Chapter 25

Liz POV

My head is pounding, and someone is screaming obscenities by my side. I try to remember where I am. The last thing I remember is Deimos walking out on me. Leaving me in the hospital to heal alone.

I have hopes that the person beside me is Deimos, but they sound far too chipper to be him.

I open my eyes one at a time and blink several times, trying to clear the haze from them. I moan loudly at the bright light that is shining in my eyes. I turn my head to the side and see a man with golden hair and bright blue eyes grinning at me.

“And the Princess awakens,” he says cheerfully. “I thought I was going to have to be your knight in shining armor and kiss you to get you to wake up.”

I cock my head to the side and try to make sense of the man who is cracking jokes beside me. He has a headset on his head and a gaming controller in his hands. He is pressing buttons on the controller while he stares me in the eyes. There is a loud boom that comes from across the room,
