The engagement party ended not with vows, but with vicious laughter echoing through Manhattan's elite circles.

Every guest left with a smirk, as if they'd just witnessed the juiciest soap opera of the decade--starring none other than the Martin family.

For a full week, tabloids feasted on the scandal.

US Weekly's headline screamed, "SWAPPED AT THE ALTAR, Inside Cecilia Martin's Revenge Wedding!" while Page Six dissected every humiliating detail--from Ronald' abrupt departure to the very compromising photos of him and Gia leaked to TMZ.

It was the kind of drama even Hollywood couldn't script.

Smack--

With a face full of fury, Edward tore the newspaper in half. Across from him, Margaret stayed silent.

The fallout had been brutal. MT Group's stocks plummeted, board members were livid, and the media?

Oh, they were just getting started.

"WHERE THE HELL IS SHE?" Edward growled.

"She hasn't come back since the party," Margaret replied calmly.

A muscle twitched in Edward's jaw. "Freeze all her credit cards. Strip her of every title in the company. And I want the cars, the apartments, EVERYTHING BLOCK!" His smile was venomous."LET HER LEARNS WHAT IT MEANS TO DEFY HER FATHER!"

Margaret didn't argue. She simply texted the order to the family's lawyer, her expression the picture of poised regret.

To her, the downfall of the spoiled princess was a long-awaited pleasure.

Outsiders still saw her as a refined, gracious stepmother.

But behind those perfectly manicured hands?

She was already celebrating.

***

Three days.

Cecilia had been holed up in her apartment for three days.

She wasn't surprised--she always knew the day would come when defying her father meant losing everything.

Which was why, a year ago, she'd bought this place--cash, under a shell company.

Cecilia Martin might be called many things--ruthless, petty, vindictive, arrogant--but unprepared?

Never.

The moment her mother died, the instant her father seized control and her stepmother crossed the threshold--that was when she'd begun weaving the web for this very day.

Knock-knock-knock--

The door creaked as someone knocked. Cecilia jolted upright.

Right! Her 'fiancé'.

She groaned, dragging herself upright just as the door swung open.

"I'm starving," a familiar voice said bluntly.

The thick, stale air inside made him step back slightly, as if surprised a human could survive in this dungeon-like atmosphere.

"There's Frozen Pizza, Sandwiches, Popcorn. Take your pick," Cecilia mumbled, pulling the blanket over her head like a retreating soldier.

He strode forward and yanked the blanket off her. His expression was flat. "I never eat microwave food."

"Then make me one. Thanks."

Liam said nothing. Instead, he walked to the window and yanked the heavy curtains wide open.

Sunlight exploded into the room.

Cecilia hissed, throwing an arm over her eyes. "What are you doing?"

Then she blinked--They made eye contact and she froze.. For the first time, she truly looked at the stranger she'd impulsively declared as her fiancé.

Backlit by golden morning light, Liam was... unfair. All sharp angles and lazy grace, one shoulder propped against the wall.

But it was his eyes that pinned her--dark, amused, knowing.

Her throat went dry.

Damn him.

Cecilia shrank back, caught off guard, trying to escape his ridiculous flirtatious energy.

"We need to talk," she muttered, coughing awkwardly.

Liam didn't budge. Instead, he settled onto the edge of the bed, his gaze locked onto hers with unnerving amusement.

"This is my apartment," she said pointedly.

"I'm not after your assets."

"I meant--you can leave now."

"We're engaged," he stated plainly.

"It was just a show!" Cecilia scoffed.

A beat of silence.

Then--like a switch flipping--the warmth in Liam's eyes vanished. His jaw tightened, the shift so sudden it prickled the air between them.

"You're saying you're backing out?"

Oh shit!

This wasn't some luxury penthouse.

The apartment had bargain-bin insulation, a security system that'd lose to a determined raccoon, and neighbors who'd probably mistake her corpse smell for expired takeout.

If this man decided to snap and rape her to death tonight?

She could already write the headline, "Socialite, Cecilia Martin, Vanishes in Shithole Apartment--Police Assume Drug Overdose."

She suddenly felt a little nervous.

"Scared?" Liam's smile returned, all charm--but his eyes stayed cold.

"I'm just being honest," she snapped. "The engagement was for show. The scene's over."

"Not quite." He rose to his full height, looming over her with dangerous amusement still dancing in his gaze. "There's still Act Two."

"...What?"

Liam pulled out his phone, flipped open his calendar with deliberate slowness, and tapped a highlighted entry.

"My wedding's today." A beat. "And I'm missing a bride."

"..."

She pressed closer, her actions growing bolder. Just tasting wasn’t enough; she opened her mouth and bit down. But no matter how she tried, she couldn’t quite take a bite.Lost in a hazy dream, her body moved on pure instinct, determined to devour this “pie” by any means necessary.Meanwhile, the “apple pie” in question—Liam—jolted awake. Liam strolled back with an easy air, as if the earlier confrontation had never left a trace. He casually wiped his hands, pushed the menu toward Cecilia, and said in a calm, unhurried tone, “Order whatever you want.”Cecilia’s eyes widened, her chest about to burst with frustration. How can he think about food at a time like this?!She lowered her voice, unable to hide the urgency trembling through it. “That family isn’t one you can afford to cross.”At least she had her family behind her, enough to stand her ground verbally. But Liam had nothing—how could he dare to act that way?Liam only gave a faint smile, his voice warm yet laced with unshakable confidence. “I’m not someone to mess with either.”Cecilia froze, lips parting, but for once she had no retort.Liam shifted his gaze, glancing at the pale-faced manager who was still rooted to the spot. His brows lifted slightly as he spoke with quiet politeness, “Sorry for the disturbance. Tonight’s bill will be covered by our table.

Elva let out a cold laugh, turning slowly as her lips curved with icy disdain.“Oh? Wasn’t he the one you were desperate to have? What’s wrong now—regretting it?”Gia’s body trembled, her face draining of color. She forced herself to speak, her voice choked, eyes reddening with unshed tears.“I know I was wrong! He’s insane!” Her voice quivered, tears glittering as she pleaded. “But you know this, Elva—if I cross Ronald, no one can save me. The only one powerful enough to stand against DV Group… is SCA. Please, help me.”Elva’s gaze sharpened, her eyes locking coldly on Gia.“So, what you really want… is for me to pull strings and get you into SCA?”Gia dropped her gaze, guilt flashing as her fingers twisted tightly into the hem of her blouse. Her voice was barely a whisper.“I have no other choice… I can only beg you.”The last shred of pride shattered. She suddenly bent forward and fell heavily to her knees. The arrogance she once flaunted was completely gone.“Please! I swear I’ll

Half an hour later—Click. The bathroom door finally opened.Cecilia instinctively looked up, guilt flashing across her eyes.Liam stepped out with nothing but a towel slung low around his waist, droplets of water running down his chiseled chest and the hard ridges of his abs.His expression was unreadable, as if nothing had happened. He walked past her without a glance and sat on the far side of the couch. The air grew heavy, charged with something sharp and suffocating, as if the tension itself could snap at any second. And then—Grrrrrrowwl—A loud rumble from her stomach shattered the silence.Cecilia froze, her face flaming red. She clutched her belly as if she could shove the sound back inside.Clearly, it was too late.Liam rose slowly, his gaze cutting down toward her stiff posture. His voice was deep, steady. “Hungry?”She hesitated for a beat, then gave up the act, shoulders slumping. “...Yeah.”“What do you want?” His tone didn’t waver. Her eyes lit up instantly, the embarr

That night, on the south side of the city.By the fountain in front of Cecilia’s apartment building. The screech of brakes tore through the quiet night. Liam slammed his foot down, the car jolting to a stop as the tires left a dark skid across the pavement. His eyes locked instantly on the figure by the fountain.Ronald.Sitting in a wheelchair, clutching a bouquet of vivid red roses, as if cheap theatrics could pass for devotion. His intentions couldn’t have been more obvious.Liam’s gaze hardened, a flicker of relief flashing beneath the ice—thank God he’d come to pick something up for Cecilia. If she had been the one to run into this shameless bastard, Liam was certain he wouldn’t have stopped here to talk. He would’ve simply ordered a sniper to erase him.The car door swung open, and Liam’s tall frame cut through the night as he strode forward, each step sharp and deliberate.Ronald froze. He hadn’t expected to face Liam here, not like this. The afternoon heat pressed down, even within the sterile, air-conditioned hospital. The mix of antiseptic and stifling air was suffocating.Inside the ICU lounge, Ronald slouched on the sofa, lazily flipping through a tabloid a nurse had dropped off earlier. A low, mocking chuckle slipped from his throat.“What a shame.”He’d expected SCA’s PR team to react quickly, but he hadn’t imagined they’d wipe the scandal clean within half an hour. A day’s worth of planning, his carefully prepared “gift,” had been erased in an instant. From the hallway came the sharp, frantic click of heels, echoing closer and closer. Then—slam—the door burst open.Gia rushed inside, her face pale, her expression frantic.Ronald barely lifted his gaze before dropping it back to the magazine, his voice cool and dismissive.“What happened now?”Her chest rose and fell as she struggled to catch her breath, her words trembling.“Cecilia’s grandfather… he left a secret will!”The page froze mid-turn.
