Chapter Six

Chapter 6

Upon hearing Kevin’s words, Sharon bent her soft smile. Then she lowered her head and fiddled with her delicate fingers.

“Liam is growing up so fast, Kevin. I just got fired from the bakery I worked at yesterday because it went bankrupt. I have to leave to survive. I don’t want to keep bothering you. You’ve already helped my family too much.”

Kevin kept a sad expression as he silently watched Sharon. Soon, this beautiful woman sitting in front of him would be leaving him.

Kevin turned his gaze back to Liam, who seemed to be happily running around with the other restaurant patrons this time.

“Alright. If that’s what you really want to do…” Kevin took a deep breath. Then Kevin turned to look at Sharon.

“But remember one thing. Take good care of yourself in New York. Let me know when you find a place to rent there. And… if there’s any problem, please let me know anytime, Sharon.”

Sharon smiled and nodded.

“Of course, Kevin. You’re a very good friend,” Sharon said, and Kevin responded with a sad smile.

“Until this moment, you still consider me as a friend, Sharon,” Kevin sighed inwardly.

“Take care of mommy, alright!” When they arrived at the bus station, Kevin gently stroked Liam’s hair.

Liam frowned and looked at Sharon with questioning eyes.

“Aren’t you coming with us?”

Sharon looked at Kevin, equally confused. But then Sharon gently patted Liam’s shoulder.

“Liam will only go with mommy and grandma,” Sharon explained. Sharon then bit her lip because she lied to her son.

“What about daddy then?” Liam furrowed his brows and asked Kevin.

“He has a phone. Daddy will call Liam often. Liam must be a good boy. Study hard in your new school,” Kevin said.

Liam weakly nodded, but his right hand held onto Kevin’s strong fingers. It was as if the little boy found it hard to separate from Kevin.

“Let’s go, Kevin.”

“Take care, Sharon. And don’t forget to let me know when you arrive in New York.”

Sharon nodded. Then she held Liam’s hand and quickly got on the bus.

As the bus started moving in front of him, Kevin could only let out a weak sigh. He focused his gaze on the vehicle carrying the people he loved.

On the bus, Liam pursed his lips and continued looking out the window.

“Liam! Sweetie, that’s enough. Daddy promised to have time to visit you. So don’t be sad anymore, okay?” Sharon rubbed her son’s back.

But Liam could only slump his shoulders.

“When will we arrive, mommy?” Liam rested his head on Sharon’s shoulder and asked.

“It’s still a long way, sweetheart. Rest on mommy’s lap. Mommy will wake you up when we get there.”

He settled his small body on the bus seat.

Sharon’s fingers gently stroked his hair as Liam slowly fell asleep.

Until they finally reached their destination. Sharon brought her family to a seemingly simple house.

“Sharon, I’m sorry. I could only rent this house for you and your family. It’s already the cheapest price. But it’s not far from the office,” Vill said while opening the door for Sharon.

Sharon and her family went inside and looked around the rooms.

“It’s okay, Vill. This house is enough for us. Thank you for helping me find a rental,” Sharon said gratefully.

“I’m your friend, Sharon. The interview will probably be at eleven or twelve. You brought your complete resume, right?”

Sharon nodded confidently.

“I did.”

“Very good. I pray that you’ll be chosen as the secretary there. The company boss is handsome, Sharon.”

Today, Sharon would be applying for a job at a big company. Vill said the company needed a new secretary.

Sharon arrived at the destination on time.

“Sharon!” Sharon looked up when she heard her name.

Now it was Sharon’s turn to enter the HRD room.

Sharon prayed first, then walked in and sat in front of a stern-looking woman.

“Your name is Sharon?” HRD asked.

“Yes, I’m Sharon.”

HRD nodded and looked at Sharon’s resume for a while. Sharon held her breath and fidgeted her fingers. She hoped to be accepted.

Soon, HRD looked up again and turned to Sharon. But this time, she had a smile on her lips.

“Congratulations, Sharon! You have been chosen as this company’s secretary!”

Sharon was shocked and could hardly believe what she heard.

“Really? It’s that simple?” Sharon asked, perplexed.

“Yes, Sharon. Now you can sign the employment contract. Tomorrow will be your first day at the office,” HRD explained.

Of course, Sharon couldn’t waste this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in front of her.

“I’m willing to start working tomorrow. I’m ready to sign the contract today,” Sharon immediately replied, afraid that HRD might change her mind.

HRD nodded and handed Sharon a document. It was a labor contract agreement.

Overjoyed, Sharon forgot that she hadn’t carefully read the contents of the contract.

Without any doubt, Sharon quickly signed it.

HRD smiled and closed the document.

“Congratulations once again, Sharon. One thing I need to tell you though. The boss you were chosen by as a secretary wants to meet you first.”

Sharon fell silent for a moment and furrowed her brows. For some reason, Sharon felt that something was strange about this.
