JAYDEN's POVThe gym had always been my escape. Whenever my father succeeded in getting to talk to me…which lately, seemed to be a daily occurrence since he can’t help but get under my skin. I decided to keep throwing punches at a bag or pushing my body until my muscles burned. ZANDER’s POVThe dorm feels eerily quiet as I step out. The click of the door echoing down the hallway as I adjusted the strap of my bag and shoved my hands into my pockets needing to leave the room before Jayden crawls under my skin this morning.“So much for thinking way ahead of myself.” I muttered. “I’d actually thought he’d remember the whole thing.”I didn’t need him to remember every embarrassing detail from last night….God knew neither of us needed that, but at least… something.“The apology...” I whisper under my breath.Instead, all I’d gotten was a confused stare and a mumbled question about why there was tea on his bedside table. JAYDEN’s POVMy phone rings immediately I leave the room and I don't need to look at it to know who it is.“Father”For a moment, I considered letting it ring till he gets tired of calling, but…With a quiet sigh, I answered. “What?”“Your mother is in the hospital.” Immediately I hear that, everything around me seemed to fade into the background and my grip on the phone tightened.“What did you say?”“She collapsed.” It felt like my heart was getting squeezed.“Is she okay?” I asked,“She’s stable.”Relief washed over me for exactly one second before he ruined it. “But don’t get too comfortable.” And I felt my jaw clench so hard I was surprised a tooth didn’t crack.“You know I’m the one paying for her hospital bills even though she doesn’t stay with us.” I closed my eyes before he continued. “I can stop whenever I want.” His words felt like a punch to my chest. “If you forget your place…” my father continued, “I’ll forget mine.”“What do you want?” I asked.“There you are.” He said

ZANDER’s POV“Dude, that looks insane.” The class still buzzing because of the sketches we did. It wasn’t as though Jayden didn’t deserve the praise—he definitely did.His sketch was beautiful. Every curve and outline had been drawn with precision. Every detail carried some sort of patience and emotion that made me wonder how Jayden knew how to sketch this well.The Professor hadn’t been exaggerating about his work at all. JAYDEN’s POVBy the time I got back to the dorm after stalling to avoid talking with Zander tonight, the hallway was dead quiet, probably because everyone was tipsy as hell. I finally stopped in front of the dorm door and unlocked it. The only light in the room came from the moon reflecting through. I shut the door as quietly as I could and looked toward the other side of the room when I heard shuffling.“Zander.” He was turned away from me, curled up beneath the blanket with his back facing the room. It looked like he had fell asleep moments ago.
