Ava’s POV
I sat under an oak tree, my eyes heavy from crying. It was break time and Liana stood beside me. “Ava, crying won’t change anything. The whole world has seen your nude, and Chris…” she paused, her voice tight. “I can’t believe he’s behind this!” I glanced up at her, teary-eyed. “I just feel like we shouldn’t let this go. Chris can’t hurt you like this and go scot-free. Ava, I’m willing to help you get back at him.” I nodded but couldn’t stop the tears. “I don’t think I can,” I whispered. “I can’t, Liana.” “What do you mean? There’s nothing anyone can…” she trailed off. Her eyes locked on a figure walking toward us. “Ava, Chris is coming,” she murmured, barely audible, trying not to look his way. I turned sharply. Yes, Chris was approaching, holding a bunch of roses. “Just stay calm. He might not be coming for you.” I counted his steps in my mind and stopped when he halted in front of us. His face was full of remorse, his eyes shifting between the two of us. “Ava, please. I need to speak with you.” Liana frowned, glancing at me as if expecting me to lash out, but I remained still. Chris was here to apologize, and maybe explain why he did that. “About what, Chris?” I asked, already in tears. “It’s about us, my love,” he pleaded. Liana exploded. “You must be joking! Ava’s not talking to you!” she snapped, stepping in front of me, now face to face with him. “Believe me, Chris, you’ll pay for what you did to my friend.” I stood up and grabbed her wrist, pulling her back sharply. “Enough, Liana. Let me talk with him.” “Ava? Really? You want to talk to him? After he played the video of the sex you guys had in a hotel room for the whole class to see? After he humiliated you? After he broke your heart and cheated on you? Come on…” “Stop!” I yelled, cutting her off. “Stop it, Liana. I know he did all that, but you don’t have to take it so personally!” Liana’s eyes widened. She didn’t see that coming. Her mouth opened to say something, but she swallowed it and walked away. I turned back to Chris, tears in my eyes. “Why? Why are you here?” He knelt and swallowed so hard I heard it. “I didn’t do it, Ava. It was never me. I…I…I was just as shocked and angry as you when I saw it. I was heartbroken. Everything I said or did afterward was out of rage.” I turned away, my back faced him as I wiped my tears with the back of my palm. “I’m sorry. Forgive me.” “Just like that, Chris? Did you ever love me?” I asked, turning to face him. He stood and took my hands in his. “I love you. I cherish you. I would never hurt you. I still want you back, Ava. I can’t let you slip through my fingers.” I snatched my hands away from his. “You’ve hurt me so badly, Chris. I thought you were different,” I paused, trying to steady my voice. “So what do we do about the nude you showed to the whole class?” “That’s exactly why I came. Believe me when I say, I was never involved. It wasn’t me, Ava.” My eyes narrowed. “Liar! You’re a bloody liar,” I said, hitting his chest over and over until he grabbed my wrists. “Listen, Ava. Someone else is behind all this, and that’s all the more reason I am here. I want to show you who.” My mouth dropped open. He pulled out his phone and opened a message from an unknown number. “Look,” he said, holding the screen to my face. I read the message silently. He continued, sweat dripping down his face. “I forwarded the messages to Alex and asked him to track the sender. I wanted to know who sent them,” he explained, opening Wh*tsApp to show proof. He tapped something that looked like a file or document, and I saw the person behind the message. It was Liana. Her picture appeared too. I froze. My heart stopped. “Liana?” I whispered. The name echoed in my head. “And that’s not all. The same unknown number texted me again, asking me to come to Makimama Way, which I did. Guess what I saw there, Ava?” My pulse pounded. My mouth opened, but no words came. Tears filled his eyes. “What?” I managed to ask. The tears finally spilled down his cheeks. “Say it!” I shouted, my eyes burning. “What did you see, Chris?”DR. Dane’s POV“Are you alright, Ava?” I asked calmly. She blinked twice, a reminder that she was sane. I quietly pulled away from under her weight, and she lay naked on the bed, eyes still wide open. I wasn’t cool anymore, as Ava had succeeded in arousing me, causing my manhood to still be erect and refusing to go under my pants; even after it went under my pants, its stiffness was obvious. Just then, an unfriendly knock tore through the door. Ava’s eyes widened, and I stood still.“W…who the hell…” I said as I reached for the handle. I opened it, and to my utmost surprise, Nikky stood there, eyes swollen from crying. Her lips were a little bigger, and her face looked messy. This was how she always looked whenever she’d cried too much when we had misunderstandings or serious issues that affected our relationship. After opening the door, I stood there shocked. She knew it was just what she was thinking because the look on my face said it all. Nikky knew me too well, so she could inter
Dr. Dane’s POVI finished my shower and returned to the room with a towel around my waist. Ava had just taken hers and was seated quietly on the edge of the bed, her hands folded across her lap. Her eyes avoided mine each time I looked her way. There was a soft knock on the door, and the cook’s voice came through.“Sir, the dining table is ready.”Ava rose immediately and walked behind me as we made our way to the dining. The table was neatly set, two plates of food steaming, cutlery placed beside each. We sat across from each other, and the silence between us grew deeper. She ate slowly, barely raising her head. I forced myself to chew, even though the food tasted like sand in my mouth. When we finished, I stood up and told her to wait. I walked down to the bar, picked a bottle of vodka, and returned with one glass. She was still seated, her eyes fixed on the floor as if she were just meeting me for the first time. We returned to our room to at least have some privacy.I poured mysel
Ava’s POVHe helped me to sit in the chair opposite his, and I could feel my heart pounding from intense pain and anger, or something that looked like that.“How do you feel now, Ava?” he asked, but I couldn’t reply. He cleared his throat. “You never told me you took drugs to flush out the pregnancy, but I found out myself. Ava, do you want to kill yourself? What do you think you’re doing to yourself? What if the baby is affected in any way? What would you have done?”“I don’t think that’s any of your business,” I said, not knowing where the courage came from. Dr. Dane’s eyes widened. “Are you mad at me, Ava?”I was quiet; one voice said I should pour out my heart and tell him how long I have been nursing feelings for him. Tell him I love him so much, but won’t I look stupid and cheap again doing that? It’s clear that Dr. Dane doesn’t love me; he sees me as his kid sister and that’s all. To make matters worse, he is even engaged.“Ava,” he called again, pulling me out of my thoughts.
Ava’s POV When I finally woke up, my blurry eyes took in the sight of a figure standing before me. When my vision finally cleared, I realized it was a strange lady whom I was just meeting for the first time. She had beautiful blonde hair, brown eyes, and glowing tan skin with nice curves. “Ava right?” She asked. “I’m Nikky.” She sounded nice but didn’t release her hand for a shake, probably because I had an IV (intravenous drip) fixed on my right hand. I didn’t reply to her, I was too weak to even say a word. She wore a shirt dress that had buttons from the chest to the end of the gown before her knees. The bet was tied to the front to hold up its fitting and the chest was unbuttoned. After observing her, I concluded that she wasn't a nurse or a doctor. “Who got you pregnant?” she questioned with narrowed eyes. It was then that my consciousness returned fully. Different thoughts began trooping into my head. Was I still pregnant? After the drug? There must be a mistake some
Ava’s POVHis gaze dropped when I thought he was close enough for a kiss. I stepped aside to let him in. He smiled as if to say thank you while he walked in. My heart sank as I shut the door.I walked over to the sofa and sank into the chair.“Got any plans for your birthday?” he asked, but only got a single nod from me. I thought faking another birthday would get him to notice me or perhaps satisfy the uncontrollable cravings that were gradually eating me up. Still, it only made my cravings even stronger.Bryan had brought up this plan before I left for the job, to see if Dr. Dane would fall for it and love me, but it seemed like the harder I tried, the more difficult it became.I had supported Bryan in his love affair with Tessa, so he promised to reciprocate it and help me figure out ways in which Dr. Dane could love me back or even make love to me. He said doctors cherished sex on birthdays more than casual days, and I ended up buying the idea of faking a birthday only to get to h
Ava’s POVI rushed outside to meet him while he was entering his car. “I’ll come with you,” my small voice said beneath my breath. He looked back at me, his eyes narrowing, wondering what the hell I thought I was doing. He remained silent while I hopped into the car.The silence between us stretched as he drove, but my conscience wouldn’t let it continue. Was he mad at me now? Was he tired of me already?I cleared my throat, yet my voice cracked as I spoke. “When was the last time you spoke with Bryan?”He kept his head straight, eyes fixed on the road. “It’s been a while,” he replied coldly.Apologizing would ease a lot. I knew I had not been nice and considerate enough. From the corner of my eye, I glanced at him repeatedly until I couldn’t hold back the words anymore. “I’m sorry about what transpired between us in the hotel room.” My voice trembled but was loud enough to reach his ears.My eyes were fixed on my nails as I went on. “I just didn’t know what to do or say.” I wiped my
