Chapter Four: Do you perhaps try committing suicide?

Instantly, Four figures came into the room. Two policemen and a middle-aged couple.

As soon as the woman who came with the police officers saw Kathie, she gave out a massive smile and hustled toward her with joy. However, Kathie noticed that the smile wasn't genuine.

" Oh my sweet Ashley, how have you been? I'm sorry that we left you that night " the woman apologized and embraced her tightly.

Kathie froze. She wasn't customary to this type of family thing. How was she expected to harmonize fine with people she doesn't even know just because she got their daughter's face?

She doesn't even have a parent. They are all mistaken. She wasn't their precious ASHLEY everyone thought she was. Why did God punish her by putting her in this weak, fragile body that must have been over-cherished by her parents?

She doesn't want a parent that is too clingy. It looks childish.

'But hold on a sec, what's with that impostor smile that old woman put on just now?' Kathie asked inwardly, " I need to be careful of her from now on"

" I know you are not happy seeing me right now but we are deeply sorry for leaving you alone that night" The woman tightened the hug even more.

Kathie opened her mouth to say something but didn't know how to address this woman. This woman wasn't her mom. Her mother died twenty-three years ago.

Nevertheless, she must play along so as not to get caught. She can't afford to start explaining to the world what happened to her because she… has no idea what happened herself.

" Mom, I am…short of air," Kathie whispered. Veins could be seen popping out of her face meaning that if wasn't released from the hug, she might suffocate to death.

" Am sorry dear" The woman unrestricted her hold on her but the smile was still plastered on her face.

" Woman please excuse us, we need to ask your daughter a few questions," one of the police said, trying to earn their attention.

" Sorry officer, you can go ahead" The woman shifted to the side, giving the officers space to do whatever they wanted to do.

The officer first cleared his throat, sat properly on the bed beside the doctor, and looked deeply into Kathie's eyes.

" Please miss, can you notify us what happened to you that night or do you perhaps try committing suicide?"

At the question, Kathie went into deep thought. She couldn't recollect anything about the owner of the body her soul resided in. It was as if everything was wiped off and what was left was her's only.

Her memories were in full charge of the body. But from the stories she had read when the MC transmigrates into another person's body, he or she always has both memories of his own and the body. So why was her own different?

Or maybe this was real life.

The only thing she got by heart was waking up in a body that was being murdered by someone.

" I don't think I can remember what happened that night. I think I have lost my memory" Kathie lied while holding her head as if, suffering from a serious headache.

Doctor Emily nodded her head in concurrence." Yes. I think it was because she faced a lot of trauma during the attack which is why she can't remember anything. She doesn't even remember her appearance, " the doctor added with a surprised look.

The policemen both nodded before jotting down what the doctor said. After jotting everything down, the officers raised their faces again, and one of them brought out a picture of two guys putting on a prison uniform and said.

" Am sure you must have heard about the guys that saved you. Do you by any chance remember their faces as part of the people that attacked you?"

Kathie had pondered hard about this question even before she was even asked about it. How was she to remember whether the prisoners were the people who attacked her when she didn't even have a single memory of the owner of the body?

She was only a stranger here and would soon leave this body.

To the question, what Kathie wanted the most for the prisoners was for them to rot in jail forever denying her the best thing she ever wished for herself…death.

Nonetheless, what they did was good. They were only making an effort to save a life nothing else. If that was actually what happened, maybe she deserves a second chance. After all a second chance would be enough to have her revenge.

After thinking of what to say, Kathie decides to bring the prisoners out of jail. Maybe they had helped her find a purpose in this new boring life given to her.

" I don't think they did anything wrong. They were only trying to save a life"

" How sure are you?" The second police officer didn't wait before he fired another question at her.

" At least, if I didn't remember anything, I remembered seeing them running towards me when I was losing consciousness"

Tisha fibbed again only just to save the guys. She had completely blanked out when she was discovered in the forest.

"Okay then" the policemen stood up, " We are done here. We should be going but if you remember anything please contact us immediately," they said to Kathie who was still lying on the bed, and wrote their number on a piece of paper before dropping it on Kathie's bed.

" Sure"

" Bye"

After the officers were gone, the mother came closer to Kathie again to show her motherly care which Kathie still found fake.

She arranged Tisha's bed properly before covering her with a blanket.

As soon as she saw Doctor Emily leaving, she sprinted towards the doctor and asked, " So when are you planning to release her?"

" You mean your daughter?"

" Huh?" The woman pretended not to hear what the doctor said even though she heard it properly.

" Is she not your daughter?" Doctor Emily has been noticing how unnatural she has been. Especially how different she sounds when talking to the lady she called her daughter.

When the woman saw that she was about to get caught, immediately contrived a smile, " Of course, she is my daughter"

" Okay then. She will be discharged next week" the doctor said and left while looking at the woman with a confused expression.

She wasn't yet convinced.
