Lisa was supposed to be the pride of her pack—the perfect heir, the next great alpha. But fate had other plans. "A defective wolf," they called her. "A disgrace." Born with a wolf that refused to shift, Lisa lived under the shadow of her father’s disappointment and her pack’s whispers. But nothing could have prepared her for the betrayal that led to her capture. Now, locked in a dungeon, she’s nothing more than a pawn in Alpha Cole’s twisted game. "You have been chosen as the breeder," the prisoner in the next cell murmurs. "None survived before you." Lisa refuses to accept this fate. She’d rather die than be used. But when the prisoner—Derek, a powerful fallen alpha—offers her a dangerous escape plan, she’s forced to make a choice. "Trust me," Derek says, his red eyes glowing in the dark. "Or stay and find out what happens when they come for you." Lisa doesn’t trust alphas. But if she wants to live, she might have no other choice.

“Hasten up, Lisa, Time is not on our side!” My father’s voice echoed through the hallway, sending chills down my spine as I dressed up. Today is the day, I’ve been waiting for, my mating ceremony day and I would not allow my dad's hasty spirit and thick voice distract me from making up as I desired. "I'm coming dad, just a minute." At least, I felt this response should cool him down abit. My dad is the beta leader of my pack, the Umbra pack. Ever since I was a kid, after my mum's tragic death, I was set to be the bride of another pack when I turned eighteen, and my 18th birthday was four days ago. My fiancee to be is the future leader of his pack, a very strong alpha. Alpha Cole of the Redmoon pack. “Lizzy?” I heard my dad's thick voice call out from behind me as I turned to face him. I tried to hide my panic, but my face betrayed me. “I thought you said just a minute? But it's over a minute now and you are still not ready.” He said as he carefully observed my make up. "Dad! It isn't right to enter a lady's room without knocking." I replied teasingly. "And it isn't right to be late to events, especially an event as glorious as this one." He taunted back. I could only smile and nod to his words, "Alright dad, I'll be done in two minutes, and I mean it this time." "No dear, I'm not blind, I can see you're done, you're just not ready to leave. So come with me now." His tone was serious now. Without another word, I followed him out of the house, and into the car. We drove until we arrived at the venue. Guards greeting us as we passed. My eyes widened in surprise when I saw the large auditorium and the large crowd waiting for us inside. My heart skipped a beat the minute I laid eyes on the man I'm supposed to mate with. Only two of them stood, Cole and his dad, Chief Ned. I couldn’t help but quake when I noticed Alpha Ned was assessing me, checking to see if I was fit for his son. My dad exchanged pleasantries with him, and I used that opportunity to take a quick glance at Cole. Our gaze met and I could tell this dude can't wait to devour me like I was his object of pleasure. “Lisa,” my dad’s voice caught my attention, and immediately I knew what he meant. I needed to climb the altar. I took off my shawl, and the cold air swirled around my body. The velvet dress I wore was so thin that I was almost naked. It was a ritual among werewolves that packs had followed for centuries, baring all our sins for our mates to accept. And it also made it easier for us to shift without destroying our clothes. My long blue hair covered my chest areas, it veiled my nipples from the cold as I walked up the cold steps with bare legs. My betrothed Cole stood up front, waiting for me. His broad chest were marked with white moon markings that stood identical to the ones on my chest and collarbone. “Adorable,” Cole whispered as his brown eyes stared at me. There was silence everywhere, it almost felt like I could hear a pin drop. It was time for Cole to claim me, I sighed,to relieve the pressure I felt in my chest. Suddenly, Cole growled and I felt heat inside me, like my body was on fire. I screamed from the agony as my knees hit the floor. My body felt like it was in flames. as white steam came out of me. Was changing supposed to be this agonizing and painful? What's going on? why wasn’t I changing? I could feel Cole’s strong grip on my hair as he pulled me up to look at him. “You dared defy my orders to change?” Cole muttered. The quiet hall erupted into whispers. “Oh, no, no, this has to be a mistake,” my dad spoke, his tone confused. “You dare bring a useless wolf to us?” Ned yelled, facing my dad. I felt another pain that made Cole take his hands of me. I heard a large gasp escape from the priest and I looked at the reflection from the moon pool at the altar, and what I saw was shocking. My once fully blue hair now had a streak of silver strands, while even my once dark brown eyes were now a bright blue that had me reeling back in shock. And everyone could see it. “You brought a cursed wolf to us? Isn’t this silver hair a trait of the Wildwood clan that is now extinct? What is the meaning of this?” Ned shouted, his hand pointed towards my dad. I looked to my dad for help, but instead, I saw confusion written all over his face. "This could only mean one thing," he stammered, "She's not really my child." Gasps filled the hair, and for a moment, I wanted nothing more than to just disappear. "So you mean, you've raised a bastard child all this while?" Cole asked, his eyes flashing with anger. “Look at me.” Cole yelled, his tone authoritative. I looked up to meet his gaze. He growled again, urging me to bend my head down in fear and respect, but I didn’t. Instinctively, a growl rumbled in my throat, showing my disposition: I would not yield to him. “You really are a bastard, bitch. You refuse to bow to your alpha." He spat. "Forgive me, Alpha Cole and Chief Ned; I didn't know that I wasn't her biological father.” he urged desperately. I could see the embarrassment on his face as he looked at me with so much disdain. "Nothing you say can undo anything, even though the bond has not been completed, the vows have been made, and she belongs to my son, so he can do what he wants with her as he sees fit. She is a cursed, useless child. And you know it is our tradition to kill the weak,” Chief Ned said I looked to my dad to see his face, but he took his gaze from me. “I agree, she's yours to punish as you deem fit." He said coldly. “Dad..please-“I pleaded, but he didn't look at me at all. "I'm not your father, child. Go look for your father elsewhere." He turned and left the auditorium. Hot tears spilled from my eyes as he walked away. “Poor Lisa, first, your mother whored and left you miserable, now, your father has just denied you. it is such a pity that I'll have to kill you,” Cole said, his voice adding to the pains I felt in my heart. He turned to his father, "What do we do with her?" He asked. Ned spat on the floor, stumping his feet on the spot he spat on, "She's to be treated like an animal. Kill her." Cole turned to face me, "Time to join your mother in the grave but first, I, Alpha Cole Hardy of the Redmoon Pack, reject you Lisa Andrew as my mate!”Lisa's POVThe name itself sent a cold shiver down my spine.“What do you mean by death valley?” I asked, my voice quieter than I intended.Derek didn’t answer immediately. He crouched low, brushing his fingers over the damp soil, then sniffed the air. His expression hardened. “It's a cursed route,” he muttered. “a graveyard for any supernatural being that dares to cross it, even witches.”My stomach tightened. “You brought us here on purpose?”He straightened, eyes flicking to mine. “No. We didn’t have a choice. This is the fastest route to get beyond their reach. If we turn back, those demons, or worse, will find us before nightfall.”I didn’t like it. Every instinct in me screamed that this place was wrong. I tried to calm my pounding heart.“Derek,” I stepped closer. “What if there are more creatures here? What if what we see in this valley is far more cruel than the ones we saw in the forest?”“Like I said, we don't have a choice,” he cut me off, his vo
Lisa's POVI could not take one single step. My legs felt anchored there, into the wet earth, and froze at the sight of those green-eyed beasts. My claws twitched a little, but my body could not respond. I could barely take breath as I was looking at them."Lisa." The name echoed through the haze, sharp and authoritative.I slowly turned my head. In the meantime, Derek had reached to stand right next to me, his body tautly hard, his eyes dark with moods brewing. He saw them, the ugly looking forest demons hiding behind the trees; their glowing eyes locked on us.And without ever seeing hesitation, Derek shifted. The sickening sound of bones snapping, skin tearing, and rebirthing into fur sent an icy shiver up my spine.I have seen him shift once or twice, but never like this. Never with such swiftness. It was akin to watching some wild thing tear itself free from a maw. His wolf stood taller, darker, more terrifying than I remembered: Muscles rippled underneath the thic
Lisa's POVMy scream caught in my throat. The canoe rocked hard. Water splashed into it. Derek grabbed the sides to steady it, his eyes scanning the water fast.“What was that?” I whispered, heart racing. He didn’t answer right away. His jaw clenched tight. “Something’s under us.”I looked into the water, but all I saw was our reflection shaking with the ripples. The river was dark now, deep and wide, and everything around us suddenly felt colder.“Derek?” I said again, my voice thin.He didn’t blink. “Hold onto the canoe. No matter what, don’t fall in.”Another hit came, this time from the other side. We both leaned to balance it, but I was shaking too much to stay calm. Then I heard the same voices again. They were whispers, and louder this time around.I held onto the wooden edge with both hands. “They followed us! The magic, it's still here.”Derek’s eyes turned sharp, red flickering like fire in them. “They shouldn’t be able to follow us on the river.”“Well,
Lisa's POVI walked down to the river and had a quick bath. The water was cold, but I didn’t mind. My body still felt weird after everything that happened. When I came back, Derek was already sitting by a fire, roasting a deer. I had no idea how he caught it so fast. My eyes widened. "You caught that?" I asked, stepping closer. He didn’t look at me. Just turned the stick the meat was on."Yeah. Saw it when I was out earlier. Figured we needed food."I didn’t ask how. I didn’t want to know. He always did things I couldn’t explain."You can eat," he said. "I need to bathe."And with that, he stood up, wiped his hands on his pants, and walked toward the river. I watched him go. His back muscles moved like ropes under his skin. I sat beside the fire, picked a piece of the roasted deer, and started eating slowly. It tasted better than I expected. I guessed I was just very hungry. But then something strange started happening.I began to hear voices. Soft whispers.
Lisa's POVI had the worst dream of my life.Derek was standing in the middle of a village, blood dripping from his claws, and bodies scattered around him. Women, children, old men… all of them. Slaughtered. Their eyes were still open, staring at nothing. Their mouths frozen in screams. Derek didn’t flinch. He walked through the corpses like they were dirt, his red eyes glowing, his skin covered in blood. And then, he looked at me."You’ll be next," he whispered, and smiled.I screamed. The sound of my own voice jolted me awake. I sat up with a gasp, heart pounding against my ribs. My skin was clammy with sweat, and for a moment I couldn’t tell if I was still in the dream or not.The sun hadn’t risen yet, but the sky was already turning pale. Early morning light spilled softly over the trees. Everything was still. I didn’t move. I couldn’t. My limbs felt numb, heavy. I stared at my hands, flexed them slowly, but it was like I wasn’t in my body. Was it the mark? Was it doing
Lisa's POVDerek turned to me, his voice calm but firm. “You should bathe in the river. It’ll help. Wash the dirt and blood off. The water’s clean.”I hesitated. My eyes scanned the clearing warily. “What if Alex’s men catch up with us here? This place is too open.”He looked at me, eyes sharp and sure. “Don’t worry about that. It’s my turn to watch. If there’s more trouble than we can handle, we’ll swim through the river and vanish. No one can follow us that way.”I bit my bottom lip, weighing the risk. A cold wind brushed against my damp clothes, reminding me of the filth clinging to my skin. Finally, I nodded. “Okay. But don’t look.”He smirked. “I’ll give you space.”“No, don’t leave. Just turn around. Face the road.”He obeyed without question, turning his back to me, a few paces away. I watched him for a moment, making sure he wasn’t cheating. When I was sure he wasn’t looking, I undressed slowly, the air sending goosebumps across my skin. My heart pounde
