Elena’s POV

Lukas doesn’t bother to knock on my door anymore. I noticed it a few nights after the night he came in to comfort me.

And I’m not sure how I feel about that.

The thought sweeps through me as I tighten my hand on the book in my hand.

As I lay in my bed, reading my book and praying for sleep to take its place, my door pushes open quietly and even without being told, I already know who it is.

Him.

The very one I was complaining to myself about not too long ago.

As soon as he enters, the air in my room suddenly shifts. But I know it’s not because of him.

It’s the way my body reacts before my mind can stop it. The thought of another unwanted presence sharing my space, the pull of the close proximity.

I hate it.

I quickly close my book and hide it under my pillow. Then I lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling and counting my breath with each step he takes closer.
