Who doesn’t know the Alcázars?

In this city, mentioning that name alone was enough to make rooms fall silent.

The Alcázar Group wasn’t just powerful; it was untouchable. A corporate empire built on steel, finance, technology, and international investments that stretched far beyond the country.

They didn’t follow rules. They rewrote them.

Everyone knew that. Camilla knew that.

The moment the name left Ms. Alvarez’s lips, something sharp rang inside Camilla’s head.

Valerio Alcázar.

That name wasn’t unfamiliar. And although she doesn’t really know who the man is, she knew how much power that name holds.

Her husband’s company had once desperately tried to affiliate with the Alcázar Group.

She remembered the countless late nights Leandro spent pacing their bedroom, talking about how one signature from an Alcázar could elevate his company into a completely different league.

“He doesn’t even attend negotiations,” Leandro once scoffed bitterly. “He sends people to reject you. That’s how powerful that Alcázar is.”

Camilla had never seen his face. She never met him. She only knew the name.

And now—

Now that man was the biological father of the child growing inside her.

Her hands slowly clenched into fists.

“That’s not… funny,” Camilla said hoarsely, forcing a laugh that didn’t reach her eyes. “This isn’t funny at all.”

No one laughed back.

Dr. Ramirez looked pale. Ms. Alvarez pressed her lips together, her fingers tightening around the folder.

“It’s not a joke, Camilla,” Ms. Alvarez said carefully. “The genetic confirmation is absolute. There is no room for doubt.”

Camilla’s chest began to rise and fall rapidly.

“You expect me to believe,” she said slowly, her voice shaking, “that out of all men in this country—out of all patients—that man… is involved?”

Dr. Ramirez nodded once. “The Alcázar Group schedules private procedures under strict confidentiality. The sample was coded, but the internal ID overlapped with another patient’s reference number. That overlap caused—”

“I don’t care about your explanations!” Camilla snapped, slamming her palm on the table as she suddenly stood up. The chair scraped loudly against the floor.

Both of them flinched.

“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” she demanded, her voice breaking. “Do you have any idea who that man is?”

“We do,” Ms. Alvarez said quietly. “That’s why we contacted you immediately.”

Camilla let out a shaky breath, running a hand through her hair.

“And now you’re telling me he’s connected to me?”

Dr. Ramirez swallowed hard. “Camilla—”

“Do not ever tell that man about this,” Camilla said sharply. “The mistake was already enough bullshit. Don’t add more.”

The two of them coughed awkwardly at the same time.

“Uh… Mrs. Vega—” Ms. Alvarez started.

“And stop calling me Mrs. Vega,” Camilla snapped, spinning toward her. “From now on, I am Camilla Montoya.”

Ms. Alvarez nodded stiffly. “Understood… Camilla.”

Camilla’s hands trembled, but she forced herself to stay upright.

“I want this erased,” she said firmly. “I want no records. No leaks. This never happened.”

Ms. Alvarez hesitated. “Camilla… the thing is—”

Camilla’s eyes narrowed. “What.”

Ms. Alvarez glanced at Dr. Ramirez before speaking again.

“Mr. Alcázar already knows.”

The words hit Camilla harder than anything else that day.

“What?” she breathed.

“He was informed immediately after the internal confirmation,” Ms. Alvarez continued carefully. “Given the severity of the error and the parties involved, protocol required—”

Her chair screeched loudly as Camilla shoved it back.

“You told him?” she whispered in disbelief. “You told him before telling me?!”

Ms. Alvarez quickly raised her hands. “Not directly. His legal and medical representatives were notified first. But—”

Camilla’s eyes widened as something clicked.

“And where is he now?”

“He’s on the way here. He wants to meet the woman that’s carrying his child,” Ms. Alvarez lowered her voice.

Camilla’s blood ran cold.

“What?” she gasped. “No. No, no, no. This can’t be.”

Her heart slammed violently against her chest. The first thing she thought was that they might see each other here. And that can’t fucking happen. It will make the situation worse.

She hurriedly grabbed her bag, panic flashing across her face.

“Tell him he doesn’t have a child with me,” she said quickly, backing toward the door. “I’m out of this. Forget everything.”

“Camilla, please—” Dr. Ramirez stood up. “We need to discuss—”

“I said forget it!” she shouted, her voice cracking. “I don’t want anything from all of you. Be thankful that I don’t have the capacity to sue this clinic now. So do as what I say, leave me and my child alone!!”

Ms. Alvarez stepped forward. “You can’t just leave. This situation involves—”

“I don’t care who it involves,” Camilla snapped. “I refuse to be dragged into another man’s mess.”

She turned and yanked the door open.

“Camilla!” Dr. Ramirez called after her.

She didn’t stop. She didn’t look back.

Her footsteps echoed down the hallway as she rushed past nurses and staff while her mind was spinning in chaos.

Valerio Alcázar.

She doesn’t know if she wants to be thankful because Leandro isn’t the father of her child. That the man who cheated on her has no ties with her now.

But at what cost? Now an even more dangerous man she doesn’t even know aside from the name is the one connected to her through their child.

But she swore to herself…

No matter what it took, Valerio Alcázar would never be part of her life. Nor her child’s.

Camilla walked into their house with her mind still in a haze and her chest tight, as though the air itself refused to fill her lungs. She didn’t want to be here. This house was full of memories, reminding her of everything. Every wall, every corner screamed Leandro and what he had done. She had come here for her things. Grab them and leave. That was the plan. She didn’t want to see him. She didn’t want to see her life turned into a cage of reminders of what she had lost. The moment she opened the door, a sound froze her blood. The soft, familiar laugh of Bianca. And then Leandro’s deep chuckle beneath it.Them again? They were in the living room. She could hear their flirtatious remarks, the teasing tone, the kind of intimate banter that made her skin crawl.“You know we’re finally free now. I don’t think your wife will bother us anymore. Damn, if only you could see her pained face earlier,” Bianca purred, her tone low and teasing.Leandro laughed at that.“Let’s not talk about her a

Camilla walked without direction. Her heels had long stopped hurting. She wasn’t even sure how long she had been walking, only that her legs kept moving while her mind stayed trapped in that office. She had nowhere to go.She couldn’t return to their house. That place no longer felt like home. Every corner would remind her of him. The walls would scream betrayal. So she kept walking. She didn’t know how she ended up at the park. She just needed somewhere open, somewhere that didn’t suffocate her chest. She sat down on an empty bench as her shoulders slumped and her hands trembled, so she pressed them against her thighs. Her tears finally fell. It was silent at first, then harder, until it became a sob.She was alone. All her plans were now gone. Just… just how hard can this be.Then suddenly, her phone rang. The sound made her flinch. She hastily wiped her cheeks, brushing away the tears with the back of her hand as she pulled the phone from her bag. Her vision was still blurred when

“H-How can you do this to me?!” Camilla’s voice shook as she stepped back. Her whole body felt frozen, like she had walked into a nightmare that wouldn’t end.Leandro didn’t flinch. His eyes met hers coldly like she was already a stranger. “Camilla… why are you here?” he asked plainly. The shock few seconds ago now completely gone.“You bastard! You are fucking cheating and the first thing you ask me why I am here? Why? You dont want me to be here so I wouldnt know your cheating?!”Leandro massaged the bridge of his nose like Camilla is stressing him out.“Well now you saw it. Might as well end it here. Our marriage… it’s done. I’ve moved on.”Her chest tightened. “Moved on? You… you mean… you’ve already—”“Yes,” he interrupted, like it was the simplest fact in the world. “I can’t pretend I feel the same way I once did. I tried but I’m done. That’s it.”Camilla felt her stomach drop. “D-Done?” she whispered as her voice cracked. “After everything… none of it mattered to you?”He shr

“Ooohhh. That’s new. So you’ve given up on Camilla… your dear wife?” the woman asked softly. There was a pause, just long enough to make Camilla’s chest ache. How ironic. Just minutes ago, she had been smiling to herself in the hallway, still replaying the doctor’s words in her head. Her heart had been racing with excitement. Now it was racing for a completely different reason.“Yes,” he answered. “She can’t even give me a child. I stopped hoping a long time ago.”Her fingers curled slowly at her side. The words felt like something heavy crashing down on her chest. She wants to tell herself that she had heard him wrong. Maybe it wasn’t his voice. Maybe it was someone else inside the room. But she knew that voice too well.“She still believes, though. You even went through in vitro fertilization,” the woman said.“I didn’t want to crush her optimism. Letting her believe is easier than having the same argument over and over again,” Leandro replied flatly.Camilla felt her knees weaken

Camilla sat in the passenger seat, one hand resting on her purse while the other traced slow circles over the fabric of her dress. She smiled when she saw the fertility clinic come into view. She didn’t know why, but something about today made her feel at ease. She turned to her husband, Leandro with her big smile still etched on her face. “So… you’re coming in with me, right?” she said, hopeful.Leandro’s grip on the steering wheel tightened for a second before he relaxed. “I actually need to go to the office now. Something urgent came up,” he replied. Her smile faltered slightly. “Oh. I thought you could accompany me. You went home so late last night and said you finished all your work so you could be with me now.”“Oh, come on, Camilla,” Leandro said, a little irritated. “I’m going to take over the company soon, so I have to make sure everything’s well. Also, it’s not like there’s something big going on. You’re just going there for a checkup, right?”Camilla nodded, forcing the
