Chapter -6 “Welcome To The Family”

<Rebel POV>

After settling the Italian business, I was free to get back into my usual life. Yet not that normal. Only a bunch of people knew about my second life. Thanks to Evan, I could get the taste of mundane life without worrying about getting a bullet in my head.

Apart from managing dangerous stuff, I lived the life of a 19 years old teenager, studying architecture and chilling out with friends in the evening.

After collecting reports for a week and assigning new tasks, I called Kyle to handle from here: I’m going back home.

Home?

The King Mansion. The only place where I felt at ease. Yes, you heard me right. There was another King Mansion owned by the King family.

This was the place where I bought first by Evan after he found me on the roadside. Evan was in the mafia business for so long and knew of the risk involved in it. Not just for the person getting his hands dirty, but also for his loved ones and family.

To ensure his family’s safety, Evan planned a car accident that killed the remaining members of the King family for records. In reality, they were all alive and living a luxurious life in the elite mansion built in the other part of the world. After Evan and I, only Kyle’s family was aware of that. They were trusted by the King family.

Impressive, right? That man was dangerous. He was also an amazing leader, trainer, and father figure to me. He gave me a new life and a family to call my own.

His death changed everything for us…

I board our private plane to get to the island. It was a private island and you could assume from its larger landscape whom it belonged to. Yeah right.

My car was already there to pick me up by the time I reached.

Ariana was the first one to run to squeeze me into a warm hug. She was a 16 years old teenager who saw the world through her pink glasses. She’s the daughter of Jane King, the younger sister of Evan.

Next to Ariana was Aunt Jane herself, with her brother standing was Uncle Zordan. They welcomed me with smiles and hugs before letting me past the threshold of the mansion.

“Where’s Mom?” I asked, once settled on the living room’s couch.

“In her room. She wasn’t pleased after your sudden departure.” Ariana whispered in a secretive voice. At which Aunt Jane ‘shush’ her down.

“What? I’m just saying, mom!” Ari pouted.

“I pretty much expected that. I should go meet her first.” I announced. Ready to face the wrath of the lady don of the house.

“Good luck with that! Well, nice to see you are back in a single piece, niece.” Uncle Jordan exclaimed behind me. I passed a smile before vanishing into the maze of hallways.

I knocked on the master bedroom door thrice before entering inside. Judging from the mafia attitude and all the killing, you think how fearless and daring I seemed? I doubt you would believe it if I told you how nervous I was right now.

Shooting people and killing were one thing and facing the wrath of the furious Angelia King was another. Completely different levels of danger.

She has an authoritative aura surrounding her, which forces you to bend as per her wishes. She definitely was not the one you want to mess around with.

The next piece of info will blow your mind!

The woman stood with her back to me, so focused on arranging the flowers on a flower pot was none other than the daughter of the previous Italian boss and Riker’s older sister.

Yeah, you heard me right. How could it be possible? Well, that’s a story for some other time.

“You are back.” Three words were enough to give me a sample of what was coming next. Her voice was plain stiff, indicating red flags from miles away.

“Yes, I’m back,” I mumbled, not letting my words shudder.

“How long are you with this family? Long enough to know what orders mean, I assume, yet you went there without permission and acted recklessly. Do you have any idea how dangerous it could have been for you? For all of us? No, you didn’t. You never did!”

‘I am not a child. I know my stuff well!’

I wanted to shout that so badly, but the words that left my mouth were,

“Sorry, mom. This won’t happen again.” A typical apology was all I could form.

“Humph! You always say that, but never did once think before jumping on fire. If you break rules, you will get punished. You are grounded for a month. I ordered Kyle to take care of things on his own and not to disturb you. You should not waste your time anymore as you have exams coming up. Better start preparing from now on. You can leave now.”

‘What I am, five years old? Grounded? You gotta be kidding!’

I signed, before mumbling my so-called recorded answer, “Yes, mom.”

Back in my room, I jumped onto my bed, lying dead. Mom was more furious than I ever saw her, yet she didn’t let it all out on me. Over the years, it has been one of my favorite habits to defy orders. That’s how I got my name ‘Rebel’

Evan and Angelina are not my biological parents, but the only parental figures I knew of. I lost my memory in that accident and had no idea where I came from. This family accepted me as their own. Not once did I feel I was not their blood.

And Mom’s being a little rude and punishing me was a part of her caring for me. Either way, I didn’t mind spending some time with my family and focused on my studies. I knew the main reason behind her rudeness was to protect me. She didn’t want our family to be entangled with mafia stuff anymore. Though it wasn’t so easy to back off from what ran in the family. Either way, I had given a choice long ago and I still choose that.

I took a long refreshing shower and changed into comfortable clothing before departure downstairs to join everyone for dinner.

Have you watched the scene in the old movies where a big dining table in the middle of the room filled with different varieties of food that a sane person couldn’t tell the names of in a minute? And the people occupying the seats glared at their food as food would come running into their mouths on its own?

And the major role was sitting on the head of the table with a plain canvas face glaring at the watch hanging on the front wall, waiting for everyone to join soon before dinner could start.

If yes? Then welcome to the King family dinner table.

The system followed here was not so different from traditional drama.

I took my seat and passed smiles to everyone, but did not dare to touch the food. That’s how it was. You couldn’t start eating until all were present. I glared impatiently at the empty seat next to mine.

Where was this person?!

A sigh of relief passed my lips when I heard footsteps rushing across the dining area before a voice said, “I’m home. Sorry for running late.”

Here he came. The heir of the King Family, one and only son of Evan King.
