LOGINAIDEN’S POV
I did the right thing. I was sure of it. Nora was no good. She couldn’t even bear me a pup, not even a female. Her body was frail, and clearly cannot carry my seed. I tightened my grip around my pen, as I scribbled some words onto the document, my heart in a completely different place. There were a thousand reasons to hold onto. She was wolfless. Too ugly to be presented to anyone as my Luna. I was so embarrassed each time she accompanied me out, which rarely happened by the way. In the heat of the situation, I noticed Celeste. With Celeste the attraction was stronger. I noticed the way my eyes lingered over her hips as they swayed like a pendulum. Her lips glazed with the perfect shade of red lipstick. Celeste was everything an Alpha wanted. Confident. Outspoken. Celeste commanded respect in any room she walked in. And she knew how to press the right buttons to get what she wanted. Me. It was almost like the moon goddess was playing a trick on me. I used to like…maybe love Nora. That was before the disaster struck, that plummeted her into an ogre. I couldn’t bear to look at her face a minute longer. So, I opted to spend more time with Celeste, using pack’s duties as an excuse. Celeste somehow knew what to say, and the exact time to say it. In the heat of the moment, right on my office desk I took her for the first time. Every inch of her body yearned for me, and I enjoyed the sin. The memory etched in my mind like a second skin. Instead of feeling remorse, carnal lust burned inside me. I wanted more and more. My wolf had rebuked me, sometimes proving stubborn. Albeit, each time I was deep inside Celeste, he buried himself in my heart, like he didn’t want to take part. He never did. My wolf didn’t see, and had never seen Nora as imperfect. I didn’t care. Now that she is gone, I should be happy. Hell! Probably throw a feast that’ll last days. The leech was gone from my life. I knew without a flicker of doubt that she wouldn’t survive life outside the Riverstone pack. She was too weak, and would come back crawling, and begging to be taken back. The calligraphic pen snapped under the weight of my grip, at the nasty thought of what I’ll do to her. Riverstone was the only pack she knew all her life. I was her first. I saw it in her eyes each time she succumbed to me. The way she responded to my wolf even though I was rough with her. Silly girl! Nora couldn’t see past the mate bond. She was so clumsy, and couldn't see past her emotions. Unlike Celeste, Nora was selfless. The kind that could pass for foolishness. She never stood up for herself, not for one second. My Beta had given me reports of insubordination against her by the pack members. They taunted her without remorse. Most of which should be punished. Yet, she always wore her signature smile that was dented by the scar. Pups at the infirmary, and orphanage where the only one who didn’t squirm when she came closer. They hugged her, and strangely found her fascinating. I hated her guts. How she didn’t even try, but somehow found a way to stand out. I straightened in my seat when a knock sounded on the door, followed by a creak. Beta Austin bowed the minute he stepped into my office. “You sent for me Alpha.” A long pause. Then, I cleared my throat. “I want you to send your men out, and search the pack borders,” my voice was unsteady. “If you’d see her.” Beta Austin lifted his head. “See who?” I curled my hands into a fist. “You know who the hell I’m talking about.” A frown coloured his face. “Nora?” No response. Beta Austin cleared his throat, and began. “I don’t think she made it. There was no sign of her—” I cut in. “Check again.” “But—” I stomped my hands against the table. That was enough message. “She cannot just walk away like that,” I seethed. “Nora needs to be taught a lesson.” “Being a rogue is enough of a lesson,” Beta Austin said after a beat. “No pack would take in a wolfless astray.” “I don’t care. Find her for me.” Beta Austin let out a sigh. “Celeste would…” I cut in before he had a chance to finish his statement. “Be more than pleased to be served by Nora. Trust me, I know your sister very well.” “Very well then. I’ll do that and get back to you, Alpha.” I waved my hand, dismissing him. My office descended in a round of silence. I pushed myself up, and headed towards the door. I needed to sprint in my wolf’s form to brush off the tension that hung heavy on my shoulders. I was a few feet away from the door, when a strong vanilla scent hit my nose, and rested around my groin. Celeste walked in, wearing a red silky robe that swept across the marble tiles as she strutted. “Hey baby,” she chirped. Her hands were occupied with a bottle of red wine, and two wine glasses. I was dazzled by her beauty. “I brought this,” she said in that exotic voice that got to me. Celeste sidestepped me, and walked further into the room. Her eyes surveying the space. Celeste inhaled sharply. “Feels brand new. Now that bitch is gone, I can have you all to myself.” She placed the wine bottle, and the glass cup on the table. And slipped out of her robe. “I can’t wait to officially become your Luna.” My wolf snarled. I didn’t care. This was my choice, Celeste was my choice. “You’ve always been my Luna. The moon goddess made a mistake.” She pouted, holding eye contact. “I totally agree.” She poured into each glass, and gestured for me to come. I did. I couldn’t resist Celeste even if I tried. I brought the wine glass to my lips, and downed the content in one gulp. Celeste giggled. “Ah. Easy now darling,” she said, caressing her nipples beneath the lingerie. “I was thinking… why don’t we spend the night in your office, like we used to when that fool was still in our lives.” It wasn’t a question. I did whatever she wanted. I raised my hands in surrender. “Anything you want, my Luna.”NORA"We'll see about that." Maddox smirked, picking up his glass. "Your brother seemed very eager to make this union happen. He basically begged me to take you off his hands.""Liam is stressed," I lied smoothly, keeping my face blank. "He thinks your army can protect us from the northern packs.""My army?" Maddox laughed out loud. It was a harsh, grating sound. "Is that what he told you? He said he needed my soldiers?""Yes.""Wow. Liam really is a coward." Maddox shook his head, looking highly amused. "He didn't come to me for soldiers, Nora. He came to me for silence."My heart skipped a painful beat."Silence about what?" I asked, keeping my voice dangerously low.Maddox leaned forward. His dark eyes glittered with malicious, arrogant triumph."Those mercenaries who ambushed you last week," Maddox whispered. "The ones who nearly killed you and your pups in the warehouse. You thought Alpha Vance hired them, didn't you?""Intelligence confirmed Vance signed the contract.""Vance pr
NORA’S POVMy desk phone buzzed sharply, shattering the quiet of my office.Snatching the receiver, Liam’s voice barked through the line. He demanded I come to his study immediately. He sounded frantic, breathless, and angry. Before I could even ask what was wrong, the line clicked dead.I dropped the phone back into its cradle. A bad feeling twisted my stomach. Liam and I hadn't spoken properly in days. Ever since the bloody badge showed up on my desk, my adopted brother had become a paranoid, hostile stranger.Stepping out into the hallway, my heels sank into the thick carpet of the east wing. Guards nodded respectfully as I passed. Reaching his heavy oak door, I pushed it open without bothering to knock.Inside, Liam paced near the window. A half-empty bottle of whiskey sat on his desk. It was barely noon."You look like hell," I noted, closing the door behind me."Sit down, Nora." He refused to look at me, keeping his eyes fixed on the snowy courtyard outside."I have a trade meet
NORA"Wife?" A sharp, mocking laugh slipped past my lips. My glass of bourbon stayed perfectly level in my hand. "You really are delusional, Alpha. My father warned me the northern kings suffered from unchecked arrogance. Now I see it firsthand."Kai’s jaw tightened. His golden eyes burned into mine, searching for the terrified girl he used to know. "Stop lying, Nora.""Address me as Heiress," I corrected smoothly, dropping the smile. "And if you want to cause a diplomatic incident in front of the entire continental council, be my guest. Grab me. Drag me out. Let us see how the fifty Alphas in this room react when you violate a neutral summit to kidnap the daughter of Moon Creek."Halil grabbed his brother’s shoulder, his grip desperate. "Kai. Look around."Dozens of elite guards from various territories had already stopped talking. Hands hovered near holstered weapons. A single aggressive move from Kai would trigger a massive bloodbath right in the middle of the rotunda."You think a
NORA’S POVGolden chandeliers cast a harsh, bright light across the Obsidian Peak rotunda. This was the Continental Council, a brutal political arena disguised as a high-society gala. Only packs with serious leverage held seats at the central mahogany table. Deals made in this room dictated the survival of thousands.Sitting near the front, Kai and Halil looked like absolute royalty. Getting their spots was effortless. Every Alpha in the room desperately sought an alliance with the Blackcrest Kings this winter. Kai sat rigidly in his dark suit, his jaw clenched, his amber eyes scanning every corner of the room. He was hunting. He just didn't realize his prey was currently standing on the upper balcony, holding a crystal glass of sparkling water.Leaning against the brass railing, my gaze bypassed the twins and landed on a much smaller, far more pathetic target.Aiden.Standing near the bar, he wore a gray suit that didn't fit his shoulders right. He looked incredibly proud of himself,
THIRD PERSON’S POV Dead silence fell over the council room.Chloe covered her ears, taking a terrified step backward.Standing frozen near the table, Halil stared at the blank tablet. His jaw hung slightly open.Deep inside the dark, hollow cavern of Kai’s chest, something violently twitched. The rotting corpse of his inner wolf, the beast that hadn't made a single sound in two entire years, suddenly gasped for air."What the hell was that?" Chloe whispered, her voice shaking badly. "That sounded like a monster.""Gideon," Kai spoke, his voice dropping into a ragged, breathless rasp. "Who made that sound?""According to our asset," Gideon swallowed hard, clearly struggling to comprehend his own report. "The Moon Creek Heiress had her children with her in the warehouse. Two toddlers. The mercenaries pointed their rifles at them. The children... they roared, Alpha.""That is biologically impossible," Halil stated immediately, shaking his head. He looked at Kai, his golden eyes wide wit
THIRD PERSON’S POV Rain lashed violently against the reinforced glass of the Blackcrest council room.Staring blankly at the gray, freezing storm outside, Kai didn't move a single muscle. He sat at the head of the massive mahogany table, wrapped in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit. His face was a mask of cold, impenetrable stone. For twenty-four months, he had existed in this exact state. He wasn't living. He was just functioning."You aren't even listening to me, are you?" Chloe demanded, her voice echoing sharply across the empty room.Pacing back and forth near the unlit fireplace, she shot him a venomous glare. She wore a sleek designer dress, diamond earrings flashing in the dim light. To the rest of the continent, she was the beautiful, powerful Luna of the Royal Pack. Behind closed doors, she was nothing but a political warden trapped in a miserable, hollow marriage."I heard every word," Kai replied, his tone completely dead and flat. "You want me to execute Elder Rossi bec
NORA’S POV My heart stomped against my chest as I made my way to the lavish waiting area that led to Alpha Aiden’s office. I grabbed my clutch in one hand, my other hand trembled lightly. His secretary walked out of his office, her expression inscrutable. “He’s busy…” Her voice came out indiffere
NORA’S POV. I groaned, struggling to pry my eyes open. “Our Luna decided to grace us with her consciousness.” A stern voice cut across the room. I made to sit up, but all my bones felt like they were crushed under the weight of a boulder. My eyes lingered around the room. It wasn’t like my room i
KAI’S POV You’ve got to be kidding me. A stray. A fucking stray that had tinges of rejection all over her. To make it worse, she was wolfless. My eyes hovered all over her, and my heart boiled with a mixture of disgust. Why on earth would the moon goddess think she could link us to a stray as a s
HALIL’S POV I clenched my hand around the edge of the Ebony table, as surges of electric current splintered through my chest. Fucking hell! A devilish smirk lined the corner of my lips. “This might just be our chance at easing the grief.” I spat. Kai grunted, and didn’t say a word. My Gamma Chi
