A WEEK AGO “I just want to have a little chat, Conan.” I drawl, assessing him. The atmosphere in the room is tense, and I can tell that beneath all those cocktail dresses and million dollar suits, lingers fear that made them want to shrink into their skins. Wolves have always been threatened by my kind; of what we are capable of and how dangerously unpredictably we can be. Conan is not an exception. He wears an expression of steel, doesn’t cower beneath my gaze, but when you have been dealing with all sort of monsters, you learn that even monsters have their tell. My lips twitch in a smirk. “Don’t worry. You can take some of your little guards with you.” I offer him a false safety net. If I wanted to rip his head off his neck, not even the guards in this room can stop me. He knows that. I know that. “I don’t need anyone accompanying me. I can take you.” I grin, my eyes scanning the room. He didn’t have to beckon me. When he turns around, I go after him into somewhere more secluded. “Nice spot,” I lean against the wall of the hallway, staring at him with utter amusement. “I’m not scared of you.” His efforts to reassert his lack of fear for me is doing exactly the opposite of what he intends. “What do you want from me, Malakai?” “Maybe I just stopped by to say hi at your party.” I shrug, eliciting a scoff from him. “Lycans do not get invited to your little wolf parties. Not fair.” “No one has seen your kind in decades,” he says with a grimace, wearing unmistakable disgust on his face. But I’ll be damned if I let that deter me. “Maybe we were just waiting for the right time to crawl out of our hideouts.” “Why don’t you crawl back into whatever hole you came from?” “What if I have an offer?” He turns around, walking away. “I’m not interested in your offer, Malakai. Leave my party.” “I want a truce.” He halts in his tracks. His icy blue gaze rests on me, a little surprised. “A truce?” I smirk. “I think it’s high time we put aside our petty grievances and call a truce. Don’t you think?” “I’d rather die than call a truce with an abomination like you.” Lycans are considered perversions of nature, an upsetting balance of the natural order. We are stronger. We are faster. We are better. We are the apex predators of the apex predators. He’s so predictable. It amuses me. When I was coming here, I didn’t think he’d agree easily. Alpha Conan Farrow isn’t malleable or atleast, that’s what he wants everyone to think. “You haven’t even heard my offer.” “I don’t care.” “Oh, come on, Conan.” I snort. “Why don’t we skip the part where you pretend like you don’t give a shit about what I’m offering, when all you have thought about is what I have to offer the second I set foot in your party?” Conan Farrow will make a deal with death himself as long as it serves him. Well, he should thank the goddess because the devil has delivered himself right on his doorstep. He pinches his nose in frustration. “What is it?” “You haven’t seen my kind in years because my Pack and I are not from around here. We migrated from Norway about a few years back. You know—there’s better food, better women, better music—“ “Get to the point.” I grin. “Gladly,” “We just want peace with the wolves. All this tension, all this hate, let it end.” His lips curl in a sadistic smirk as he approaches me. “What if I say no? I could kill you right here.” “Don’t be stupid, old chap.” His gaze hardens. “I could say no.” “But you won’t.” I flash him a twisted smile. “You want to be supreme Alpha. You can exactly do that with your debt profile and bad investments now, can you?” “How dare you?” “Relax,” I brush off non-existent dirt on his shoulders. “You want power. I have the means to give it to you. All I ask is acceptance, at most, a truce to foster a relationship between my kind and yours. I just need to be able to get my shit done without your kind digging into it.” “I don’t trust you,” he says coldly. “I don’t need you to.” It’s swift, but I can catch the interest that flares in his gaze. “A little birdie once told me about your daughter’s engagement to Zane Van Doren.” “What about it?” “What if she marries me instead?”CataleyaA soft whimper eludes from me as my eyes slowly fluttered open. The side of my head throbs with a dull ache, but the more conscious I get, the harder the pain hits.My fingers curl around the side of my head, and I gasp seeing the blood that smears them.I try to remember what happened or how I got injured but nothing comes to mind.Something is not right. Ember whimpers. I’m a little stunned because she has been so quiet these days. Ember and I have a strained relationship. She barely communicates with me, majorly because of her grudge against the man I chose as my mate.Seth.The thought of his name provokes me to reality. My breath hitches as the memories flood my mind. I couldn’t reach Seth. I snuck away from the Pack to see him at the Cabin, only to find him with Alison. A low sob punches its way through my mouth as the weight of his betrayal descends on him.I was such a fool.I loved him with all my heart, but the whole time he had been stabbing me in the back by sleep
CataleyaI gaze into the distance, watching the Farrow property that spreads beyond the compound. My mind drifts to Seth. I haven’t seen him since the night of the party, and I can’t exactly go up to Beta Hanson to ask him the whereabouts of his son.It will trigger suspicion. My eyes flicker from the window where I’m sitting when the door to my room opens. It reveals one of the maids with a steaming cup of tea that I’m now achingly familiar with.“Good evening, Heiress.” She mumbles stiffly, approaching me. “The Luna says I must see to it that you take your tea for the night.”I hate the herbs that are often brewed together and brought to me every night.Mother says it aids to wash out my womb, and prep it for swift conceiving. An old recipe of her late Mother, it seems.“I don’t want it.” I mumble dryly.“But—“My harsh stare cuts her off, then my eyes slowly devours her appearance. She’s wearing a hideous black dress, her dark hair neatly tucked in a plain cap. I can see her, but s
Cataleya“You are not wearing your ring.” Zane frowns, ignoring the comment my father just made.My heart skips. “I…uh—““Is this how you parade my wife in front of other men without letting them know she’s taken?” Zane asks icily.“That’s not true,” I chip in quickly.“Do not interrupt me, love.” He counters me condescendingly without sparing me a glance. My mother looks nervous but she maintains the signature good wife smile on her face. “I’m sure everyone knows she’s engaged to you by now, Zane.”“I’m sorry,” I rush the words out. This is a dinner from hell. I have barely had any meal yet I feel so full from the contempt crawls beneath my skin and the tension that hangs thickly in the atmosphere.“It won’t happen again.”“Good,” he murmurs. “Now, we can eat.”“I did mention that there’s something we need to discuss.” Father interrupts him.“My apologies, Conan.” Zane flashes him a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. “You do understand why I’m a little uncomfortable about her hiding
Cataleya Conan Farrow is cold, strategic and ruthless. He’ll do whatever he has to do to get what he wants. More often than not, I have heard him tell Calix that the only way to maintain your grasp on power is to do whatever it takes to keep it. But then, deep down, I believed that there was a limit to my father’s desperation for more power and wealth. Calling off my engagement to Zane Van Doren was a harsh reminder of how my father was willing to give up his soul to the devil. When he first imposed the engagement on me, I spent the larger part of my life since then, prepping to become Zane’s Luna. I had to act in the way an Alpha would want. I had to look a certain way. I had to preserve my innocence because according to my father’s conservative traditions, the only man who had the right to get between my legs was my husband. And for months, it was carved and beaten into me that, that man was Zane. My hatred for him meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. I believed th

Cataleya“I'm telling you, Alison. It's unlike him.” I whine to Alison, my best friend, shutting the book lying on my lap. I fiddle with my fingers, my lips twisting in a grimace as I look into the distance. It's past sunset, and the clouds have taken a shade of dark grey. They cast an eerie shadow over the Farrow property. My room overlooks the giant water fountain standing gracefully in the enormous compound of the vintage building.“Cat, breathe.” Alison says dryly. The lack of concern in her tone causes me to look over my shoulder swiftly. The redhead is sitting on the beige couch in my ivory and beige vintage-themed room. One of the straps of her tiny black dress is falling over her shoulders where she's seated. Her slender body is pressed to her knees as she applies an extra coat of polish on her red nails. With her flaming red hair and beautiful soft curves that she rarely keeps hidden in her choice of clothes, Alison's brazen appearance and personality contrasts my tamed, e
