Audrey's POV

Pain exploded through my stomach, dragging me awake with a gasp.

"Oh, thank God." A female voice whispered and warm hands pressed something against my side. "Don't move, you'll tear the wound.”

I tried to sit up anyway but a groan left my lips and I snapped back against the hard ground.

The sound of dripping water echoing in the silence finally caught my attention and I snapped my eyes open.

Everywhere was dark, only a faint light was filtering. The stone underneath me was damp and I smelled river water.

"Where are we?” I whispered, frowning as I looked around.

"We're in a cave," the voice answered. “I got us out of the river. You’ve been unconscious for two days.”

Two days?

I turned my head to see my lookalike crouched beside me, pressing a folded cloth to my side.

The memories suddenly rushed forward and I winced, clutching my head.

"You lost a lot of blood.” She adjusted the cloth and I hissed through my teeth. "Your healing is unusually slow. Are you an omega… without a wolf?”

I nodded slowly, stealing a look at the makeshift bandage around my midsection, it was stained dark with dried blood.

The knife had been poisoned.

“You used your clothes?” I asked, noticing the missing sleeve from her shirt.

She shrugged. “There wasn’t anything else to stop the bleeding.”

“Thank you.” I whispered, shifting uneasily.

The longer she stared at me, the more I felt uncomfortable.

It was unnerving to look at someone with your face, even down to the scrunch between my eyebrows… she had it.

“Who are you?” I finally asked.

She handed me a rusted can of water first.

“My name is Leslie,” she said after I drank. “Leslie Ashton.”

I nearly choked on my own spit. “Ashton? As in the Bluemoon territory?”

She nodded and I leaned back in awe, struggling to make sense of what she just said.

Alpha Ashton was one of the most powerful alphas in the world. Madame Bertha was born there and she never hesitated to sing the praises of the famous Alpha.

"You're his daughter," I whispered, staring at a face so identical to mine.

She bobbed her head. "His only daughter and child, yes."

Leslie leaned close. “But now, I wonder. Could it be that you're my twin? A long lost sister or a doppleganger?”

“I have no idea.” I whispered truthfully and her lips twitched.

She smiled faintly before wincing.

“You don’t look well,” I said.

“I’m fine.” She leaned against the cave wall and took a slow breath. “I’m also the woman betrothed to the Alpha King’s son.”

My heart skipped. Kairos’ face flashed through my mind before I shoved it away.

Now wasn’t the time.

“I came here with my parents for the engagement ceremony,” Leslie whispered. “Instead… someone tried to kill me.”

She opened her mouth to speak but a violent cough seized her. When she pulled her hand away from her mouth, I saw the blood on her palm.

I cursed, scrambling towards her.  "Dammit, Leslie!”

She had been hurt worse than me yet she was tending to my own wound for two days.

“I think a broken rib punctured something inside me. She stared at me and there was something I didn't like in her eyes. “My wolf is not helping me.”

I tried to stand but the pain was like fire licking my entire body. "We need to get you help, you won't survive long if you stay like this.”

She grabbed my wrist instead. “What's your name?”

I eyed her warily. “Audrey.” I muttered.

"Audrey." She squeezed my hand. "I'm not going to survive this.”

I snatched my hand away. “No.”

“I need you to listen.” The certainty in her voice terrified me. “I don’t have much time.”

I stared at her through burning eyes and slowly nodded.

“The assassins came from the palace,” she said. “Someone wanted me dead before the marriage. Whoever gave that order is still there.”

I shook my head. “We can still leave and tell your parents-“

“I won’t make it.” Leslie snapped but she started coughing again, more blood spilling out of mouth.

I rushed to steady her, but she held onto my hands instead. Her eyes were wild and I saw the tears in them.

"I’ve spent two days staring at your face,” she whispered. “Wondering if fate brought us together for a reason.”

A sad smile crossed her lips. “I always wished I had a sister.” My throat tightened as she pulled me into a weak embrace.

“Aren’t you curious too?” Her breathing suddenly faltered and her body sagged against mine. “I need your help, Audrey.”

I clutched her tighter, panic rising in my chest. She reached into her pocket with trembling fingers and placed something in my hand.

An old bronze key covered in strange markings.

"What does it open?" I asked.

Her hand found mine around the key and closed over it weakly. "I don't know but you can help me find out.”

She looked into my eyes with determination. “Take my place.”

My breath caught and I stared at her in horror. “What?”

“Go to the palace as Leslie Ashton and find the person who did this to me.”She lifted a trembling hand and cupped my cheek. “Then find out who you really are.”

Tears blurred my vision but she was smiling.

“I’m glad… I met you, Audrey.” She whispered and then her hand went slack in mine, her eyes fluttering close.

“Leslie?” Her eyes remained closed. “Leslie!? Wake up… please.”

I lifted my shaky hand and pressed my fingers to her neck.

But there was nothing.

The cave fell silent except for my broken sobs. I cried until my chest ached and there was nothing left but dry soreness.

I looked down at the key, it was still in my hand but it felt hotter now. I closed my fist around it and squeezed.

"I'll take your place," I whispered, the promise winding tight around my chest.  "I promise, Leslie. I'll find who did this to you and I will make them pay for it."

I looked at her face one more time and then I pressed a cold kiss at the top of her head.

“Thank you for saving me.” I muttered against her skin.

From now on, Audrey Lane was dead.

I was now Leslie Ashton. The only daughter of Alpha Ashton and the future fiancée to the Cursed Alpha’s son.

Audrey's POV "Hold onto my hand," I said, looking him dead in the eye. "No matter what happens, do not let go."He nodded and we ran.The building was entering its final collapse. The ground beneath us violently shuddered, sending deep thuds echoing through the structure as whole floors collapsed above us. Chunks of plaster and stone rained down like meteors. Every step I took sent an agonizing pain straight up my spine from the burn on my back, but I squeezed the boy's hand tighter and kept sprinting forward."Run!" I shouted. We burst through the emergency doors just as a massive explosion tore through the building behind us. A strong blast of heat slammed into our backs, throwing us both forward onto the alleyway. The building collapsed into a roaring mountain of fire and black smoke behind us.I lay on the cold pavement, panting heavily, my chest heaving as I drew in clean air. Beside me, the little boy was coughing, but he was alive. We had made it out.A massive crowd had gat

  • Dirty Dancing with the Cursed Alpha    Pushing Limits

Audrey’s POV The intense heat hit my face before I even opened my eyes, the suffocating air pressed down on my chest and all I smelled was ash and burning chemicals. I opened my eyes, but tears immediately flooded them, stinging against the thick gray smoke surrounding me."Mai!" I choked out, my throat feeling like sandpaper. "Mai, where are you?"Nobody answered me. There was no screams of the panicking crowd, or sound of blaring fire alarms. I pushed myself up onto my elbows, my head throbbing with a sharp pain where I had hit the counter earlier. As my eyes adjusted to the flames around me, my stomach dropped. Where the hell was I? This was the boutique floor. The pristine white tiles were gone, replaced by exposed concrete, broken pipes, and piles of burning debris.Seraphine.I remembered her standing over me with those triumphant eyes just before I lost consciousness. Audrey’s POV I tried my best to push Seraphine’s bitter words into the quietest corner of my mind, but they clung to me, regardless. Every step I took through the boutique felt weighed down by the reminder that people who wished I didn't exist surrounded me.Mai must have noticed the slump in my shoulders because she suddenly clapped her hands together."Alright!" Mai declared, turning to the store attendants with her chin held high and a wide smile. "Bring out your finest evening gowns. My lady needs something worthy of a Luna, and we won't settle for anything less than perfection."The attendants scurried away, and within minutes, the fitting area transformed into a swirl of vibrant clothes.Mai pushed me into the changing room, handing me gown after gown. The first was a midnight blue gown that felt like water against my skin, then an emerald halter neck that made my breasts look larger than they actually were. Every time I stepped behind the curtain, Mai gasped loudly, placing

Kairos POV Governor Jorab was droning on about trade tariffs, while I rested my chin on my hand, staring blankly at the men in front of me. Against my will, my thoughts drifted away from the conversation and settled on Leslie.I kept replaying the scene from last night in my room and I couldn’t get over the way she had looked at me with those wide eyes and suggested we wait until we were both comfortable before doing anything. She wore an almost innocent smile that had no business belonging to a murderer and a sharp pang of guilt stabbed through my chest.I hated it. It made my blood boil. She is the enemy, I reminded myself savagely. She is the daughter of Roman Ashton, and my son is dead because of her family.I slammed my fist onto the table with enough force to rattle the glass cups of water. The entire council room flinched. Jorab stopped mid-sentence while the surrounding governors froze, staring at me with confusion. "Start over," I barked. "From the beginning, Joran. And m

Audrey’s POV My heart hammered against my ribs as the knocking grew more insistent."Just a moment!" I called out as I scrambled to stall for time.My hands trembled as I shoved the glass vial of poison back into the secret compartment and slammed the lid of the box shut. I slid the box deep under the vanity table, then I sucked in a deep breath and forced my facial muscles into a smile.I walked over and pulled the door open. Kairos stood in the doorway, looking as pristine as always."Good morning, Alpha Kairos," I greeted him with a respectful bow.He didn't say a word and I looked up to see him staring at me in a way that made my skin prickle. The silence stretched between us, growing thicker and more awkward by the second."Kairos?" I prompted, tilting my head. "Is everything alright?"He finally blinked, breaking the silent stare. "Our coronation is scheduled for two days from now," he said. "It will be a small affair. Only high council members and pack leaders will attend."I

Audrey’s POV The next morning, I woke up very early to see off my fake parents. They were leaving together and for some reason, it made me feel heavy and worried. To make things worse, I still couldn’t make sense of Kairos’ behavior last night. He was the one who wanted to spend the night with me but he walked out after accusing me of trying to poison him?If anything, I should be the one upset in this scenario but I wasn’t. My maids and I were in the front entrance of the palace, their luxury car was waiting behind them. Lillian had pulled me into a tight embrace, crying as she patted my back. “I’m going to miss you, my darling Leslie.”“Me too, mom.” I said, returning her embrace.
