Gemma noticed and asked, “What’s wrong, Mom?”

Tanner hesitated to explain, “Don’t move.”

For the sake of the child, Gemma quickly lay back down, but her eyes stayed fixed on Tanner’s face.

Tanner came over and pressed down on her, saying, “Don’t get worked up just yet; it might not be a bad thing.”

Gemma nodded.

Tanner continued, “Your uncle called. He said Brody was taken by someone who claimed they could save Brody’s life, so he didn’t stop them.”

“He also wanted to apologize to you.”

Gemma almost sat up, but Tanner held her down just in time.

“But what if they’re bad guys?”

Tanner said, “Blake has already gone to investigate. Since you want the child, you can only focus on yourself for now.”

“Also, you need to seriously consider your studies. The summer vacation is almost over.”

But Gemma couldn’t help but worry about Brody. “Mom, if there’s any news from Dad, you must tell me.”
