LOGINIt has been a week since I arrived at Bridgeford high, I've tried to avoid danger best I can. Daphne gives me survival tips everyday, while Phoebe tries to make me seduce my professor.
I just left the dining room after having breakfast, the halls were buzzing with people here and there. I kept walking until I heard a scream and watched as people gathered around a particular spot.
I rushed to the scene, trying to push through the crowd. Due to my frame, I was pushed every which way until I somehow made it to the front and stood my ground. I pushed in a little and found two people fighting, Rapheal and another guy.
Raphael is on top the guy and he lands another punch across the guy’s jaw drawing blood.
“Raph stop!” Jenna cried trying to pull him off but he ignored her, drew his hand back and landed another heavy punch. This time I hear a sound like bone cracking and I'm forced to look away.
“What's going on here!” The headmistress’ voice thundered and we scattered like flies, leaving Raphael, Jenna and the badly beaten boy.
“My office, now” she eyed them before walking away. Rapheal gets up from the guy and runs his bloody fist through his black hair.
I stare at him and as if feeling my gaze, his eyes shift in my direction, and as they meet mine, I give him a disgusted look, the type he would normally give me.
I begin to walk to my class for the day. As I enter inside, Mr Alister is already there and is about to start, I give him a curt nod before walking to my seat. I felt the gaze watching me, I was getting used to it but I had no idea who it was.
“Lucian, please read the text to the class” Mr Alister said and Lucian who is sitting in the front stands grabbing his textbook. His neck chains clink against each other and he makes his way to the front of the class.
I watched the hot boy flip through the pages of the textbook, rumors had it, he was the top student of our set. He looked like a typical bad-boy and today he was wearing a leather jacket over his uniform.
“The people of ancient times became afraid of the monsters and devised ways to get rid of them, soon they realised the monsters were stronger and pursued them into the woods” Lucian read, rather fluently.
The door flew open and someone walked in, Raphael.
“You're late” Mr Alister stated. Rapheal gave him a once over before walking towards his seat, he raises his eyes in my direction and I look away. Lucian continues reading.
Raphael stands in front of his seat, I noticed the plaster on his face and the bruise beside his lips. He contemplates something before he looks towards me. I can feel his eyes but I don't bother raising my head.
He plops in the seat behind me; his original seat.
“What are you doing Rapheal?” Mr Alister asked.
“Sitting down—sir” Raphael replied in his usual rude tone.
“That's not where you've been sitting” Mr Alister fires back and his eyes turn to me. He seemed displeased with the idea of Raphael behind me.
“I changed my mind” Raphael scoffed and I swear, I heard Mr Alister growl.
“I can sit and not read the book” Lucian shrugged looking back and forth between the both of them, Mr Alister is glaring in my direction but I know it's directed at Raphael.
“Go on” Mr Alister replied tearing his eyes away and facing the rest of the class.
“It seems you have our professor wrapped around your little fingers” I hear Rapheal's voice from behind me.
“I have no idea what you're talking about”
“Don't play dumb with it, I don't know what you did but he keeps looking at you with this longing in his eyes” Rapheal stated, he was trying to get under my skin.
“Why are you suddenly talking to me?” I asked as I rolled my eyes though he couldn't see.
“You're odd, I don't know what it is but I know you're odd” he murmured, making me tense in my seat, did he figure it out?
I heard him scoff.
“I hit the nail on the head didn't I?” He probes further.
“I have no idea what you're talking about” I replied planning to ignore him from now.
“I'll get to the bottom of it…..Miss Martins” He said.
“Rapheal get up” Mr Alister called, his eyes shifted back to our direction.
“I was speaking with Miss Martins” Raphael stated making me freeze in my seat.
“Avery” Mr Alister looks at me this time seeming sad. “Get up”.
I quietly obey rising to my feet. I was glad he told me to get up. His favouritism towards me wasn't going unnoticed.
Everyone was suspecting us of something. He was just my professor, that was all.
…….
Later that evening after my session with Mr Alister and of course dinner, I headed back to my room. My roomates had left earlier as I came late to the dinning room.
I hear footsteps behind me and turn to find Cillian. I hadn't seen him in a while.
“Hello cupcake” he smiled and I stare at him in confusion at the nickname.
“Not cupcake? You remind me of a savory red apple” he says and looks away as if remembering the apple he was speaking of.
If I wanted to maintain a low profile, I needed to avoid the likes of Cillian. A girl passes by glaring at me. He was the women's man.
“I heard of you and Phoebe” I suddenly say and his expression sours.
“Hm... what did you hear?” He asked, turning to face me, his crimson red eyes staring into my soul.
“You two dated, you broke up” I shrugged not wanting to go into further details.
“Just the cycle of life” he sighed and walks closer to me. When he's right in front of me and leans closer, I am forced to step back but he keeps coming closer.
“Cillian” I whisper my breath catching in my throat and he sighs.
“What are you?” He asked, placing his hands on either side of the wall cornering me into it.
“What…..what do you mean?” I asked. “You're too….close” I muster the courage to say but he only leans closer making the scent of his cologne fill my nose. I look down…suddenly unable to keep eye contact with him.
“I see you on the vampire line in assembly, but you're not a vampire, are you my dare sweet apple?” his finger trace the side of my face and I shut my eyes in fear. He had long nails just like the guard and they were both pale. Cillian was a vampire there was no doubting it.
“You're a vampire” I state the obvious and he chuckled before raising my head making my eyes meet his.
“A pureblood one” he adds and I swallowed hard, he smiles with his teeth revealing his sharp fangs.
“I know you're not one Avery, you can fool the whole school, but you can't fool me, you're human aren't you?” he asked and I freeze.
“N….no” I quickly reply not wanting him to assume my silence as a yes.
“Then what are you?” He asked with a hum.
“I’m a dhampir” I lie trying to steady my breathing. Cillian looks taken aback but nevertheless he pulls away and watches me while I draw air into my lungs.
Did he not know the concept of personal space? Cillian stares at me long before bursting into a fit of laughter.
“A dhampir?” He bursts out laughing again.
“What's so funny?” I asked, becoming annoyed with the way people laughed when I said what I was.
“You're the lowest rank of vampires, barely considered vampires” he laughed again and I pouted, clenching my fists pretending to be angry.
Cillian's laughter dies down and I don't miss his gaze that lingers on my neck, “See you later, sweet apple” he smiled before walking away and I let out a breath.
I was almost caught, he would have known I wasn't one of them, I was grateful for Daphne's clever lie.
It was the Saturday of my first week here, I remembered what the dragons announced on one of the assembly days, sports will be held on Saturday.I had come to observe that the dragons were the highest ranking creatures, people naturally respected them, some say they are one of the oldest creatures and naturally created while the rest were born from magic or a curse.I watched as Phoebe dolled herself up once again, a habit I had gotten used to, she would spend hours in the bathroom, scrub, shave and apply a whole load of make up.Daphne was already dressed for sports, her navy blue shorts hugged her hips revealing her thick thighs but her shirt was baggy, falling over the shorts , letting it peak out.“We're so going to be late” Daphne groaned and I pulled out my sportswear. I had just gotten out of the shower and still had my towel wrapped around me and my hair yet to dry.I held up the grey shirt in front of me. I grabbed a sports bra and pulled the shirt on, but it hooked on my neck

It's darker now and I become more conscious of my environment, what if those girls came out of the shadows again?Thankfully we safely made it to the end of the halls and unto the stairs.“Thank you sir” I said with a curt nod and he stared at me, then turned to look at the top stairs before walking away, not saying anything. My eyes darted to look in his direction to find the headmistress standing on the stairs.. “All students should be at the dining hall. Are you looking to start trouble, Miss Martins?” She asked, giving me a grim look.“No…no, of course not” I fumbled my words, if there was someone I was completely scared of, it was the headmistress.“To the dining room” she commands and I run downstairs heading towards the dining.I enter the doors and look towards the line, it's very short. I quickly join up, trying to gather my thoughts.“Three feet back” a voice said in front of me and I looked up confused and saw Raphael glaring down at me.“Three feets back” he repeats looki
I successfully made it to the second floor, the sun had already gone down and the evening breeze was cool. I stared down the hallway, a feeling of ptsd hitting me. But I knew I had to move, I already had classes here this morning, how hard could it be?I heard the clicking of a door and I froze, the hair on my skin standing.I see Mr Alister walk through the door of our classroom and he's heading straight for me. A few students are passing by, but most have retired to their rooms. My eyes meet his and he holds them, not bothering to look away. The way he stared at me, there was such a longing, if I didn't know any better, I would say it's desire. I had packed my black curly hair in a high pony tail and had Phoebe do light make up, which just consisted of powder and lip gloss, she didn't let me leave otherwise.“G…good evening sir” I greeted.“C…..Avery” he sighed and took a whiff of the air before his eyes landed back on me, the rims of his pupils glowing amber.“I wondered how long
“Take a seat anywhere, Avery” he said gesturing with his hands and I moved glad to be away from the spotlight and try to decide on the three empty seats. I spot one towards the window and hurry towards it. I recognised the face of the person sitting behind the seat, it was the guy with stormy eyes in the hallway and he eyed me warily.I sat on my seat, trying to calm my racing heart when the seat behind me screeched.“Raphael what is it?” The professor asked.“I can't sit here, change my seat” he demanded and I swallowed.“There's nothing wrong with your seat Rapheal, sit down” the professor commanded, clearly not appreciating his tone.“If you don't change my seat, I'll leave. I cannot sit here” he repeated and I scrunched my eyebrows. Did he have a problem with me?I turned to look back at him, his stormy eyes already glaring at me. He suddenly grabbed his bag and walked away, evading me totally. He walked to one of the empty seats and plops down.I suddenly feel weird and the peop
After dinner, my roommates and I began heading to the other block, along with some students, while others stayed behind. As we climbed down to the second flight of stairs, I couldn't help but stare into the hallway, all the lights were back on.“Walk fast” Daphne called in front of me and I doubled my steps to meet up.***Daphne pushed the door open as we entered our room, but Phoebe stayed outside.“I'll see you guys later” Phoebe muttered in a small voice before walking away.“What's that about?” I asked Daphne who shut the door.“Learn not to be nosy, it'll help” she scolded and I looked down embarrassed. “You'll have to keep a low profile, so people won't be too interested in you” She warned.“I know” I replied, I was a little annoyed at her tone but I had no idea what she was and I knew she was just caring for me.I sighed and tossed myself onto the bed, my bones creaked and my muscle ached and soon I embraced the darkness and slept, dreaming of monsters trying to eat me, dark s
