“No!” I firmly disagree after my parents said that I needed to marry into a family that supports our clan. The whole Azaria clan decided this without even asking my opinion regarding the matter to strengthen their connection to that family, and to be honest, it is not really unexpected.
But things are a little different now, and I will not just agree to tie myself to some dude I don’t even know.
“I know what you are trying to say,” I said. “It is my responsibility to do my duty as part of our family. But please forgive me because this is one thing that I cannot do. At least, not yet.”
The Kingdom of Hexoria is what our country is called.
It is just a small country that was surrounded by huge waves coming from the southern part of the Pacific Ocean.
A lot of big countries invaded this land for almost a hundred years until it finally got its independence. And since then, it has been governed by my clan, the Azarias, right from the leadership of my great-grandfather, who was the first king of this country.
One of the cultures that we adopted from our ancestors is that the woman in our family is treated as weak, fragile, and doesn’t have special skills that will help the government. So, our only role here is to marry into a family.
Our voice in the family is not given any importance by the council, and we are being underestimated by the people around us.
And one of the traditions in our family is that a princess like me is just a tool to gather additional allies that will support them using a marriage.
They made us think that the only thing that we could do to help our family maintain its influence around the country was to marry the man of their choice.
So, arranged marriage is common for us. But I never agreed to that kind of settlement.
For me, two people should love each other first before entering a relationship. And they should understand each other before they enter the lifelong commitment called marriage.
This is not just a political way to seal the union of two families. Marriage is more sacred and shouldn’t be rushed.
Besides, I don’t agree that this country is still underestimating women, despite other countries finally being given the recognition that women are equal to men.
I took a deep breath and looked straight into my father’s eyes. “I didn’t choose to be part of this family, but I am grateful that you are my parents,” I stated. “And I know that I haven’t made you proud since I haven’t done anything in my life. But…” I took a deep breath again. “...entering a marriage without love is contrary to my opinion. I still believed that we should at least be given time to meet and get to know each other.”
“Did you forget that your mother and I didn’t love each other when we got married?” my father asked. “But when we started our marriage, we slowly got to know each other, and that developed our love for each other.”
“But not everyone is as lucky as you are,” I rebutted. “Cloven and Allucia also entered into an arranged marriage, right? And they both admit that despite being together for years, they still haven’t made themselves love each other. And now, they are starting to consider getting a divorce rather than making each other suffer even more.”
“But, child…”
I sighed. “I am not saying that I will turn my back on my responsibility as one of the princesses of this country,” I said before my mother could continue what she was going to say. “I just want you to give me the same freedom that you have to Miracle.”
“What?”
“I want to become independent,” I firmly said. “I want to live as a normal citizen outside the palace so I can learn how to stand up for myself. I want to be like Miracle, who manages to prove that we, the women of the Azaria Clan, are not just a tool for a political purpose. I want to become a good and reliable princess of this country. Without anyone controlling me.”
They didn’t say anything. Dad was just silently staring at me as if he was thinking of something, while Mom was just waiting for his decision.
“Tell me, Clea Mair,” Dad broke his silence. “If you manage to do what you are saying and you prove that you are a good and reliable princess of this country, are you going to ask for your claim to inherit the throne?”
I immediately shook my head to deny his suspicion. “I never even thought of competing for the throne, Dad,” I said. “I just want to open your eyes that women in this era shouldn't be looked down on by anyone. I want to prove that the strength, intelligence, and strategy in life that you can see in a man, you will also be able to see in any woman.”
He became silent again.
I know that what I am trying to do is not acceptable with our clan’s beliefs, but if I continue to stay silent in this matter, nothing will change. They will always control my life, and women will not be able to prove their worth to this country.
My father sighed. “If that is the case, then I will let you do what you want.”
My eyes widened because of his decision. “R-really?”
He nodded. “It looks like you already made up your mind and you will not stop until you get what you want,” he said. “So, it is better to just agree rather than make you mad at me.”
I actually expected that it would be a long discussion since this topic is sensitive to our clan. Especially now that they are trying to marry me off to someone.
I guess it was the right decision for me to tell them everything I wanted so we could discuss it as soon as possible.
“You are allowed to go out of the palace and live as a normal citizen,” he added. “I can support you with your house, but you have to find your job to support your other expenses, such as food and bills, since you want to become independent.”
“Doesn’t that go too much—”
“Don’t worry, mother.” I smiled. “That is more than enough for me.”
“I also want to make it clear to you that you are not allowed to use any privilege you have as part of the royal family,” Dad said. "Aside from emergency purposes, like when your life is in danger. Are we clear on that?”
I nodded. “You can count on me.”
He smiled and stood up. “Then, you are free to go, my young child. Accept the freedom that I am giving to you,” he said. “And I will always pray for you to get everything you want to prove something for yourself.”
Clea Mair’s POVI slowly opened my eyes and I didn’t expect what I saw at first.I thought those people who kidnapped me would bring me somewhere that I was not familiar with after abducting me from my office. But I woke up in my own room, lying in my bed.I got up and massaged my head.It still hurts, like it bumped into something. And I was still a little bit dizzy, probably because of the effect of the chemical they used to knock me off.Damn! Just who the hell did that to me?I was about to get out of bed when the door opened and my eyes widened as I saw Andrel coming in with a tray of food in his hand.“Andrel?”He smiled and put the tray on my side table, then he sat beside me. “How are you?”“W-what happened?” I asked instead of answering his question. “I mean, someone kidnapped me, right?”He nodded.“And?” I took my phone and saw that it all happened yesterday. “You managed to rescue me?” I looked at him again. He nodded again. “Thanks to you, and with a little help from my c
Andrel Raven’s POV“Boss!” Leon, together with Asahina, entered my office. They were holding one of my men who was assigned to guard Clea while we were not together. He had bruises and wounds in his body and he was weakened by some sort of chemicals. They put him on the sofa and called our company doctor.“What the hell happened?” I checked his condition. His wounds are deep but not enough to be lethal. Whoever did this intentionally left him alive so he could report to me!He grabbed my arm. “B-boss…” He took a deep breath. “S-someone took her. Someone took Miss Clea.”My eyes widened. “What?”We just got back from Yain City and this is what we are going to deal with? Am I too late to control the situation regarding the rumors circulating about me and Clea?Did I put her in trouble?Damn it!I know that this situation is not impossible in the line of my work. Sooner or later, we are destined to face this trouble. But I thought I had already taken all necessary precautions to avoid ge
Clea Mair’s POVHave you heard the latest rumor?” I turned to Lenon when he entered my office.Andrel and I just got back from Yain City. He dropped me off here in the office because I had a lot of things to do today while he went straight to his company. And this is what my secretary greeted me early in the morning. A rumor going around the city is what we are having for breakfast.“What is it?”He put all the papers he was holding on my table and sat in front of me. “The famous CEO of Henan A.R. Lines, Mister Andrel Raven Henan, is finally settling down.”I frowned. “What? What do you mean?”He seems thrilled about the news that he just got.Andrel has a lot of admirers in and out of the country. He was like a celebrity and people have always been intrigued about his life. They have been following every news story about his life which is why he is known quite a bit playboy back then.He had a couple of relationships but nothing had come to the next level. He was treated like a walki
Andrel Raven’s POV“Boss…” Leon called me as soon as I got out of the room where Clea was sleeping. “We already prepared everything.”I nodded and went out of the penthouse. He followed me until we reached my car which was parked in front of the hotel. We hopped in and Quiel, one of my men, drove the car toward our destination.“We already informed Rioghail about the situation, Boss,” Quiel said without taking his eyes off the road. “But they only send Dashyu to observe.”I couldn’t help but massage my temple when I heard that name. “Just him?”He nodded. “He was the only one they sent if there was a problem that needed to be taken care of in this city since he mostly stayed here.”Rioghail is a big group yet Jyn chose to send that person to observe the interrogation that we are going to do to everyone who dares to make trouble in this city.Rioghail and my group are not friends. As much as possible, we would like to mind our own business and not be involved with each other. But when
Clea Mair’s POVI enjoyed hanging out with Maya and Cheya. Even though most of the places that we visited involved food. They have a petite body yet they are heavy eaters. I don’t know where they are putting what they eat because they are completely unstoppable. We visited a lot of shops that we saw, ordered most of the food that they had on their menu, and some of it was only finished by the twins.I felt so full and I didn’t think I could eat more so I just told them to walk around the Times Square plaza for a while to rest our stomachs. We just talked about some random things until we turned our topic to how they met Andrel.“Andrel was our brother’s best buddy when he started venturing into this city,” Maya said.We sat on a bench in front of the big fountain while the twins were eating ice cream.“And we got introduced to each other when he launched his first business here,” she added.“We were actually scared of him when we first met him,” Cheya stated.I frowned. “Because of hi
Clea Mair’s POVJust like what the twins planned, we visited food parks around the area since we only had limited time for the day, and we had so much fun trying every new dish we saw in each stall there. Some of the stalls agreed to share their recipe for their dish which surely consumed most of my time when I got back to my apartment. When we got full, the twins decided to go straight to SweetHeart for desserts. We took out going to the bar in our plan because we only had a few hours before going back to the hotel.“Woah!” Cheya was amazed when we got inside the shop. There were only a few customers, maybe because it was still office and school hours. But I didn’t expect to see Asper Dahlia here.Well, I know that she owned the place but Miracle once mentioned that she rarely stays here. She silently sat at the counter while folding some napkins while her staff immediately stood up to take care of Cheya and Maya.I hesitated to go there but I guess it was already too late. She knows
Clea Mair’s POVI immediately got up when I realized that the sun was already set and in just a couple of minutes, the sky was already dark.I am still here in the garden and I didn’t notice that I fell asleep here. And it looks like I got a deep sleep because I didn’t even get up to have lunch. It
Clea Mair’s Pov“So?” I raised my eyebrows at Miracle as soon as she got inside the house that she was renting. She handed me the key to this house and let me go home first before her since she was still busy with her work at SweetHeart and I had been waiting for her in the living room to confront
Clea Mair’s Pov“Nice to meet you, Mister Andrel Henan.” I offered my hand in front of him. “Thank you for letting this meeting happen despite your sudden change of schedule.”To be honest, they could have canceled this meeting, but they still put a lot of effort into bringing me here just for us t
Clea Mair’s PovGeez!I can’t believe this! It is not usual for me to oversleep, especially when I have to attend an important meeting.Seriously, Clea Mair?I prepared so much for all the materials that I will be using for this meeting, because this is a crucial moment for JFCC, yet I am going to
