Standing up to get back to his room, the boys scurried away fearfully, thinking he was coming for them again.

“ Shit, Casey has only been in the orphanage for just a few months; he has never been close to anyone. This is the first time they saw him fight despite his cold temper. No one expected him to be so strong.

°~°~°~°~°~°~°

At night,

This was one of the largest orphanages in Los Angeles, with a large number of orphans. The people from the base arrived at the orphanage in the afternoon, but due to the huge amount of orphans on the list, they had to stay there for the night and continue the screening tomorrow.

Casey retired to her room, seeking refuge in sleep. After all, she had nothing else to do than sleep, eat, and stroll around, but due to movements around the orphanage, she couldn't go to sleep peacefully.

She opened her eyes, sat up on her bed, looking out her window, thinking maybe she should just go for a dip at the natural hot spring she found a few weeks ago at the back of the orphanage playground while taking a stroll; then she got up and went out.

As she walked towards the forest behind the orphanage, the shadows cast by the faint moonlight were her only guide. She caught sight of boys who fought with her day and heard them cursing her from a distance vehemently.

“ Where did that bastard come from? How dare he hit me so hard. I pray he gets killed soon.” Hearing his words, Casey walks towards them, saying coldly, “Whether I get killed or not is a matter of the future, but if you dared curse me more I won't mind and hesitate to kill you now.”

Hearing his voice, the boys were frightened, they all turned pale.

“You… when did you get here?”

Casey didn't answer. She keeps on walking towards the forest.

“ Ptuu.. What's the point of your fighting skills when you're doomed to rot away here? We've warned you that you will rot away in this place after we are selected by M base. The boys mock Casey.

However, as if however as if not hearing them, Casey just glanced around causally and ignored them. The boy whose forehead was injured in the afternoon flew into a rage. “Damn it! How dare you ignore us! I don't think he dares touch us since there are M base people around. Let's throw him in the pool in the forest. Let's teach him a lesson today. This is not a place he can boss around!”

There were twice as many people gathered tonight than in the afternoon in the cafeteria. The group thought that they would be able to subdue Casey.

Casey stopped her movement and turned to look at them casually, waiting for their moves.

But seeing Casey still looking carefree as if all of them put together wouldn't cause any trouble, the other boys who had already witnessed her martial skills dared not come forward and hesitantly drew back.

Seeing them hesitating,” If you are not blind, you should know I have a bad temper. Don't mess with me. Otherwise, I don't mind disabling you all here tonight,” Casey said coldly.

With that, she continued to walk towards the hot spring in the forest as if nothing had happened, ignoring the boys who froze and putting her attention on the men hidden in the shadows. The reason why she keeps on ignoring the boy's provocation is due to her sensing some glares in the shadows.

After Casey left, in one of the guest rooms not far away, some members of the M base discussed among themselves, “ This boy is not bad. He is way better than the kids we checked today.

Another member glanced at the boy going towards the forest and said meaningfully, “An assassin broke in, probably to kill the boss. This boy was able to notice our men in the shadows, hence his vigilant behavior, but the path he is going towards is the same as the boss has taken, which I am sure the assassin has also taken, but trusting the boss to avoid implicating others, especially a kid like this. Don't worry. Let's just wait and see.”

Hearing his words, the others watched as the boy hurried into the forest, wondering why the boy was going there.

Their Boss likes having a hot bath at night, Although the orphanage doesn't have one except a natural hot spring behind the orphanage, which he decided to use like that; now he is having a bath there.

They couldn't imagine what would happen there

~~~~~~~~~~~
As Casey moved closer to the spring, she noticed someone moving sneakily. She stopped and watched, wondering why the person was sneaking around except if someone was in the spring, so she followed him silently down to the spring.
Uhh_ Why did that guy suddenly disappear?
She had followed him down here,
Now she can see the spring through a glimpse of the trees. She would have seen the guy if he had jumped into the spring, but he just suddenly disappeared.
Splash!!, Hearing that she immediately climbed the nearest tree to the spring.
Only for her to spot the guy dead beside the spring. She became alert immediately. Rushing down to check the cause of his death, she misplaced her feet.
Before she could grab hold of herself, she was already sliding into the spring. With a splash, she falls into the hot spring. She immediately rises from the water, wiping her face off the water. Turning around to step out, only to find a pair of cold, black eyes in the mist looking at her….
    Getting back to her room, Casey felt something move inside. She stilled. Her fingers reached for the small utility knife hidden in the lining of her uniform pants.The door creaked as she pushed it open.A tall, lean figure stood in the middle of the room, unmoving.Her breath hitched.But then—“Casey?”Andrew.She relaxed… marginally.“I didn’t mean to startle you,” he said, raising his hands.Casey narrowed her eyes. “Then what are you doing sneaking into my room like a damn ghost? I thought you left when I went to the boss’s office.”“I—okay, fair. I didn’t think you’d be this jumpy.”“Old habit,” she muttered.He gestured toward the floor and sat cross-legged, like they were two kids at a sleepover.“I couldn’t sleep,” he admitted.She didn’t reply.Andrew scratched the back of his neck. “You’re… different. Not in a bad way. Just not like the rest of us.”Casey arched a brow. “You break into everyone’s room to tell them that?”A small smile tugged at his lips. “Only the interesti
    And then_____She crossed the finish line.With three minutes to spare.Panting, she let the dummy drop and wiped the sweat from her brow.The silence stretched.Then Austin let out a low whistle. “I’ll be damned.”Jason checked the stopwatch and finally spoke. “You’ve got guts. I’ll give you that.”Casey steadied her breath, her arms trembling from the exertion.Jason folded his arms. “The boss may have let you in, but this was just a warm-up.”Austin clapped her on the back. “Welcome to Team One, rookie. Hope you survive.”Casey rolled her shoulders, ignoring the burn in her muscles.She’d survived worse.Andrew approached, shaking his head. “You really don’t know when to back down, do you?”“Backing down never got me anywhere.”---The recruits had barracks, but Team One had their own quarters—a privilege earned through blood, sweat, and survival.Jason led Casey through the dimly lit halls, stopping at an empty room. “This is yours. Don’t get too comfortable.”Casey stepped inside
    A murmur spread through the crowd.Has the kid offended the boss before?Even the most hardened recruits were exchanging glances, wondering why Lucas seemed unusually tense.Andrew shifted closer to Casey, lowering his voice. "Casey, have you met the boss before?"Casey’s posture stiffened slightly. "No."Her reply was firm, almost too quick.Andrew frowned. "Then why does he seem annoyed at you?"Casey exhaled through her nose, keeping her face neutral. "How should I know? Maybe he just doesn’t like my face."Andrew wasn’t convinced, but he let it slide for now.What truly puzzled everyone wasn’t just Lucas’s mood—it was the decision he made.Team One.To get into Team One, recruits had to go through Team Two's brutal training and prove themselves worthy before even being considered.But Casey?Lucas had thrown him straight into hell.Team One wasn’t just a group of elite trainees. They were trained for special missions—covert operations and high-risk assignments.And their real lead
    Silence fell over the training ground.The men stepped back, forming a rough circle around Casey and Lucas. Some exchanged amused glances, clearly expecting the ‘newcomer’ to be put in their place.Lucas didn’t move. He merely stood there, his hands in his pockets, exuding an aura of effortless authority.Casey met his gaze, her body completely still, her mind sharp.She had fought countless men before—street thugs, underground fighters, survivalists who clawed for their next meal.But Lucas was different.He wasn’t just another fighter. He was a predator—one who was used to people following his orders without question.“Time’s ticking,” Lucas said smoothly, his voice calm, almost bored.Casey smirked. “You sure you want to do this in front of your men?”A few of the men let out low whistles.Austin chuckled. “This one’s got guts.”Lucas’s expression remained unreadable, but the slight narrowing of his eyes told her he wasn’t amused.Then, without warning, Casey moved.A blur of speed
    Casey’s expression remained cold and unreadable as she took a step back, her gaze flickering toward the black SUVs. The air was thick with tension, every man in the area standing at attention, waiting for their boss to step out.Her instincts screamed at her—this was dangerous. Too dangerous.She had been reckless to follow Andrew here without knowing what she was getting into. Now, standing at the edge of a crowd that treated her like some rare creature, she realized she was playing with fire.With a casual yet firm tone, she spoke.“Your base is not suitable for me. I am not interested anymore. I’ll be off in a minute.”A murmur rippled through the men. No one simply rejected M Base.Austin scoffed, “Where do you think you’re going? You saved Andrew’s life, and that’s not something we forget. Since you have such great martial skills, why don’t you just stay? M Base could use someone like you.”Casey narrowed her eyes. “I don’t need a place to stay.”Andrew quickly stepped closer, lo
  • Defrosting Her Cold Heart    Chapter Nine
    Casey had followed Andrew in silence for what felt like hours. Her instincts screamed caution, but curiosity edged out her wariness. She had nothing to lose—and if this so-called "base" turned out to be a trap, she’d deal with it.When they finally reached a massive industrial building on the outskirts of the city, Casey slowed her steps. The structure was imposing—tall concrete walls, security cameras perched at every corner, and a reinforced gate that spoke volumes about whatever was going on inside.“This the place?” Casey asked, eyeing the building with suspicion.Andrew nodded, shifting nervously. “Yeah. Don’t let the outside fool you—it’s safer in there than out here.”Safer for who? Casey thought. Her gaze scanned the perimeter, noting the guards patrolling with practiced ease. Their movements were sharp—military precision. This wasn’t some street-level gang hideout. It was something else.Instead of going through the front entrance, Andrew led her toward a side door tucked awa
