chapter 032

It felt like a stranger had walked into her while standing naked in front of her bedroom mirror.

That was because the state of her eyes were a mirror to the thoughts of her heart that she kept suppressed and ignored. 

Now, Ethan was seeing her eyes swollen. 

Was he happy? She thought. Happy that he had ruined her and broke her heart, that he made her wake up at night to bleed her heart out?

She forbade her mouth from saying a word. There was no point telling him things. Ethan had moved on the second she stopped answering his calls. He had hooked up with his ex wife and they were now expecting a baby.

It didn't matter what she felt or claim to feel. 

She stood up, annoyed by every second he stood, towering over her like he cared. It was unnerving. 

But as she attempted to walk away, he grabbed her wrist. A move that both angered and excited her. It felt good to feel his touch again. But, alas, he was going to touch another woman in more ways than that tonight.

“You can't walk away from me, Abigail,” he said. “I'm your boss.”

He regretted the last statement as soon as it slipped out of his mouth. The way Abigail raised her brow made him regret it even more. 

“Yes. Of course,” she said. “You shouldn't meddle in my private matters…sir.”

She nodded curtly and headed towards the bathroom even though she didn't need a bathroom break. She needed a break from all the men around, thinking there was something special about them that needed her grovelling at their feet. 

Ethan was fuming with rage. If Abigail wasn't going to open up about her physical assault, he'd find out the truth. Liam was surely out of the picture, he thought, as he stepped out of the office space. Liam had been home nursing the wounds he got from daring him. It only left one person in the picture.

Daven. 

The rude son of Alpha Makael who had treated him with so much disrespect. Now he was going to get what's coming for him. Blood surged through his veins as he took the elevator. 

While Ethan searched for him, determined to find out why Abigaill had been crying, she remained in the bathroom, staring at her reflection. 

Her eyes fell to the tight bun that sat on top of her head and she remembered last night with her hair free. Even though Daven and Liam had ruined it for her, she realised it was a night she would always remember. 

Tears trickled down her face. Now she was foolishly taking the hand of someone she loathed just to get back at someone she had loved completely. It still broke her heart and all he had to say was, “it was a misunderstanding.”

She bit her lips but the tears didn't stop. Five minutes passed and all she wanted to do was cry her heart out until she became heartless. But she remembered work sitting on her desk. Ethan now labelled their new relationship. He was her boss. Not lover. Not friend. Not even acquaintance. 

So, she knew she couldn't afford to slack in delivering her duties. 

She wiped her face and reapplied her powder and gloss. It was enough that her eyes were puffy. She released the breath she had been unknowingly holding the moment she saw that Ethan had left. 

And yet, it broke her that he hadn't pursued after her or waited for her. 

She settled on her chair, trying to focus on the work before her. Meanwhile, Ethan had seen Daven rocking a chair idly while waiting for time to pass by. The sight of the young boy infuriated him. Not because he claimed the company as his. It was because he claimed Abigail as his. 

He walked up to him, exuding charisma and self confidence with each step. 

Daven raised his head the moment he was standing before him..

“What do you want?” He demanded.

“I should be asking you that,” Ethan hissed. *You waltz in here like you own…”

Daven scoffed. But Ethan maintained his speech.

“...the place, demanding to see Abigail.” He stepped closer, eyes piercing his. “What did you do her,?”

Daven knew how intimidating Ethan could be. He had always admired him when he was little. Until he heard that he bought his birthright. All respect flew out the window.

“I made her cry…made her moan…made her wet,” he said with a proud smile.

Ethan's heart leapt with each statement.

“And for making her cry, I'm making up for everything in the car.”

Ethan gritted his teeth. He couldn't stop picturing Abigail in bed with another man. 

“You'll stay away from her,” he said, growling low. His wolf was mad already. Abigail belonged to them, no one else. 

“You're not my father, okay?” Daven responded. “Keep that advice for your son. As for me, my father approves.”

“You won't lay a hand on Abigail again,you fool!?”

Daven didn't care what the old man was getting at. All he knew was, he enjoyed triggering him and seeing the veins in his head popping out. 

“The things I would do to her —you’ll never know.” He stood up, smirking. “You should warn Liam more to stay away from Abigail. She's moved on and is now with me.”

Ethan couldn't contain himself anymore. How dare Daven call Abigail his when she belonged to him alone?

“Daven!!!” He raised his hand, ready for a heavy punch. As soon as the other hand grabbed his shirt, he threw the punch at him.

Daven, who hadn't expect an alteration stumbled backwards, falling on the desk. He pushed the items on the table, screaming and ready for a fight. 

Mia rushed in to the office space where Abigail was typing, oblivious to what was going on downstairs.

“The boss is in a fight,” Mia announced, face splashing with excitement.

But Abigail face blanked. “What?’ she asked, as though she had misheard.

“Downside,” Mia confirmed. “...with Alpha Makael's son."
