•Juliet's POV•

The ray of morning light slipped through the parted curtains, flickering across my eyelids. I stirred, blinking against the soft brightness as I pulled myself upright in bed. A cool breeze flowed into the room through the slightly open window, brushing against my skin. I stretched out my arms, inhaling deeply, the scent of fresh linen and a hint of pine drifting in the air.

After freshening up, I threw on a plain black top and gray jogger pants, keeping it casual. Since it was weekend and I won't be going to the office. With quiet steps, I made my way down the hallway and gently pushed open the door to Jace's room. The soft creak of the door was barely audible, as I slowly walked in.

There he was. Still curled up beneath the covers, his soft curls spread across his pillow. A peaceful look rested on his small face, his breathing even and slow. I moved closer and pressed a gentle kiss on his cheek.

As I turned to leave, his sleepy voice stopped me. "Mommy, am I go

•Eric POV•I moved my hand around the steering wheel as I drove down the road, my eyes fixed ahead but my mind far away. I couldn’t get my mother’s words out of my head, the way she had spoken to Vera like she was nothing. And the fact that after we talked about it, after I told her clearly that marrying Vera was my decision, she hadn’t said anything again. She had been silent ever since.I glanced at the rearview mirror, trying to read her face, but she looked lost in thought, staring straight ahead without really seeing anything.Vera sat in the passenger seat beside me, her gaze fixed on the window. The streetlights reflected softly on her face as we passed, and the silence in the car made my chest tighten. She was too quiet. Vera was never this quiet.“My love,” I called, lifting my hand from the steering wheel to touch her arm.She turned to look at me with a thin-lipped smile. It was the kind she used when she didn’t want me to ask questions. She was pretending to be happy. I co

•Vera POV•“Are you sure you’re going to be okay?” Juliet asked as we sat on the couch in the reception area. With only a few people around, the space felt too quiet, and outside the glass walls, the sky was already turning dark.“Yes, Jules. I’ll be fine,” I mumbled, staring down at my manicured nails coated with pink gloss. I flexed my fingers slowly, watching how the light reflected on them. “Eric asked me to wait here for him.”She didn’t look convinced. Juliet gave me a sympathetic look and reached for my hand, making me lift my face to hers. “Vera, I know you to be a strong lady. Someone who was there and ready to fight for me when I was going through the James issue. You were mostly my strength then, and now I need you to be strong for yourself and your baby.”I smiled, the kind meant to reassure her more than myself. It wasn’t like I had totally given up on everything because of what Mrs. Lawson had said earlier. I was just… unhappy, confused, and tired.“Thank you, Jules,” I

•Vera POV•“Congratulations, Vera. You deserve it,” Edward said as he pulled me into a hug.“Thank you, Mr. Miles,” I muttered when we pulled out of the hug. My gaze drifted around the hall, taking in the few people standing around, the smiles, the soft claps. My heart swelled with excitement. I couldn’t believe I had been worried not quite long ago. Look at me now, engaged, pregnant, and standing here like I had my life together.Eric walked over and took my hand. “Let’s take a pic, honey,” he whispered softly as he leaned close to my ear. “I bet you’d want something to show our baby when she grows up.”“Eric,” I chuckled, shaking my head. “She’ll probably ask why her dad looks so proud like he won a medal.”He laughed and pulled me closer, his arm sliding around my waist like it belonged there.Brooke walked over, raising her phone. “Smile for the camera, our latest couple of the year.”I smiled just as the camera flashed. Eric tightened his hold on me, and Brooke snapped the pictur

•Vera POV•“Let me leave you guys to talk. I need to get on the other designers,” Eric said as he leaned in and kissed me softly on the lips before walking away.Once he was gone, I walked over to the chair and sat down, placing my hand on top of the brown, polished, sleek desk while Brooke stood opposite me.“I’d like to see the sample of designs you sketched for the event,” I said.Brooke stretched out her notepad toward me, and I collected it. “I must say, I was quite impressed by what I saw on the runway.”I flipped through the pages slowly. “This is fine, but it would need a few adjustments. A little slit here and there,” I said, pointing at one of the sketches. The dress was a fitted evening gown, long and flowing, with soft lines that hugged the waist before falling straight to the floor. The top had thin straps and a deep neckline that wasn’t too much, just enough to draw the eye. The fabric looked light, like silk, and the way she sketched the folds made it seem like it would

•Eric POV•“I didn’t know you already had plans of marrying someone else,” Brooke muttered with a cheesy smile.“How did you know that?” I asked, surprised. I hadn’t mentioned my plans to anyone except my mom, who would be in New York in a few days.Brooke tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she rolled her eyes. “Don’t forget I’m part of the family. Why would everyone in the family know about it and I don’t?”I sighed when it finally clicked who must have told her. “Thelma told you, right?” I arched an eyebrow at her, and she chuckled.“Jeez, that girl doesn’t know when to keep a secret.”“Well, now that I know, I’m happy for you,” she said. Her gaze dropped to the tablet in her hand when it made a slight sound.“I’ve got to go, Brooke. Don’t do anything stupid,” I muttered. She gasped, placing a hand on her chest. “Wow. So hurtful.”I walked through the crowd, my eyes searching for Vera. I spotted her standing at the other side of the hall with Mrs. Ryder and made my way

•Vera POV•The clapping felt louder than my thoughts as I stepped onto the stage. My heels hit the floor, and for a second, I almost forgot how to walk. I paused, then laughed softly, lifting my hands.“Okay, okay,” I said into the microphone. “If you people clap any louder, I’ll start shedding tears of joy again, and I don't want to ruin my makeup.”Laughter rolled through the hall, easing the tight feeling in my chest.I took a deep breath and looked around. The lights were bright, but I could still see faces. Smiling faces. Proud faces. Then my eyes found Juliet. She was sitting close to the runway, Jace beside her. She was smiling at me like she always did, calm, steady, like she wasn’t the one who had just changed my entire life. For a moment, my throat tightened.“I didn’t prepare a speech,” I admitted, shaking my head. “Because honestly, I didn’t even know this was happening today.”More laughter followed.“But standing here right now…” I paused, letting my eyes travel around t
