Please Understand

"Please sit back down, we have much to discuss in little time. I know I said I would be leaving in the morning, but I am scheduled to leave in two hours. I didn't want to say anything in front of the others, because this information could cause a war." I paused for a moment to let them prepare themselves. Then I continued, "I have been harboring a secret for many years now. After the unfortunate events that happened last year, I believe it's time to shine some light on our situation."

Trying to think of the best approach, Teresa starts talking. "Alpha Kam, what do you mean this could start a war? Our people are barely holding on now. We cannot afford to risk them or our land again." and she was right. For someone so young, she could recall what happened. The tragic loss of my wife, our Luna.

Our land use to be covered with trees, wildflowers, and there was a vast amount of wildlife. Now we were surrounded by cliffs and dirt, one of the effects from the last war that happened five years ago. Felicity and Damen, two of our special ability members, have been trying to bring our land back to life. But I refuse to let them overexert themselves and possibly die. The war before that was thirteen years prior to the last. We've lost many members in over eighteen years and each death felt like I was reaching my end as well.

"I do not want a war Teresa, but we all need to understand why the last two wars happened." I spoke. I couldn't hold it off any longer. "Eighteen years ago, the first war between our pack and an unknown enemy happened. These beings were faster than our people and were defeating our strongest warriors."

Teresa interrupted, "I'm sorry Alpha but everyone knows the story. What is the reason behind all of this?"

"Insolent little she-wolf, how dare you talk to Alpha Kam like that. He has done everything in his power to keep you from meeting your death. Show some respect for our Alpha and listen to what he has to say." Beta Saul snapped, which surprised me. He seemed very testy lately and I made a mental note to speak to him about it when I got back from my trip.

"That is enough Beta. Our younger generation is not as patient as the rest of us, which brings me to my point. I am getting old, and I fear I will not be able to continue in my role for much longer. I have dedicated the last few years to providing our people with the necessary training in case another war was to come." I knew I lost them by the look in their eyes. I cleared my throat and proceeded. "As many believe, I do not have an heir."

" Sire, please excuse my interruption but what do you mean by 'believe'?" Beta Saul asked. I knew he would catch on first.

"I do have an heir. A daughter to be precise and she lives in our pack. She does not know but it is time to inform her." I turn to Teresa and place my hand on her shoulder. She looks at my hand and then my face. Confusion more apparent than anything else. Before she could say a word, I speak. "Teresa, I hope you will understand that your parents were not of blood. I am and I should have told you long before today."
