“No!” I firmly disagree after my parents said that I needed to marry into a family that supports our clan. The whole Azaria clan decided this without even asking my opinion regarding the matter to strengthen their connection to that family, and to be honest, it is not really unexpected.

But things are a little different now, and I will not just agree to tie myself to some dude I don’t even know.

“I know what you are trying to say,” I said. “It is my responsibility to do my duty as part of our family. But please forgive me because this is one thing that I cannot do. At least, not yet.”

The Kingdom of Hexoria is what our country is called.

It is just a small country that was surrounded by huge waves coming from the southern part of the Pacific Ocean.

A lot of big countries invaded this land for almost a hundred years until it finally got its independence. And since then, it has been governed by my clan, the Azarias, right from the leadership of my great-grandfather, who was the first king of this country.

One of the cultures that we adopted from our ancestors is that the woman in our family is treated as weak, fragile, and doesn’t have special skills that will help the government. So, our only role here is to marry into a family.

Our voice in the family is not given any importance by the council, and we are being underestimated by the people around us.

And one of the traditions in our family is that a princess like me is just a tool to gather additional allies that will support them using a marriage.

They made us think that the only thing that we could do to help our family maintain its influence around the country was to marry the man of their choice.

So, arranged marriage is common for us. But I never agreed to that kind of settlement.

For me, two people should love each other first before entering a relationship. And they should understand each other before they enter the lifelong commitment called marriage.

This is not just a political way to seal the union of two families. Marriage is more sacred and shouldn’t be rushed.

Besides, I don’t agree that this country is still underestimating women, despite other countries finally being given the recognition that women are equal to men.

I took a deep breath and looked straight into my father’s eyes. “I didn’t choose to be part of this family, but I am grateful that you are my parents,” I stated. “And I know that I haven’t made you proud since I haven’t done anything in my life. But…” I took a deep breath again. “...entering a marriage without love is contrary to my opinion. I still believed that we should at least be given time to meet and get to know each other.”

“Did you forget that your mother and I didn’t love each other when we got married?” my father asked. “But when we started our marriage, we slowly got to know each other, and that developed our love for each other.”

“But not everyone is as lucky as you are,” I rebutted. “Cloven and Allucia also entered into an arranged marriage, right? And they both admit that despite being together for years, they still haven’t made themselves love each other. And now, they are starting to consider getting a divorce rather than making each other suffer even more.”

“But, child…”

I sighed. “I am not saying that I will turn my back on my responsibility as one of the princesses of this country,” I said before my mother could continue what she was going to say. “I just want you to give me the same freedom that you have to Miracle.”

“What?”

“I want to become independent,” I firmly said. “I want to live as a normal citizen outside the palace so I can learn how to stand up for myself. I want to be like Miracle, who manages to prove that we, the women of the Azaria Clan, are not just a tool for a political purpose. I want to become a good and reliable princess of this country. Without anyone controlling me.”

They didn’t say anything. Dad was just silently staring at me as if he was thinking of something, while Mom was just waiting for his decision.

“Tell me, Clea Mair,” Dad broke his silence. “If you manage to do what you are saying and you prove that you are a good and reliable princess of this country, are you going to ask for your claim to inherit the throne?”

I immediately shook my head to deny his suspicion. “I never even thought of competing for the throne, Dad,” I said. “I just want to open your eyes that women in this era shouldn't be looked down on by anyone. I want to prove that the strength, intelligence, and strategy in life that you can see in a man, you will also be able to see in any woman.”

He became silent again.

I know that what I am trying to do is not acceptable with our clan’s beliefs, but if I continue to stay silent in this matter, nothing will change. They will always control my life, and women will not be able to prove their worth to this country.

My father sighed. “If that is the case, then I will let you do what you want.”

My eyes widened because of his decision. “R-really?”

He nodded. “It looks like you already made up your mind and you will not stop until you get what you want,” he said. “So, it is better to just agree rather than make you mad at me.”

I actually expected that it would be a long discussion since this topic is sensitive to our clan. Especially now that they are trying to marry me off to someone.

I guess it was the right decision for me to tell them everything I wanted so we could discuss it as soon as possible.

“You are allowed to go out of the palace and live as a normal citizen,” he added. “I can support you with your house, but you have to find your job to support your other expenses, such as food and bills, since you want to become independent.”

“Doesn’t that go too much—”

“Don’t worry, mother.” I smiled. “That is more than enough for me.”

“I also want to make it clear to you that you are not allowed to use any privilege you have as part of the royal family,” Dad said. "Aside from emergency purposes, like when your life is in danger. Are we clear on that?”

I nodded. “You can count on me.”

He smiled and stood up. “Then, you are free to go, my young child. Accept the freedom that I am giving to you,” he said. “And I will always pray for you to get everything you want to prove something for yourself.”

Clea Mair’s POVJust like what the twins planned, we visited food parks around the area since we only had limited time for the day, and we had so much fun trying every new dish we saw in each stall there. Some of the stalls agreed to share their recipe for their dish which surely consumed most of my time when I got back to my apartment. When we got full, the twins decided to go straight to SweetHeart for desserts. We took out going to the bar in our plan because we only had a few hours before going back to the hotel.“Woah!” Cheya was amazed when we got inside the shop. There were only a few customers, maybe because it was still office and school hours. But I didn’t expect to see Asper Dahlia here.Well, I know that she owned the place but Miracle once mentioned that she rarely stays here. She silently sat at the counter while folding some napkins while her staff immediately stood up to take care of Cheya and Maya.I hesitated to go there but I guess it was already too late. She knows

Clea Mair’s POV“Clea!” Cheya greeted me with a tight hug as soon as we arrived at the hotel where we were going to stay.Andrel mentioned that they had been at Yain City for the whole week. They are originally from Wilde City and they planned to relocate here because of some business opportunities. And now, they are already in the process of opening their very first owned bar.I also heard, that they work so hard for that and don't let their brother or any other family members help them because they want to stand on their own feet when it comes to business.“I missed you so much.” She sounded like a kid who hadn’t seen her mother in a very long time. “It is good that Andrel finally brought you here.” She let go of me. “Maya and I thought it would be a long time before you come back here.”“I heard you pestered Andrel just for him to take me back here,” I said and turned to Maya who was beside us. “You should have called me.”“We didn’t know your schedule so we were reluctant to conta

Clea Mair’s POVI got back from my normal routine since my parents didn’t want me to get involved with what was going to happen at the palace.Besides, I don’t have anything else to help with them.I don’t have any influence and it will also be hard for me to get Hector’s attention. He is so immature at this point so he might think that Miracle and I are ganging up on him. And it is not good with our plan. We might get results far different from what we expect so might as well, get out of their radar.I will just focus on my own life.“Are you free tonight?” Andrel asked as soon as I answered his call.“Hmm. I don’t have any plans to do after work hours,” I answered. “Do you want to hang out later?”“Pack some clothes for the whole weekend. I’ll pick you up later at your apartment.”I frowned. “Where are we going?” I asked. “Should I file for a leave?”He was silent for a couple of seconds and I just heard him sigh. “Cheya has been bothering me to bring you back to Yain City.”“Hmm?”

Clea Mair’s POVDad started changing the succession law in our country. Fortunately, most of the members of the House of Lords were in favor of these new changes, which is why the process didn’t face any challenges. When they finally changed that certain law, Dad immediately announced that Miracle was given a chance to prove herself to the country to become the better heir.Of course, a lot of people have a negative reaction to this. Most of them were part of our clan since they didn’t really agree on handing that kind of power to a woman, even if it was Miracle who had already proved a lot of things without the help of anyone.Other ministers were also against it but only those part of the faction that sided with Hector. But a huge part of the House of Ministry is still in favor because they truly support what my father wants for this country. And because of these events, Mom advised me not to go to the palace. It is better for me not to get caught up in this mess so that they can mo

Clea Mair’s POVI was too shocked to move as soon as I opened the door of my apartment because I was greeted by a warm and tight hug from Andrel. And because we are too close to each other, I can feel that his whole body is shaking. His heartbeat is faster than normal as if he ran a hundred miles before coming here. What the hell happened to him?Why do I feel like he was too scared to let go of me?“Andrel?” I caressed his back and he slowly loosened his embrace. “Is there something wrong?” He completely let go of me so I held his shoulder so I could see his face. And I can’t explain his expression. Mixed emotions were lingering in his eyes but I can only name one. Fear.“Hey…” I held his cheeks when he was about to avert his gaze away from me. “What is it? Why are you acting like this?”“N-nothing…”“He got scared.”We both turned our attention to Leon who was standing behind Andrel.“Leon!” Andrel shushed him.“We immediately reported to him that you went out of the apartment,” Leo

Clea Mair’s POVThe sudden closeness between Boss Jyn and Asper Dahlia gave Rajiv and Miracle a chance to clear everything with each other. Though they hadn’t gotten back together, they had a mutual understanding.I am sure that with Rajiv’s involvement in this issue, Miracle would agree to help with my parent's plan. That is why I proposed this idea.“But let’s be honest here, Dad…” We went to their office for further privacy since this issue is getting more serious. We cannot let others, even our relatives know about our plans. “You don’t really have an intention of giving Miracle the throne, right?”He sighed. “I do have the intention of giving her the throne but you know your sister, Clea. She would rather drop her title than lead this country as its queen.”“So, you will just open a path to the next woman heir and use this situation to gather everyone to your side without any intervention from your siblings who were also eyeing the throne.”Yeah, that is his real reason. We can’t
