The Face Behind The Mask

Beta Saul's POV

The Alpha was aging fast, and I knew without an heir, I would be taking over the pack soon enough. I only amused him by staying in the dining hall to listen to the old fool. Never did I expect he was holding a secret like this. This has derailed my whole future, my plans to conquer all nearby packs. My wolf, Drako, was ready to come forth and shred both of them to pieces.

"Alpha, you're lying. There is no possibility of this being true. My blood parents were Geo and Layla Cruz." Teresa sounded like a whiny little pup.

"Take a deep birth my child. I will explain everything in great detail when I return. Until then please let this little bit of information set in. I know this is already more than you can take right now." He says to Teresa and then turns to me. "Beta Saul, I am entrusting you to keep her safe and start training her to take my place. She is my only child and this pack's future ruler, once I am long gone." The Alpha spoke. How foolish could this man be?

He knew I, myself, had been training to take over after him and now he expects me to train this little she-wolf. I looked at Teresa who had tears running down her face. Pathetic creature was in shock and not one bit of me felt sorry. Her world may have changed but mine was taken away.

"I will do my best to teach her everything I know." I didn't care that they saw me say that through gritted teeth. I want them to know, especially Alpha, how upset I was.

"I know you are disappointed my old friend. You have been waiting, preparing to run this pack. However, you know the laws and Teresa is the rightful wolf to take over." If it weren’t for these laws, I would rip his head off. I will find a way to become alpha while he is gone. I will have my seat at the Alphas' table and convince our king to change the law. Allowing others to challenge an alpha, without any repercussions and only by death will the Alpha be determined. I never thought this bloodline law would be ruining my life.

"Thank you for always being a good friend Beta Saul. I must be going now. I have a few documents to look over before I head out." Alpha Kam says after patting my back, as if we were actually friends. Then speaks over his shoulder as he walked away, "Teresa you may head back to your room now." The little pup walked away, heading to front doors instead of the stairs.

'We can get rid of the girl while he is away. Make it look like another misfortunate rogue attack. Not like we haven't done it before.' Drako laughs in the back of my mind. It wasn't a bad idea, but I doubt anyone would believe it to be rogues. Last 'rogue' attack happened a year ago and the one before that was when the last war occurred. Drako listened to my thought and chimed back in, 'We could use our abilities to search through her mind and prove she is guilty. Even though we are the ones that killed her parents, all we have to do is find a shred of evidence to make others believe she did it. Everyone already thinks she did.' Now that was a plan.

'Well let us try to retrieve this information now and follow the she-wolf. She knows nothing about our ability which will make this go smooth and fast.' I said to Drako, who also agreed. So off into the shadows we went on our own personal mission.
