LOGINThe fog soon cleared and it was my diva I had pinned on the floor surrounded by other students and our master.
It seemed to have been a test from the beginning.
Applaud rose from the crowd that circled us.
My diva Sammy gave me an ugly smirk and over powered me lifting me off the ground and kept me suspended in the air.
I wailed like a baby for her to put me down.
Yes, my diva was a girl and she was pretty strong at that, I wonder why my mother made such a choice.
Usually most of the females had male divas because male divas were presumed to have less weaknesses and more guidance.
“Why not a male diva?” I always questioned my mother's decisions but she left with her family during the time of fear.
I couldn't stand Sammy at all. She was a pain in the ass.
She threw me on the ground and I groaned from the pain.” That's for aiming your claws at me you cry baby"
" Didn't ask to be ambushed you weirdo” I said springing off the ground and dusting myself off the dust.
" Enough bickering you two” our master called us to order and summon the other students.
“We are each other’s strength and weakness, you need to know your pair like the palm of your hand,
Grow up war is soon to come
We need our defenses strong
You are the future
You are our strength to continue fighting…”
The speech was endless but I could hardly focus as Sammy had no intention of letting go that I pinned her to the ground.
She threw endless threat notes at me. Soon the master caught on and placed us two on camp duty.
We polished the wrestling gears as the other students continued lectures.
I returned home in the evening feeling tired and weary
I retired to my room freshened up and was set for dinner.
I proceeded to the dinner hall where dinner was set for my father and I.
~At the dinning hall~
“ Where is big uncle?" I asked about Paul as I found him missing in the room.
We always had dinner together.
“ Sit,” my father instructed with a gloomy face.
I sat and we started eating with the room filled with unusual silence.
I finally broke the endless silence “you know we can sense emotions, could you let it out already Father?"
“Finish your food first" he returned with a cold gesture not even daring to look me in the eye.
Filled with a sense of unease I proceeded to eat in a hurry my anxiety grew and I couldn't contain it.
“Try and stay calm, I feel too much anxiety in the air" my Father said.
" You know I can't contain it father, if only you could let the cat out of the bag probably we will be having dinner in peace’
“ You're always awkward as ever, Only bug uncle saddles you now you have chased him away like you did with mum" I said unconsciously in an angered mood.
“Young lady! You will address me with respect and such words will not be uttered at this table" my Father refrained me from saying any further words as he sensed I had tampered from an emotion that wandered past the room.
“ I'm sorry Father" I finally calmed down and finished the portion on my plate.
He noticed my saddled look and decided to start a conversation. “ Your master has complained of your uncanny behavior, I don't want to complain about you again."
“ But dad, Sammy is just a pain in my soul",
“ That's their nature" my father interrupted me
" We are the Superior ones, DNT let it be the other way round, I expect nothing but excellence from you “
" Yes father” I gave in to a surrender seeing facts from his appeal.
“Secondly, with your big uncle and I, we got news that your mother…”
“ Don't bring her into this" Paul cut in with a serious look on his face
“Uncle” I said leaving my mouth gaps open as I faced Paul
“ This is a family affair, she deserves to know and not be in the dark" my father continued, facing me with disappointment in his eyes.
I was more curious as my father rarely discussed issues concerning my mother.
“ She could be alive", “what?" I screamed, cutting in with hesitation.
“We are not sure yet Edwin, don't let emotions of Julia overwhelm your sense of judgement" Paul echoed with an intense voice and a sense of plead.
“She is still my daughter’s mother, having her back will help Hernia"
She should have thought of that before she upped and left her daughter.
“ She is still my responsibility" my father pressed the conversation on.
The last words I could grasp was " she could be alive” I had always wondered what happened, why she left.
The two paused, noticing my silence. My father sensed an unfamiliar emotion from me.
“Are you ok child?" He questioned. "Yes dad, I will take my leave now” I said storming out of the room.
I ran out and went to get Sammy. Luckily I found her immediately I stormed out pulling her to a corner of the dining hall.
She demanded to know what I was up to but I just needed her to help me block out my emotions.
I clinged fast and hard to hand, that was all we needed to help the magic work as I eavesdropped on the conversation.
“ You shouldn't have brought the little girl into this; she is too young to be entangled in all this uncertainty.
How do we know she will be willing to follow us back home, besides she fled with her lover"
" You know she had no choice her father was never going to accept me, she did it to keep Hernia safe”
“Because you feel emotions doesn't mean you are right. What mother picks her father's wish for her child?”
“You need to trust me on this Paul, support me on this”
Finally the two stopped bickering and agreed on a term.
“I will let you look for her but you will send out a few men in disguise first to ascertain her position and safely escort her out of the bare land, you know the old wolves inhabit most of that area now.
I can't have you endanger your life like that, Hernia still needs her father” Paul came to a conclusion.
Sammy knew how impulsive I could be so she told me not to do anything rash.
We both retired for the night in our different rooms.
~At wee hours~
I got ready to pack a few clothes and food in an animal skin bag my father gifted me for my 15th birthday.
Stepping outside, few touches were on from guards keeping watch. I sneaked into my father's study carefully avoiding dictation, I got hold of a map on the table and set out to leave.
I fled into the woods and soon I lost sight of our small town. I was now alone, my nocturnal eyes guided me as I journeyed.
I knew my father and uncle would be super worried but my
strong will surpassed the feeling of worry.
I wanted to find out the truth for myself. The real reason behind my mother's absence.
The sun had already gone down on us, clouds formed slowly in the sky looking like it would rain." My baby, Hernia Amber” she called out to me by my name. Watching her cry caused my heart to ache. The way her lips trembled when she spoke my name and the gut-punch of familiarity I felt, sent a jolt of electricity through me.I turned to my dad, he stood with his eyes widened and shivering like he had seen a ghost. His face that was once filled with fire of fury was now gray like a stone carving.“My child, it's me. It's your mother" she sobbed uncontrollably while trying to speak.I signaled the guard to stand down.I was only a few meters away, her lovely cedar scent filled the air. Her shadow followed behind her. She looked different, she didn't have the white garment on. She was draped in expensive high official heavy slick. Her hair was packed in a bun with a jewel piece. Her face bore the elegant tragic lines of someone who survived a lifetime of noble intrigue.I looked in her e
Every instinct in my body screamed at me to confront him.I met him standing arms crossed, facing the low fence.“Why do you enjoy keeping things away from me dad?" I angrily questioned my father as he stood outside staring into thin air,my voice hard as ice.“Hernia! I will not tolerate that tone" he revolted like a wave, his eyes shot at my friend who stood behind in awe of the clash out.“Then talk to me, talk to us dad. I'm your daughter yet I don't even know you dad" I began crashing out not minding my tone.He stood by the fence, his eyes scanning four of us as if scanning casualties on a battlefield. His sharp gaze bore into me with evident contempt“Two months," he whispered, the quietness of his voice more terrifying than a shout.“Two months of silence and searching for you and your friends. While you chased a ghost that didn't want to be found" I blinked occasionally scanning through my conscience. I watched my dad and couldn't recognize the man who I had forced into an ou
“Sir Crisent Herpens!" the king yelled angrily with every vein in his body standing out from increased blood circulation. That unholy name quickly rings a bell, king of the old werewolves, divider of our clan we finally meet eye to eye. I settled into the chair more reserved than ever without fear. For a long time I have heard tales about Lord Crisent. A man greatly feared that commanded all the old werewolves packs. Oppressors of humans and wolves. I turned to the king, he restrained himself greatly suppressing his anger and humiliation. His hands were clenched into his fist, a clear sign of fuming rage. The king was only a puppet, a veneer of authority he wielded as he please.I turned back to Lord Crisent as I read the room. The man’s gaze still mixed with cold rage and animal instinct. His werewolf eyes glowing with dangerous intensity “Careful what you wish for little girl" the masculine growl released from his voice.I remained poised, settled into the chair and let out a mocki
“Dad, I have to go. I will meet you all at Kael's place” I restrained him, pulling him away from the guard who was almost running out of breath.Dad's shoulders relaxed as he stepped away from the guard with eyes darting between me and the guard and his temper still sparring within.Dad grabbed my hand gently still with a flushed face “Don't delay to come to me, understood?" his tone filled with heartfelt concerns." Yes father” I replied with a heavy breath gently pulling away from his grip.…I walked into the king's personal study room. The room has a welcoming scent of old scrolls and heavily burned beeswax oil. The chaos of outside walls halted as the doors were shut by a servant that led me in.The floor was graced with an enormous furry carpet that spread across the room. My feet danced in the softness and relaxation the carpet had to offer.I looked at the wall and was astonished by the painting frames of war and nature. I was so distracted by the aesthetics that I didn't not
The king's face burned in pure awe as he approached, I could tell he was going to harm me. His emotions were of punctured ego and defeat. His sword rested on my shoulders, I felt his panting from the distance he stood. “I accept the results of this challenge and I promise to honor my word and grant your three wishes" he pausedPointing a sword to the crowd. I grew anxious not knowing his next intention “ But, we will feast and make merry with the animals from the hunt. You can appeal to me tomorrow." The people cheered upon hearing the king's decree. He moved closer to me at the position I knelt and whispered “you and your friend have gained my attention and so will no longer be prisoner" He called in the guards to show us where to freshen up and join the party and offered a seat at the official's table.…“I saw my dad in the woods" I whispered to Philip with a mouth full of meat chewing gently. His eyes bulged with surprise. He words as he chews. We both ate like starved dogs. “We
The man swung his sword into the air ready to strike me off.“Nooo!" A voice echoed from a distance plunging the man high into the air.Another beast, a werewolf. It roared at me and I immediately understood. “Get out of here" it said.I recognized that roar. My dad, how is he here? I sprang up with what strength I had left as I wondered. My healing ability kicked in, I limped as I took off and soon my body was in shape to run on both feet. I fled not looking back.I took the direction the elk had headed earlier.I soon felt its strong scent as it had bled heavily and sensed its fear and weakness. The beast lost its will to fight and was about to give up.I latch on the beast throat again and pin it to the ground. It wrestles continuously and I deepen my grip. Its horn gets caught up in the woods and its struggle lessens.I felt its vital artery as it steadied and lounged it out causing blood to splash all over the elk and on my face. The beast finally gives up. It soon goes cold and
“They have been out since we got to you, you refused to wake up for 2 hours now, others woke up pretty soon" Constance explained vividly hoping to get a reply by the look on her face but all I could give was a dead stare.“How do you know that? You came in last you scary cat" Sammy asked mockingly.
The water was as cold as ice, I shivered as warmth left every inch of me. Submerged in the water, I began to struggle. With no air, I held my breath. Soon the panic overwhelmed me and I gasped for air struggling in the water which felt like a heavy mass on my skull. Hungry for air in my silent st
“We need to head to the ‘Monk tower’ for answers," the blind boy suggested with a lowered gaze.I could see the flames in his cloudy eyes and he wore an expression burning with terror. What have we done? I thought to myself as I stared into his eyes.“Where is this place you talk about and how does
“I don't know about you guys but I think he gave each of us a message" Constance gave her opinion.Monks came in, pointing us to our quarters.I pulled Sammy back as she was about to leave no, when others were no longer in the premises I inquired “What do you make of all these?" “Seven flames, you
