Elena’s POV

Days go by fast, and I spend most of the time locked in my room.

I still can’t get over the last selection as that was my first time actually witnessing it being carried out.

Each time I remember it, my anger is renewed and for this I have to deal with it by avoiding him so I don’t end up doing something that could cost me more.

I avoid him like the plague, making sure I break all rhythm we used to follow. I stay away from the dining hall if I know he’s in there and cry illness if ever calls for me.

In fact, I avoid leaving my room most of the time just so I don’t cross paths with him.

The message is clear. Distance.

And though it has been working for me so far, I can’t help but be scared that he will try to use his power against me soon enough.

I sit in front of my mirror, praying that day doesn’t come.

Just then, a soft knock comes on my door.

“Come in,”

The door pushes open and Bianca walks in, holding a tray of what I know as my dinner.
