The same balcony that father had fallen from ten years ago loomed over me. The same spot where they had claimed my father took his life.
I can still picture his bloody, lifeless body on the compound waterfall that’s mounted below. It causes nausea to crawl up my throat.
“You ungrateful brat, how dare you show up here?!” A lady with a bulb hairstyle just like mine, fair and pale skin tone just like mine, height a little taller than mine, marched up to me with obvious fury written all over her face.
I stand still waiting for the slap that always stings. I never expected her to change eitherway–I don’t want anyone in this mansion changing.
The sound comes before the sting registers, and my head is harshly forced to the side. Aish, it still hurts, regardless of how much I prepared for it.
“Get her out now!” She yells at my face, her face red from anger, but the guard dare not try to lay their hands on me.
My chest feels tight. If she’s pained about my presence how should I feel about returning to the same place that murdered my father?
“What are you waiting for?”
“I’m here on special demands, were you not informed?” My lips itches to a smirk, she can slap me all she wants, I’m not the little girl that would hide in the corner, hug myself and sob.
I take a step closer to her, so our faces are inches apart. “I’m guessing your relationship ain’t as strong as it is on screen? Why? Are you afraid I am here to snatch him away?”
She raises her again, and I square myself up for another slap.
“Ms. Côté, the Master is seeking your presence in his office, now.” A guard intercepts, stretching out his hands to guide me. If only he knows how much I knew this mansion.
I oblige with a nod, a spark of excitement flares in me at the sight of my childhood bully, the almighty Chloe Martin, soon to be the next First Lady of the Bouchard family. For the first time, I walk past her, without shedding a tear.
That same spark fades as I ascend the grand staircase. By the time, I am standng before the tall wooden doors, my heart had begins racing. The few happy moments I had in this mansion collapsed all at once.
He was my savior, from Chloe, who always found pleasure in bullying me, the first lady of the mansion who always made me her slave because my father was one of their guards, and from the First Master’s sexual approaches, despite he was five times my age.
He would hide me in his room, pat me to sleep, and keep me away from his parents, one time, he had stood up to his father, yelling at him that he was wrong making sexual advances to a kid; he had even threatened to get him arrested if he continued harrasing me. He was a safe space, and eventually my heart began to flutter for him. I was still young at that time, but I knew what a crush was. I was no fool. I had crush on him.
“Ma’am, you can go in.” The guard opens the door slightly for me to walk in. I swallow the burning ball in my throat, stopping by the shut door behind me as I stared at the figure standing by his long wooden desk, eyes on the file in his hand. Ethan Bouchard.
He lookes alluring as always. His hair is no longer tied in a bun, instead it's sleaked back; he looks more handsome, though, but at the same time, he seems more unapproachable than before.
“Why are you back here?”
His deep voice is the last thing to make me realize that the crush is still there, that little excitement that blooms immediately, I throw my gaze away…just like ten years ago. It's more complicated this time, he has someone by his side now, and I...I'm here to hurt him.
“You hired me.”
He shut the file, to the extent that the harsh sound makes me flinch. He finally lifts his head to meet my gaze. My body shivers from shame; not only did I make myself look like his fiancée, but I went against my word from ten years ago.
I slid some strand of my hair behind my ear, squeezing my bag with my other hand.
“Don’t play fool with me, Alexa Côté. You applied for this job, what’s your mission?”
Everything freezes at that moment; my heart beating drums in the confines of my chest. I have to act normal, I need to be normal. He’s one of the hardest people to go through. If I need to remain in this house and find my father’s murderer, I need him to not know that I have a mission.
“If you have nothing to say, then leave.”
“I just need money.” I begin, and it seems to be working, because he doesn't try to call the guards to kick me out.
So I take a step forward, avoiding closing the distance between us.
“My mum and I are stranded. I made other applications, but I never got one.” Lies. “I thought since I’m familiar, I would be able to secure the PA position, and I saw the pay was good enough to take care of my mother also, so, I applied.”
Ethan squints his eyes and tilts his head. I try to keep eye contact this time, hoping my response is convincing enough.
The door burst open, and Chloe march in.
“She can’t work anywhere in the Mansion, Ethan, you know that. Fire her immediately, if your parents hears of this, he would be provoked and the first lady-” She pauses, shoots me a bad eye, then walks past me.
My chest tightens as she rests her cheek on his chest, hugging him by the waist, and she
whines.
“Call the guards and kick her out, Ethan,”
Ethan and I keeps eye contact, and I can only hope he doesn’t reject me. My heart is already shattering into a thousand pieces.
Please just let me in for the sake of our past.
EthanI never made it clear Alexa's mother to keep my sponsoring away from Alexa, but I hope she did. Alexa already hated my family she might think I am trying to silence her. And right now that she’s frozen after I shot her with the truth, I am beyond scared. Alexa seems like an egg slowly cracking, almost about to shatter and spill in my hands. “Come in, I just prepared lunch.” Alexa'a Mother gestured but my gaze remained on Alexa who’s expression I could barely read. She rarely had a straight face, and now she does, I can't help but be worried. The meal is set out on the table and Alexa was the first to dig in. Quiet, clearly not willing to speak to anyone. “I’m sorry I never got to say a proper appreciation. I’m ashamed actually” Alexa’s mother chuckled, not the kind that showed she was happy, perhaps a bit, but her eyes hung low, unable to meet my gaze. “And your parents-” The sound of metal smacking the wooden table echoed through the small dinning walls. Alexa…“I will pay
AlexaBut then the door burst open right before my eyes. The police men that rushed in to grab Johan blurred. What caught my whole attention, causing me to freeze, was him…Ethan. The minute I got myself back, I began searching for myself. Where could he have placed it? Did he really bug me? He has no reason to do that. Or could it be he’s scared of what I discover? “Are you okay?” I yank his hand off me immediately, as he held my hand. “Let him go,” I quickly walk past him to the police men. I need to get an explanation; no one badges in without explaining the reason why someone is being forcefully arrested. Also, a part of me knew this was one of Ethan's pulling strings. They did halt, but he was still cuffed. “Can you at least explain what's happening?” “I did nothing,” Johan tried to defend. I pitied him a little, although he was about to do something against my will. But he never did, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that what happened was just years' worth of rele
I feel sick and filthy with no purpose and disgust running through my blood. Regardless of how much I scrub my skin, the fact that they had their hands around me still pierced through my brain and tortured me. It seems Ethan knew what was best, because right now I needed a break. From this toxic mansion, Chloe's endless plot to harm me and Ethan’s parents, with their judgement. And home was the answer.I sent a brief message to mother about my return before I stepped out of my room. And she had responded so fast as though she had been waiting for it. I have also texted Johan. More like responded on his check-up message, and then he managed to know about me returning home today since he was asking if I would be in the office today. However, as I walked out, a car was parked right before the worker's car. A pretty rare situation. “Master ordered that I drop you off.” Ethan? “I will be fine on my own, for tell him I got a ride already.” The driver nodded before I walked away. I felt
Ethan This just got way more complicated. Since Johan came into the picture, nothing has been the same. I haven’t been acting the same, fuck I no longer think. Like last night, I was full on about to have sex with Alexa, the same Alexa that I used to see as a little sister. Yes, I always cared and pitied her, then and even now. But I certainly did not have my heart skipping beats when she’s close to me, or wanting to pull her by her waist and taste her lips. Fuck I still recall how she tasted last night. Like mint and grape. It drove me insane to the point that it fired me up, in addition to seeing her leaving with Johan. I never believed Chloe, but I was too fired up and needed her to see I am fucking pissed and jealous. And my fucked up attitude got us here. “Father, I was going to come see you also.”“Don't try to change the topic, Ethan. What were you doing, hugging this lowlife? Are you now cheating on Chloe? Have you truly been bewitched?”That's insane. Everything is insan
Alexa“Let’s take her out.” “What? The security will notice dumbass, let’s just leave her here.” They kept on discussing as the banging continued, and Ethan kept roaring for me to step out. He was enraged. I know it, but his anger was at no level to me being raped. I was harshly tossed to the side as the men glared at me, and in the blink of an eye, they were both jumping out of my window. It’s a surprise that they could fit through. I ripped out the tape from my mouth, wincing but rushing to get to the door. Fucking Chloe, she’s got it coming for her. Wait until Ethan hears about what you did. The door flung open right as I was about to turn the doorknob, and it took a slight dodge for me to avoid being slammed by the door. But that didn’t matter as I rushed closer to Ethan. “Oh my- You’re now playing games, acting like you went out, but are you a witch now also?” Chloe gasped, her face showing nothing but genuine surprise. Goodness she would pass as an actress. I turned my at
Alexa My heart is my fucking throat. I literally had my toes curled. It’s not a dream, it didn't feel like one as he asked me to take responsibility for his hard-on. I was about to speak, but his phone rang violently in the moment. In that same moment, the image of my father smiling flashed through my mind and I pushed Ethan off immediately, jumping off to my feet. “What the fuck, Alexa?!” Ethan yelled. “ This never happened,” I muttered before proceeding to walk out the door. It felt more like I was convincing myself, but it did happen, I made out with Ethan, a suspect of my father’s death. It’s clear he knows something, and it’s on to something. I should be hating myself for telling me nothing, but there I was kissing him passionately, about to have sex with him. I rushed past the crowd with my head down, flinching when a hand rested on my shoulder. I jumped backing away, only to meet Johan’s shocked gaze. “Hey, what’s wrong, are you okay?” He rushed towards me. I was not
Alexa Ethan’s phone rang, causing him to walk back as though he had just realized what he was doing. Even I, at some point was lost in it, I stood there waiting, and half hoping he was really trying to kiss me. But now, how can I be sure when he throws me a disgusted glare and walks out the door,
Alexa She let out a brief laugh in disbelief. “You really did return, desperate to take what’s not yours, huh?” She catwalked, staring me down as though trying to degrade me. I almost felt my confidence being stripped away, just as when I was younger, Chloe knew just what to say to Ethan to make
Alexa The hallways felt longer today, but I made it to the dining hall. My heart was beating even faster when I reached the dining space and all heads turned to me in disgust. Nose scrunching, eyes glaring at me I didn’t need anyone to tell me I was about to be stuck in a hot soup for a long whil
AlexaI watched Ethan turn his back and walked out of the room as though he hadn’t stayed by my side all through waiting for me to wake, as though he wasn’t by my side begging me to stay awake. Bullshit, he could be doing all this out of guilt. But that’s what aches my heart more, if he did this o
