Sadly, the room hadn't changed. Even though everything in her life was taking a fast lane.
She dumped her purse on the bed and pulled out the gown. Today was supposed to be a memorable day and the gown was supposed to be a reminder. But it turned out to be a day she didn't hope to remember. So, she folded the gown and threw it at the back of her wardrobe even though it was one of the expensive things she had.
She fell on the bed, exasperating loudly. Loud enough for the moon goddess to hear.
She had thought she could beat fate. But she was the one crying now.
She let the tears flow in torrents. Since her break up with Ethan, she hadn't really cried. She had carried the burden in her heart, blaming herself. But after learning that he was with Bianca all this time and they were expecting a baby, she realised she was the fool.
So, she cried her foolishness away
“I hate you Ethan Frey,” she whimpered.
By morning, her eyes had an obvious bag from crying all night. The last thing she needed was for Ethan to feel like he had won —if toying with her heart was some kind of sick game. She stared at her reflection wondering if it was advisable to do so. Finally, she walked into the bathroom and walked out.
A pair of dark glasses did the trick.
The money was still in her account and there was no call from the bank …yet. Sadly, the rude boy who turned out to be her former boss's son had broken her card. And so, she was left with a little cash and the impending doom of a bank's visit.
First doom first. She grabbed her bag and left her house. At least there was no drama waiting outside her door nor through her ride to work. But Mia called her once she stepped into the office.
“What happened?” She demanded
Abigail, not realising her glasses were drawing attention, shrugged. “Nothing. Why?”
“Usually when a woman wears a pair of dark shades in the morning, something's always wrong.”
Abigail smiled awkwardly. She had completely forgotten about that.
“Ohhh…that.’
“Yes. That. Who hit you?”
“No one.” She spoke too fast that Mia suspected something was wrong.
“Then take off the shades.”
Abigail wanted to brush off the topic. “You know I've got a lot of tasks on my table.”
Mia stood up. “If you're in a toxic relationship, you should speak out, Abby. Who's it? A pure wolf? They're the ones always acting rash.”
Abigail chuckled nervously. “It's nothing like that. The thing is …I cried a lot last night.”
She was thinking of the perfect excuse to give. Something that sounded believable.
“I lost an aunt.”
She sniffed for effect. But Mia frowned, not believing what she said
“Aren't you an orphan?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
The realisation that she had been caught in her lies choked her up. She coughed, searching for more lies.
“I mean…an aunt from the orphanage. We call them aunts too.”
She nodded. “I'm sorry. I thought it was something else.”
Abigail, now at ear that Mis had bought her lie, leaned forward. “Can you help me now? I swear, my spine's gonna be dislocated from sitting and sorting all day.”
“Sure,” Mia responded. “Just send them before break.”
“You're a lifesaver, Mia,” Abigail said. “I'll do that.”
She walked away, smiling. The thought of an eased day was enough to keep her smiling. But as she neared her post, the thoughts of yesterday rushed her like a flood, sweeping the smile away from her face..
She hoped she wouldn't be seeing Ethan or his new lover. Settling in her chair, she turned on the desktop to start a long day of sorting. But as she opened the file, she realised that all the work had been done.
She stared blankly at the screen
“What?” She gasped, softly.
She scrolled through over and over, making sure she wasn't dreaming or wrong. But it was all sorted.
The only person who had access to the files, apart from her, was Ethan.
Did Ethan…?
No
She could feel her stupid heart racing again. Why would he care about her when he was only playing her for a fool? She hated feeling this way: hating him so much but still feeling flushed just by the thought of him.
If he had really sorted it, he must have stayed up all night. Stupidly, a smile appeared at the corner of her lips. She was smiling like a schoolgirl in love.
“Come if it,” she told herself. “You're only over reading his intentions.”
She returned to mails. At least, sorting out mails was the easiest thing to do. She was still buried in the screen when Ethan walked in. It was never hard to miss him. His cologne introduced him and his enigma kept you fixated. But Abigail trained her eyes on the screen, biting the corner of her cheek.
She could feel her heart beating erratically, and when he came near, she thought it would explode.
I should say thank you, shouldn't I? She asked herself. Thank you for what though? I should say, “Fuck you, Ethan Frey.”
Ethan could tell that she was still mad. He was in a terrible mood that morning from Bianca's drama. He had been prepared for work when he saw blood spots trailing to the guest room. Bianca had cut her wrists and had passed out. He had rushed her to the hospital.
A few minutes later, she opened her eyes and told him. “You let me sleep alone. It's the hormones, Ethan. I can't live without you. I'd rather die.”
He wished Abigail would talk to him and make him feel better. Maybe she had heard the news. But wouldn't she even talk to him?
“You aren't very busy today,” he said. “Can we talk?”
Abigail bit her lips. Even though her heart yearned for him,she knew he was never hers to begin with.
Just as he tried to speak again, a stranger walked into the space. Abigail raised her eyes from the screen. She recognised him immediately. It was him again. Her former boss's son.
Ethan took Abigail's hand.“I really want to show you in every way that you're my choice,” he said. “So, I'll stay with you tonight.”“And tomorrow?” She asked, teasingly. “Every other night…till forever.”It felt good hearing that. Ethan figured he would deal with Bianca's problem by morning of the next day. He was so sure that she wasn't pregnant and after the test result had confirmed that, his would send her away, a mistake he wouldn't make again. He pulled her to himself, just to taste the sweetness of her lips. “I've missed doing this,” he confessed. “I've missed your laughs. You have no idea.”Abigail slapped his chest with mock annoyance. “You left me all alone.”He wrapped her with his arms. “I'm sorry, my pigeon.”“Pigeon.”“‘cause you're cute and smallish.”Abigail smiled. “It was you, wasn't it? The person who did my job.”“Stayed all night for you.”Her smile widened. Then she raised her head. “Oh my gosh! It was you. You sent me that money.”Ethan didn't affirm but hi
Bianca's heart had been racing erratically ever since Ethan requested for a proof of pregnancy, and worse, Alex, his over keen assistant was right there with her to ensure she didn't doctor the result. She sat there, hoping for an escape. If Ethan found out that her pregnancy claim was a lie, he would be mad at her deception and lock her out. She played with her fingers nervously while Alex sat there, waiting for her to go in. He had received clear instructions from his boss to follow through the process. And seeing how nervous she was, he knew she was hiding something. But for the life of him, he would never understand why his boss had decided to go back to his ex wife. Alpha Ethan had been barely alive until he found Abigail. He had seen how much he changed and he didn't care about the age difference. And the past few days without her had been torturous for him.He could never understand Alpha Ethan.“Why are you here anyway?” Bianca barked at him. “Isn't Ethan coming?”She was des
Ethan held her hand and moved dangerously close to her. She felt his warm breath against her ears. It spoke of burning desires, a call that awakened hers. But Abigail wanted so badly to resist, yet, she wanted more badly to give in, to forget about everything even for the moment and fall into the arms of the man she was still obviously in love with. “Why are you doing this to me —to us?” Ethan's voice, laced with deep desire, croaked into her ear.She shut her eyes and held her breath. With him so close, it was difficult to decide, to remain angry, or to say no.She moaned with need. Even her body couldn't deny that she missed him, and more than ever, she wanted him, yet there and now.Ethan took cue from her moan and found her lips. They crashed into each other, each touch, a reminder of the passion they ignited in one another and a testament that they were meant for each other. Abigail didn't remember Bianca and her pregnancy and Ethan didn't think of Daven and what relationship h
It was too late for regrets, Abigail knew that. So she didn't apologise. She glared at him like how she wished she could glare at every wolf who had called her a hybrid or looked down on her. He was bearing the brunt because he couldn't mind his business.Despite the gravity of her words and the way it made him feel initially, Daven realised he wasn't really mad. It soothed him, strangely.Wasn't it the truth?Besides, he had never had never had anyone speak to him that way. Even abroad, the ladies always kept their thoughts to themselves because of what they could gain from him. And back here, he was the Alpha's son.“You insulted me first,” Abigail declared. “Do you not realise it? You don't respect my decision because I am a hybrid.”Daven nodded. She was right. He had overstepped. He started the car and took the opposite lane, returning back to the office. Abigail didn't want this ride home. She didn't want to be in the space of someone who constantly ridiculed her existence. Wa
It was a relief to Abigail. For one, she had thought she had been set up. And she really needed a new card after Daven rudely broke hers. She was actually on her last cent and she knew how excruciatingly difficult it was to get a card at the bank.Well, unless your blood screamed pure wolf. She could afford to frown now.“You made me beg for nothing.”It was infuriating being around someone who enjoyed making fun of others. But for now, Abigail kept her cool. She needed him to help her sort her card issues. After then, she would tell him to stay the hell away from her. She wasn't a hybrid that needed some pure wolf’s shadow to navigate her way around. She had been doing just fine before every one of them.Daven chuckled and led the way. “I didn't know you had a tear in you,” he said as he turned towards the bank. He owed Abigail a new card. But that was now really the reason he had decided to help her. Truth was, he couldn't stop thinking about her and desiring to hold her. And his
Daven held the steering, feeling proud. He had the woman he wanted, seated beside him. And even though her face was moulded into a scowl, a win was a win.Abigail sat quietly, wondering where Daven was taking her to. The day was bright and a public place was a huge no. She didn't want to be in another scandal. Mia had told her straight. She would abandon her. She couldn't even survive another scandal, being looked at as she walked the street and hated by even the unloved - the hybrids. She faced Daven. “Lunch break is thirty minutes,” she reminded him. He probably had never worked, she thought. And had no regard for time. “Where are you taking me to?”Daven flashed a smile that grated on her nerves. “Chill. Will ya? And don't worry, it's my company. No one can sack you.”“It's not yours if you're not CEO,” she shot quietly. She understood boys like Daven. Always having things done for them their whole life and even too lazy right now as a grown adult to reason with their brains. The
