The last thing Abigail wanted was another scandal.
It was going to be much worse this time. How could she explain that she was fucking her ex boyfriend's father and was in love with him?
They'd label her a wrench immediately. Even Mia would look at her with disgust. She knew how much it was forbidden to be involved with a pure wolf and how much more dangerous it was to be sexually intimate with one's boss and ex boyfriend's father, so she couldn't even tell Mia about her relationship with Ethan..
She hadn't even told her about her secret relationship with Liam.
And now, she feared theteo men were fighting because of her. Her heart was racing like Mia's but it was no excitement. She would be cast out of society and be labelled a rogue wolf.
How could she survive out there?
Her stomach churned and she wanted to throw up. But Mia, oblivious to her state, pulled her hand, nudging her up.
“I better the boss would give Daven a good beating,” she said. “Daven's good looking but he's rude. Do you know he approached me this morning demanding…”
Abigail was lost in her head while Mia narrated her own ordeal with Daven that morning.
“Come on,” she said, pulling her up when she realised Abigail wasn't listening. “We're going to miss all the fun and I'll be so mad at you.”
Abigail nodded, still dazed. “I'll be right there.”
Mia let go of her hand. “You can't stand the sight of seeing the boss's muscles flexed and fighting…because I was right. What the fuck, Abby?” She sat down now, having discovered something that two men who could unleash their wolves, fighting.
“First, you were secret dating his son…and now, you're having a crush on him.”
Abigail plugged her eyes to the monitor and started typing.
“You're out of your goddammed mind, Abigail.”
Abigail exhaled. “You're the one imagining things, Mia. He's an old man.”
Mia chuckled even though she was simmering with annoyance. There were strict rules for hybrids, and when Abigail had broken it once, she had forgiven her. She wasn't sure she would of she did again.
“Did you call Ethan Frey old?” She asked. “That man looks younger than my younger brother. He's ageless.”
“Ageless,” Abigail repeated even though her heart was pounding against her chest. “There's nothing like that. And I'm not interested in old men.”
“That better be true,” Mia warned. “I'll disown you if you get mixed up in another scandal,” she added. “You can't forget the rules, Abby.”
They were in the same ethics class and orphanage. Mia crammed them like her life depended on it and even dared to pass it with a distinction. It was the only course Abigail barely pass because she refused to accept the terms of the community.
“We did nothing wrong,” she muttered as she kept typing.
But Mia heard her clearly. “You want to change things —start a revolution? Count me out. You can't fight nature's law.”
Abigail rolled her eyes. They told them it was a predestined law from nature and the moon goddess. But Abigail was sure they were written by classist pure breeds.
“Aren't you going to get entertained by pure wolves anymore?” She asked, unfixing her gaze from the screen. “Isn't that against the rules too?”
Mia parted her lips to argue but closed them once she realised she wouldn't win that round.
“You should find a hybrid boy and date,” she advised unsolicitedly instead. “Don't you want to have a family?”
Abigail scoffed. She had never envisioned having a family with a lowly hybrid. What was she going to raise? A family to be bullied.
It was the reason she had no interest in relationships. But with Liam, it had come with security, knowing he could protect her children. And with Ethan, it was more than that. It came with an absolute security for her. Ethan had showed her that she could be loved regardless of her class.
Until she realised that he had a misunderstanding crises and would jump on his ex the moment he perceived that something was wrong.
“Go have hybrid babies,” she said instead.
Mia's parents hadn't died like Abigail's parents. Her parents had thought things would change with a baby. Her father was a pure wolf and her mother, a hybrid. When she got pregnant, she thought her boyfriend's family would take her in and even hide her status. They were wealthy enough to do that.
But they soon realised that they were alone after her boyfriend's family disowned their son. Mad, he left the city, joining the rogues. And her mother, realising the pains of having a hybrid child, abandoned her in front of an orphanage, and went looking for her boyfriend.
Abigail couldn't understand how a person who carried such baggage could dream of starting a family. Hybrids didn't get much attention in the hospital. It was worst if you were pregnant. The nurses never came to attend to them, and if you got lucky, you'd wish to be left alone than to be helped by them.
Abigail could never imagine herself going through that. So, she knew she would not be giving love a chance. She had thought things would work out with Ethan. But now, she was done with love.
Mia stood up. “It's not like you've got a choice, Abby,” she said. “I can't make the same mistake my mother made.”
Abigail knew how sensitive that conversation was. Even as Mia held a bold front, she knew she was breaking inside. If only Mia could see her own broken heart.
“Oh, Mia…”
She stood up and embraced her. “You know I'll always support your choices,” she said. “I can't let my preferences ruin yours. I'm so sorry.”
Mia sniffled and pulled away. “At least, you apologized. It's not your fault, girlfriend.”
She smiled and it relieved Abigail. She smiled too.
But her smile vanished the moment the door of the office space was thrown open. Daven stepped in like a wounded lion, causing Mia to jump in fright and scream. He didn't even look at her..
His gaze fell on Abigail. “It's lunch break,” he declared. “Can we go now?”
Mia was watching Abigail astonished. What was her involvement with Daven? Why was he speaking to her that way?
Abigail saw the look and she didn't want Mia to misinterprete things. She stared at Daven's outstretched hand, wondering if she should take it or not.
Ethan took Abigail's hand.“I really want to show you in every way that you're my choice,” he said. “So, I'll stay with you tonight.”“And tomorrow?” She asked, teasingly. “Every other night…till forever.”It felt good hearing that. Ethan figured he would deal with Bianca's problem by morning of the next day. He was so sure that she wasn't pregnant and after the test result had confirmed that, his would send her away, a mistake he wouldn't make again. He pulled her to himself, just to taste the sweetness of her lips. “I've missed doing this,” he confessed. “I've missed your laughs. You have no idea.”Abigail slapped his chest with mock annoyance. “You left me all alone.”He wrapped her with his arms. “I'm sorry, my pigeon.”“Pigeon.”“‘cause you're cute and smallish.”Abigail smiled. “It was you, wasn't it? The person who did my job.”“Stayed all night for you.”Her smile widened. Then she raised her head. “Oh my gosh! It was you. You sent me that money.”Ethan didn't affirm but hi
Bianca's heart had been racing erratically ever since Ethan requested for a proof of pregnancy, and worse, Alex, his over keen assistant was right there with her to ensure she didn't doctor the result. She sat there, hoping for an escape. If Ethan found out that her pregnancy claim was a lie, he would be mad at her deception and lock her out. She played with her fingers nervously while Alex sat there, waiting for her to go in. He had received clear instructions from his boss to follow through the process. And seeing how nervous she was, he knew she was hiding something. But for the life of him, he would never understand why his boss had decided to go back to his ex wife. Alpha Ethan had been barely alive until he found Abigail. He had seen how much he changed and he didn't care about the age difference. And the past few days without her had been torturous for him.He could never understand Alpha Ethan.“Why are you here anyway?” Bianca barked at him. “Isn't Ethan coming?”She was des
Ethan held her hand and moved dangerously close to her. She felt his warm breath against her ears. It spoke of burning desires, a call that awakened hers. But Abigail wanted so badly to resist, yet, she wanted more badly to give in, to forget about everything even for the moment and fall into the arms of the man she was still obviously in love with. “Why are you doing this to me —to us?” Ethan's voice, laced with deep desire, croaked into her ear.She shut her eyes and held her breath. With him so close, it was difficult to decide, to remain angry, or to say no.She moaned with need. Even her body couldn't deny that she missed him, and more than ever, she wanted him, yet there and now.Ethan took cue from her moan and found her lips. They crashed into each other, each touch, a reminder of the passion they ignited in one another and a testament that they were meant for each other. Abigail didn't remember Bianca and her pregnancy and Ethan didn't think of Daven and what relationship h
It was too late for regrets, Abigail knew that. So she didn't apologise. She glared at him like how she wished she could glare at every wolf who had called her a hybrid or looked down on her. He was bearing the brunt because he couldn't mind his business.Despite the gravity of her words and the way it made him feel initially, Daven realised he wasn't really mad. It soothed him, strangely.Wasn't it the truth?Besides, he had never had never had anyone speak to him that way. Even abroad, the ladies always kept their thoughts to themselves because of what they could gain from him. And back here, he was the Alpha's son.“You insulted me first,” Abigail declared. “Do you not realise it? You don't respect my decision because I am a hybrid.”Daven nodded. She was right. He had overstepped. He started the car and took the opposite lane, returning back to the office. Abigail didn't want this ride home. She didn't want to be in the space of someone who constantly ridiculed her existence. Wa
It was a relief to Abigail. For one, she had thought she had been set up. And she really needed a new card after Daven rudely broke hers. She was actually on her last cent and she knew how excruciatingly difficult it was to get a card at the bank.Well, unless your blood screamed pure wolf. She could afford to frown now.“You made me beg for nothing.”It was infuriating being around someone who enjoyed making fun of others. But for now, Abigail kept her cool. She needed him to help her sort her card issues. After then, she would tell him to stay the hell away from her. She wasn't a hybrid that needed some pure wolf’s shadow to navigate her way around. She had been doing just fine before every one of them.Daven chuckled and led the way. “I didn't know you had a tear in you,” he said as he turned towards the bank. He owed Abigail a new card. But that was now really the reason he had decided to help her. Truth was, he couldn't stop thinking about her and desiring to hold her. And his
Daven held the steering, feeling proud. He had the woman he wanted, seated beside him. And even though her face was moulded into a scowl, a win was a win.Abigail sat quietly, wondering where Daven was taking her to. The day was bright and a public place was a huge no. She didn't want to be in another scandal. Mia had told her straight. She would abandon her. She couldn't even survive another scandal, being looked at as she walked the street and hated by even the unloved - the hybrids. She faced Daven. “Lunch break is thirty minutes,” she reminded him. He probably had never worked, she thought. And had no regard for time. “Where are you taking me to?”Daven flashed a smile that grated on her nerves. “Chill. Will ya? And don't worry, it's my company. No one can sack you.”“It's not yours if you're not CEO,” she shot quietly. She understood boys like Daven. Always having things done for them their whole life and even too lazy right now as a grown adult to reason with their brains. The
