Chapter 2: Spilled & Mafia Women

-

Natalia's P.O.V

I walked towards the waiter who wasn't too far from me, tapping on his shoulder I gained his attention as he turned to me, I could see the fear creeping up on his face the minute he realized who it was.

"A—I—Hi." He began but never got to finish since I decided not to give him the time of day when I took two glasses of red wine, ready to go back to my table.

Though it seemed like the universe had different plans for me since the second I turned around I was greeted by a strong chest which caused some of the wine to spill, luckily none went on me, but I couldn't say the same for the person who induced this incident.

I looked up slowly, meeting dark brown eyes that seemed as stunned as me, I couldn't help when my eyes strayed taking him in.

His face was well defined which drew me in like his eyes, his lips held a faint smirk while he looked calm as ever despite the fact his suit was ruined by the wine I held in my hands.

I couldn't help but notice how he never looked away from me, it was like I was the only one in the room that mattered to him.

I knew half the women and men looked at me that way, but his gaze made me feel different which was probably because it wasn't one of lust.

I looked away from him trying to focus my thoughts, "You should watch where you're going." I snapped ready to walk away, but the second my feet moved his hand was on my wrist, stopping me.

"But you bumped into me." I removed his hand from mine as I tried to push away the feelings that arrived with the sound of his voice which proved to be a difficult task, but I managed to.

"You were behind me, I don't have eyes at the back of my head." He chuckled huskily at my response as he looked into my eyes once again.

I swear if we had met somewhere else I might have slept with him.

I did my best to ignore all the eyes I felt on us as everyone waited to see how I'd handle this situation since my reputation wasn't exactly pristine because of the last incident that transpired in this room.

"Could you at least help me wash this out?" I wanted to laugh at his request, but I kept a straight face as I spoke.

"If you apologize." He didn't say anything which didn't surprise me at all.

"Didn't think so." I drank the rest of my wine from both glasses which wasn't much, sadly.

"Here." I shoved the glasses to his chest not caring if he'd catch them in time as I walked away knowing he was watching me.

When I found my family again they were at our table, sitting. I decided to do the same as I sat with them.

"What was that?" My father asked sounding upset.

His mood seemed to be caused by my interaction with the man I had just been talking to.

"What was what?" I inquired, acting clueless.

"That-" He didn't get a chance to finish which I was eternally grateful for.

"Anton! how have you been?" Our attention was now being given to Diana, who was an old family friend.

She wore her hair out in an afro showing off its defiance to gravity while the red dress she had on complimented her dark almond skin and her brown eyes.

She was gorgeous.

"I've been great, I don't things can get better. How are you, Diana?" My father asked as he stood, planting a kiss against Diana's cheek which my mother didn't seem too pleased about and I couldn't say I was surprised.

All mafia women acted the same. Well, the ones I knew.

If I was seen talking to their husbands or wives I was an immediate threat.

Many would say they are just possessive, but all I saw was insecurity and deeply rooted trust issues.

If you can't trust your spouse with another woman or man, should you really be together?

"I'm fine, i-" Diana's sentence was halted as my mother stood putting on a smile which I knew was very fake since it didn't meet her eyes.

"Diana, I heard you and Matthew spilt. I hope you're doing ok." I kept in an amused laugh at my mother's statement.

This was the only entertainment I would be getting for the rest of the night, so why should I not enjoy it?

"Do you think Diana can see through her bullshit?" Andrey questioned me softly seeming amused like me as he wore a grin.

"Of course, she can, but she'll play along. Diana knows better than to lose an ally over pettiness." He silently agreed with me as Diana spoke once again forcing a smile.

"We did, but we're still working together. We are putting our differences aside for the sake of our mafia and children." As if planned Diana's two children walked towards us, planting themselves beside their mother.

If I remember correctly their names were Davin and Abby.

My mother was the first to acknowledge their presence when she spoke. "David, Abigail. How are you?" Close enough.

"We're fine, how are you?" David questioned her.

"I'm-" Before anyone could say another word the host, Jake, spoke.

"Please be seated." Everyone complied while stopping their current conversations.

"I want to thank you all for coming, this is the one day we all come together, in peace and harmony...For now. I see Natalia came." A round of laughter came with the joke that I didn't find very amusing.

"Now, let's enjoy the feast, the music and the dances." Everyone clapped before continuing their conversations.

It didn't take much time for the food to be brought out which I was glad for since I was very hungry due to the fact I hadn't eaten much breakfast.

Sadly, my family ate in noise that had a headache forming rather quickly. I just watched silently as everyone started a conversation on a different topic every minute.

As I ate my food I could feel someone's gaze on me, unlike the others it didn't make me feel uncomfortable, I actually felt relaxed under their gaze which made me wonder who this person was?

Instead of leaving my mind confused and curious for the rest of the night, I decided to meet the eyes of this person as I turned my head to my far-right catching a familiar face.

It was the stranger I had met a few minutes ago, he didn't shy away when he realized I had got his deep gaze.

He kept staring at me like he was seeing straight through my facade, it was like he saw something everyone else missed and I honestly didn't know how to feel about that.

"Natalia?" Andrey called out taking my attention from the stranger to him.

I looked at my brother confused since I had no idea what anyone at my table was talking about.

"Um...what were you saying?" They eyed me suspiciously before my father spoke.

"I was asking if you would be able to take over training tomorrow?" I kept him a sigh as I nodded.

"Sure."

"Great, Andr-" I blocked out the rest of the conversation, knowing it did not concern me as my eyes met the stranger's once again, who hadn't looked away at all.

I noticed he had a slight smile on his lips, which informed me he probably saw what had happened with my family.

With all my strength, I tore my eyes away from his.

Suddenly music began playing, couples including my parents, instantly made their way to the ballroom floor.

A few minutes later, Andrey sighed softly. "They want us to dance with Abigail and David." He told me quietly, I rolled my eyes at this.

"I'm not dancing," I stated, he didn't push it as he knew he wouldn't be able to convince me.

Andrey wasn't like me, he listened to every order he was given without question since he was such a mama's boy.

I watched as Andrey asked David to dance which he gladly accepted which now left me, Abigail and Diana at the table.

After a minute Abigail spoke up. "Natalia do-" I didn't allow her to finish.

"No, I don't want to dance." Silence took over the table once again and that's exactly how I liked it.

I couldn't help but let my eyes wander over to the stranger's table, he was now talking to a woman who had light brown hair that was a few shades away from blonde, she wore a short red dress that loosely fell above her knees.

I watched them closely since I was very curious about their identities as they spoke to each other.

After a while, the stranger got up taking the woman's hand into his, they made their way to the ballroom floor.

His hands were placed on her waist as her head was planted against his chest.

He whispered something to browned hair woman that had her eyes meeting mine, but she quickly diverted them which made me raise a brow.

Were they talking about me?
