No nurse had been sent to him from Doctor Hozel, so he kept wondering what was going on.A nurse hurried out of the ward, and Adam immediately jumped in front, blocking her way. "What is going on?" He queried. "I have not gotten any word..."The nurse looked at him, slightly confused, but she answered, "There is a slight complication, if you would excuse me, sir." She said, swiftly sidestepping around him and half-running down the hallway.A slight complication? Adam felt his legs turn to jelly. His knees gave out underneath him just as he neared the wall, and he collapsed against it, sliding to the floor. He was feeling dejected as he buried his face in his hands, and his mind thought of the worst things that could happen. What was a "slight complication?" He asked himself. Was Emily dying? Was their child dying? Or was Emily going to have some sort of long term effect of the head injury.
THE SURGERY WAS an emergency one, given the urgency of Emily's condition and the influence of Adam Levrone, so as soon as he was done signing it off, Emily was wheeled into the operating room and a troppo of doctors rushed in after her. They knew the severity and seriousness of the case if anything went wrong, so the hospital made sure only the top best doctors were assigned to the operation."Aren't you going to join them?" Adam asked as Hozel was still with him, going through the signed document.Hozel looked up, his eyebrow raised as he shook his head and said, "I am not a neurosurgeon. Your wife's cade needs the hands of specialists, and i can assure you, that is what she is getting."Adam nodded. His mind was slightly at ease."They are going to open up her skull," Doctor Hozel said. He pulled a makeshift dummy skeleton and laid it on his table, popping open the skull. "And then drain the fluid and blood clot in the brainbox."The demonstration was very graphic for Adam. He turne
THE WARD WAS silent and heavy. It had a constant but very quiet buzzing in the air, the type of buzzing sound that one would forget existed until the machines were turned off.And the machines themselves were very big and impressive looking. Adam had only seen them on TV shows and magazines. He could not believe that his wife was about to be taken into one of them."Doctor Hozel," a man in a white coat and plastic goggles over his face called. The doctor nodded and they both walked towards the man."I was waiting for you to get here before I began," The man said."Mr Levrone, this is Doctor Zachary, he will be carrying out the scans on your wife."Adam shook hands firmly with Zachary."I take it you already know what we are here to do," Zachary said as he gestured to his attendants to go and prep Emily to be rolled into the machine.Adam nodded, biting the quick of his fingers nervously."While we do not hope to find something bad," Zachary continued. "We have to be prepared for the w
THE LEVRONE PRIVATE jet landed in the states almost 13 hours later.Fot Adam, it had been 12 long hours of checking in on Emily every 30 minutes to see if she was getting better, but she was not. Instead, she had run a very high temperature, which Adam tried his best to regulate by mopping her head and neck with cold water. From fever, she began vomiting and then slept restlessly, often shivering and waking up with beads kf sweat dotting her forehead. When the plane touched down, Adam breathed a heavy sigh of relief. He had already made calls to make sure there was a medical team waiting for them at the airport private hanger. "Welcome back home, sir," the pilot's voice blated through the speaker. "Please wait for the seatbelt sign to stop flashing before -"But Adam was already on his feet and carrying Emily down the aisle. "Open the fucking door!" He yelled to one of the airhostesses who immediately obeyed. He carried Emily down the stairs to meet with the ambulance and medical eme
"MRS LEVRONE, CAN you hear me? Blink if you can hear me." "Emily..."Emily groaned and blinked slowly. Her vision was blurry and focused."Mrs Levrone, can you hear me?"She groaned and nodded, the action sent a wave of pain through her entire skull. She whimpered and sank back into the pillow."Easy, easy," the gentle voice said to her. "Keep your eyes closed, okay?" She obeyed, and kept her eyelids together."Mr Levrone, let's close the windows. She might be sensitive to light now."Adam hurriedly pressed a button on the remote controller and the shutters immediately fell, he pressed another button and the room went dark, only lit by some dim bulbs."You can open your eyes now,"Emily slowly opened her eyes. Her visionblurred a bit but then focused so she saw a local doctor bent over her. He was dressed in his white coat and had thick eyeglasses. He was peering into her face. "Do you feel any pain?" He asked. "Apart from your head..."She started to shake her head, but remembered t
EMILY SAT AT the beach, her toes sinking into the wet sand as she overlooked the horizon, watching the set of the deep golden sun. Her husband, Adam, sat beside her. He was lying in relaxation on the chair too, getting as tan as his dark skin would allow. As if he could feel Emily staring at him, he opened his eyes and looked up. A soft grin spread across his face. "Do you want to go in, Mrs Levrone?" He asked. It all still felt surreal to Emily. The fact that she was married was not something that she was getting used to, but Adam had made it a thing to call her by their surname, and it always made her smile. "Mrs Levrone..." she repeated under her breath. "I still have a hard time..."Adam got out of the chair easily for a man of his bulky size. He extended a hand and said, "Shall I go down on my knee and propose to you once more?" He asked. "Because i would."Emily grinned and shook her head. She slipped her hand into his hand and allowed herself to be pulled up and into his arms.
