Chapter 5

“Where else could this bitch be?” Adam tried again, and the result was the same—only the operator answered.

He tried another call, which connected after two rings.

“Hello, Boss…” said the voice on the other end.

“Go to Nora’s flat and hold that woman. I’ll be there soon!” Without waiting for a response from the other party, Adam hung up the phone.

"Nora... so you've started threatening me?" Adam's eyes flashed as if Nora were standing right in front of him.

Adam immediately returned to the garage and drove his car. Earlier, he had told his men to go to Nora's rented room. Halfway there, at a red light, Adam's mobile phone rang.

"Hello, how is it? Have you found the woman?" Adam asked, getting straight to the point after seeing the caller's identity.

There was a sound of someone swallowing saliva on the other end of the line. Adam suddenly had a bad feeling.

"Sorry, boss. The rented house is empty. There's no one there!" replied Adam's subordinate.

"What?! Adam gripped the steering wheel tighter. "Where is the woman? Have you looked for her?"

Just as his subordinate was about to answer, Adam spoke again, "I'll be there soon. I'll be there in a minute!"

The phone call ended.

The subordinate could only sigh. His teammate immediately asked, "How did the boss react?"

The subordinate replied, "The boss is coming here right away!"

Fifteen minutes later, Adam arrived in his car. The owner of the rented room was still there with his head bowed due to intimidation from Adam's subordinate.

"Good afternoon, Boss." Adam's three subordinates nodded their heads.

Adam immediately entered Nora's rented room. The room was very simple, consisting only of a small kitchen, a refrigerator, a cupboard, a study table, a bathroom, and a bed. At a glance, Adam concluded that the bathroom in his house was bigger than this room.

"Where is the occupant of this room?" Adam asked coldly.

The woman who owned the rental property could only bow her head and did not dare to look up. Adam's aura was so intimidating that she unconsciously began to shiver.

"Answer! When asked a question, you answer!" snapped one of Adam's men.

"No... Nora is no longer here. She left a few hours ago, taking all her belongings with her," she replied stammeringly.

"Left? Where did she go?" Adam's voice was so cold, it felt like it could make your bones ache.

The middle-aged woman shook her head. "I... I have no idea. She came and just gave me the room key. In fact, she didn't even take the rent for next month for me to return. She said the money was a thank you for looking after her here all this time.”

"Damn it!" Adam kicked the study chair that was there.

Thud!

"Do you know where she moved to or where she went? Did she go alone?" Adam asked again. Now his voice was a little louder. Nora couldn't just disappear like that.

The middle-aged woman shook her head. "I didn't ask where she was going. Besides, it's none of my business and we weren't that close. I just saw her leave in a taxi, I don't know where she was going."

"Trash!" Adam cursed loudly and left the room.

When he reached his car, Adam looked at his three men and immediately gave orders.

"You check the CCTV here and find out where the taxi went. Find the car, ask the driver where she was going!"

"And you, investigate last night's incident. Find out which hospital she was taken to. Find out her condition!"

"And you..." Adam looked at the subordinate closest to him. "Find out about that woman's social circle. Find out where she went from her friends."

"Yes, boss!" The three of them immediately left to carry out their respective tasks.

Adam got back into his car. He sat down and massaged his forehead, which wasn't dizzy. He muttered several times, "Wherever you go, Nora. You won't be able to escape me!"

The sound of the car engine could be heard again. Adam left the rented house.

The owner of the rented house could only breathe a sigh of relief. Adam's aura really scared him. "What have you done, Nora. How could you get involved with them? I hope you'll be okay wherever you are," he hoped.

Meanwhile, Nora was already on a plane heading to her grandfather's hometown. She had no idea what the situation was like there now. Moreover, her late parents had never discussed this. If her grandfather's messenger hadn't come at that time, she wouldn't have known that she still had family. Unfortunately, her grandfather didn't live long and passed away six months ago.

Nora had never been taken there by her grandfather because his residence was really far from the city. There was no entertainment there at all. Her grandfather lived on a plantation that stretched as far as the eye could see.

It was Nora's grandfather who came to the city to see her and ask her to move out of her cramped rented room. However, Nora refused and said she was more comfortable living there because it was close to a shelter that she and her friends from the orphanage had built. The shelter was intended for children who had dropped out of school.

Moreover, Nora did not want her friends to know that she had a wealthy grandfather. She did not want to be taken advantage of by others.

Her late grandfather did not force her. He often made donations to the shelter and orphanage where Nora grew up. Every month, her grandfather would send her a large sum of money.

After a three-hour direct flight, Nora finally arrived at the airport. Earlier, she had changed her number and contacted Uncle Charles, the grandfather’s right-hand man.

As soon as she arrived at the arrival gate, Charles waved at Nora. Nora waved back.

“Uncle Charles,” she greeted him respectfully.
