beneath his notice. He, who she set as a goal in life. Ever since we were little, all her plans, all her schemes were, so she could stand at his side when he became the next Alpha king.I've never understood her obsession with being Luna. Was it love? Was she capable of something like that? She turned to me and glared, no doubt thinking of some way to hurt me for everything.I didn't really care. Something else had gotten my attention.Magic eyes.My eyes met Caspian's for
