Chapter 4: Stares & Guests

-

"Natalia, get up our guests are about to arrive." Natalia sighed annoyed when she heard her mother's voice.

"Just give me 5 more years." When her mother didn't respond she fell asleep once again.

Suddenly she heard a door open which was soon followed by a gunshot this made Natalia jump close to the edge of her Queen size bed to avoid being hurt in her mother's antics.

"What the hell! Don't you think that's a bit much?" She asked tiredly as she opened her eyes letting out a yawn.

"Good you're fully awake, now get dressed," Nicole said before leaving the room.

Natalia got up despite the obvious pain in her body from yesterday's incident, she decided to ignore it as she went into the bathroom to take a long shower.

Once she was done, Natalia walked into her closet taking out a semi-formal red dress and some heels.

She placed her hair behind her, brushing down the strands that stood up. She did light makeup, her choice of lipstick matched the dress she wore.

Natalia's P.O.V

"Natalia hurry up." I heard my annoying brother at the other side of my room door.

With a sigh, I walked towards the door opening it. "It's about time, they're already here."

"They?" I inquired confused about who was coming, I had heard my mother say 'guests' but I thought it was just a mistake.

"Don't tell me you already forgot." I shrugged while we made our way downstairs.

"Is there a reason I should have cared in the first place?" I asked, generally curious.

"I thought you'd be excited for this visit since the man obviously caught your attention almost as much as you caught his." When he said this realization made its way onto my face as I instantly knew who he was talking about.

"Ales-something. I told you, I don't like him." He rolled his eyes expressing the fact that he was still unconvinced as he opened the door to the dining area.

"Look who has finally blessed with her presence." My father commented with visible sarcasm.

"Thank you for reminding me why I would rather be dead than be here," I said with a tight smile while taking a seat next to my mother.

My brother sat beside Alessandro who sat crossed the table from me.

"Good evening. Sorry, I'm late." When I said this I was speaking to Alessandro and the woman he had danced with the other night.

They both nodded in acknowledgement before Alessandro spoke up.

"It's fine." I didn't want to meet his eyes since I knew the effect they had on me, but I couldn't help myself as I looked up catching his stare.

Before I could be fully drawn in my father spoke. "Alessandro, have you decided to sign the contract?" Everyone turned their attention to the leader of the Italian mafia as we awaited his response.

"Anton, talk about that after dinner. Let's get to know each other first." When my mother said this my father sighed but Alessandro seemed relieved.

"Fine, we'll talk about it in my office." Alessandro gave him a nod.

During dinner, everyone discussed various topics that—like always I didn't care to show the slightest interest in.

"Andrey, could you show Alessandro to the bathroom?" My mother asked, but Andrey checked his phone letting out a curse.

"I would love to, but I need to make a call." He turned to me with the fakest smile I had ever seen.

"Natalia, could you show him where the restroom is?" I didn't get a chance to protest as he already made his way out of the room.

With a sigh, I rose from my seat walking towards Alessandro who was already rising from his seat.

"Follow me." I didn't spare him another glance as I left the room knowing he was following me from his gaze that was burning into my back.

"You do know that staring is rude?" I asked glancing at him for a split second.

"I just can't seem to help myself." He replied while his hand accidentally brushed against mine telling me how close he was.

"That would be cute if I didn't think you were creepy," I said as the bathroom came into my line of sight.

"I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable in any way." I faked a gasp when he said this.

"Who would have thought sorry was in your vocabulary?" He laughed lightly at my response as we stopped in front of the bathroom door.

"The bathroom is right here, I assume you know the way back?" I asked facing him to see he was already looking at me.

"I don't." I gave him the sweetest smile I could muster up.

"Well too bad for you because my food is getting cold." I didn't wait for him to reply as I walked off with his eyes on me.

"You just love to stare don't you." We both knew my sentence was more of a statement than a question, nevertheless, he decided to respond.

"I do when I see a puzzle I just can't figure out." I decided not to respond as I continued walking to the dining area.
