I watched him put it in his pocket. “You wouldn't be needing this for now,” he told me. I raised my brows, confused. “Why? I always need my phone, give it back” I held my hands out expectantly. “I'll give it back later,” he replied, shrugging. “Well, I don't understand what silly games you are playing this time Sebastian Wolfe but I would like my phone back this very minute, I don't care about what you think” “Fine,” he agreed and reached out for me. I flinched and jumped away as fast as I could. He frowned but he didn't say anything and I didn't know whether he actually understood or if he was simply pretending. I decided not to ask and to take my chances with it. He dropped the phone on the bed instead of handing it to me and soon he was walking towards the door. “I'm going downstairs, I'll send my chauffeur around to pick you up,” “Wait, you aren't coming?” “No” he said matter of factly. He turned around and I saw something flash across his eyes, something very dark and cold, it scared me but also intrigued me. He gave me one last glance, turned and was gone without another word. And just like he had said, one of the maids came knocking. “The chauffeur is ready to take you to your destination ma’am” she said politely without looking me in the eye. “Yes, thank you” I told her and headed out the door. Once I reached the gates, I noticed that the reporters were no longer there . I wondered whether Sebastian had been successful in persuading them off. Once I got in the car, I was able to breathe a less suffocating sigh of relief. I could feel that someone was watching me though. The chauffeur, why? “We need to stop by the mall, I need to get a few things” I requested and the driver nodded. When we got to the mall and I stepped out, it felt normal until it didn't. I could feel people's eyes on me. I thought maybe the news of my sudden marriage to Sebastian had made it out of the city. But their looks weren't that of curiosity or admiration, it was more along the lines of disdain and disgust. Some people looked like they would faint if the air wasn't enough. They all whispered among themselves as if I was the plague or an infection. They were talking about me like I was a freak. I couldn't bear it. I had to get out of here. It was too crowded. I couldn't stand it anymore. I walked back into the car. “Why is everyone looking at me?” I asked the driver. His eyes widened in shock when he realized that I was already back. “I have no idea, ma’am” But he was not a good liar, even when trying hard not to. I stared ahead, staring blankly. “What do you know?” I asked, turning to face him. “Ma'am, please don't worry about this. They are just upset because of the rumors” he assured me, but it sounded unconvincing. “What rumors?” I pressed on. He swallowed, looking nervously to the left and right, making sure that we were alone. “About your relationship” he mumbled quietly. I frowned, “My relationship?” I repeated. The words felt strange rolling off my tongue, almost wrong. He cleared his throat and averted his gaze for a second “You haven't gone through your phone all day?” I shook my head. I heard him mumble “Fuck” But I didn't care, at this point I was already going through my phone. My hands shook uncontrollably when I saw it. “Photos of heiress and newly wedded wife of Sebastian Wolfe and another man surfaced on the internet, few days after their secret wedding” The headline read in bold letters. Below was a picture of me from five years ago and one of the men I slept with. When was this photo taken? How did I not notice? Who sent it to the media? The next photo revealed the same thing with my arm slung across a new guy's shoulders, both of us wearing matching grins. I remember it well. I must have drunk a little too much that night. I only had my lingerie on. “Take me back” I ordered the chauffeur . My voice shook as I stared down at the screen. The picture followed me everywhere. Everywhere. I kept rewatching them on my phone. “We have arrived ma’am” the driver said to me and I forced myself to look at him again and nod my head. What was happening to me? I thought. Was I going insane? I was a little bit familiar with the stairs now, so I moved straight to Sebastian’s master bedroom. I couldn't face my grandfather , not with this new development, he would be ashamed of me. Sebastian was casually sitting on the bed. “You knew!” I spat at him unbelievably, I was ready to tear him into pieces. My body shook with so much anger. He raised his eyebrows, “Know what?” “That there was a rumor about me, not rumors. Photos about my past on the internet” I said furiously. My cheeks were burning. “I was under the impression that your family was not very open about such matters” he said coolly and I stared at him. How dare he insult my family? “And I also asked for your phone” His blue eyes narrowed at me. He was getting impatient, I could tell. I took a deep breath. “Did you think that would automatically fix things?” “Well, I fixed it” “That's a lie!” I shouted and took a step towards him. He stood abruptly from the bed and glared at me, I could see anger in those cold blue eyes. “Check again” His words sounded as if he was daring me. So I did, I checked again. It was as if the whole gossip vanished from the world, as if it was never there in the first place. It wasn't on my phone anymore nor on the blog I found it. “How did you…” His hand cupped my chin as he pulled me closer. Our breaths mixed together as he stared intently into my eyes. I didn't dare look away. “Don't you think you owe me a thank you?”Alina POVMy grandfather didn’t look pleased to see me, the anger on his face only deepening as I walked through the front door of one of his penthouses with my purse in hand. This was the agreed location and also to avoid any cameras that might follow me.I smiled awkwardly at him, and he just scowled even harder. “You’re are going to tell me what is going on”“Sure I am” I agreed, sounding a little more defensive than I had intended. He wasn’t exactly known for being the forgiving type. “What is going on? First it was the sudden marriage, and now those photos? Why did you not mention them?”“I didn't know they were in existence until yesterday grandfather” I bowed my head in shame. It didn't matter how much of my past I had tried to erase, they seemed to always find their way back to me, to where they truly belonged. It didn't matter if I hid or not.He sighed, running his hand down his face “Why couldn’t you have called first? It takes time for things like this to process.”“It

Alina POVThere were two things I knew for sure. First, Sebastian Wolfe was angry and whatever had annoyed him had us sitting next to each other in his private jet back to New York. And the second? I didn't give two shits, so I didn't ask.I didn't ask when we made our way back to the room we now had to share in the Wolfe's mansion even though I still thought it was unnecessary.I woke up to no sign of Sebastian by my side and I was glad I had the room to myself.I had my bath and got out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my body, my hair was still wet. The room smelled like lavender. It was my favorite smell.I moved the towel to my waist, my back turned to the door while I applied some lotion over my body. The door opened with full force but I wasn't fast enough to wrap myself up with the towel. When I turned to look at the intruder, his eyes were wide, almost comically so and he looked down at me. I felt bare even though I now had a towel over me.His eyes moved from my
Alina POVNot too long after Sebastian had left for his room, I decided to call it a night myself. I was completely spent and I needed to relax. I found his aunt by one of the tables talking with her daughters. I excused myself, telling them I was extremely tired and needed some rest.“Oh that’s understandable. Come, I’ll walk you up to your room,” Sebastian's aunt offered.I was inclined to decline but she was already getting on her feet and coming around the table to meet me. I sighed as I took her hand which she surprisingly offered me again and allowed her to lead me up the staircase. While we walked, she peppered me with some personal questions. Then she started asking me about her nephew and what I thought about him. It confused me at first but I told her the only honest thing that I could. He was quite honest with his dealings and very straight to the point.‘Oh that’s my Seb. He’s always been that way. Too uptight, doesn’t let himself relax”We were now in front of a bedroom
Sebastian POV“She’s easy on the eyes, cousin”I did not have to turn around to know it was Alex –Al as our mothers liked to call him, who had spoken. In his hand, he held a plate of food piled high. “Whose eyes?” I asked without looking at him.“Come on, it’s hard not to look”“But not impossible, try”He chuckled, recognizing my twisted sense of humor for what it was even though a part of me was serious.I looked away from him just as he picked up another piece of chicken from his plate and took a large bite.It was one of the greatest mysteries of Alex. How did he manage to eat that much and still remain fit. With his inconsistencies at the gym and several social disorders. But I knew how. Which was exactly why I was giving him the look I currently was.“What?” He laughed and struck my arm with his elbow, playfully of course.“You know what”“Relax, I’m not going to touch her. She’s your wife. Come on, man, you’ve got to give me more credit than that”Then I really looked at him a
AlinaI was suddenly nervous at the prospect of meeting his other family, I was even more confused on what exactly I was doing here.“Do you want to shower and get changed first?” Sebastian went on, unperturbed by my worries,My palms were sweaty. I indiscreetly rubbed them against my skirt while he stood there peering at me curiously like he could see through the brave mask I was trying to put on.“Actually, I was hoping to talk to you first”Sebastian only raised his brow for a second before turning around. “We’d go somewhere private”I followed him around the curve of the staircase to the hallway beyond. There were a series of doors leading out of the hallway on both sides of us. Large windows flanked the exterior walls revealing the fields around the house. I decided that if I had time to do anything else, I would walk around the grounds. Finally, Sebastian turned open a door and we descended three steps into a sunken den decorated with plush carpets and dark walls. He offered me
AlinaThe pain was immediate and excruciating but I kept myself together. I didn't cry, I didn't move, I didn't react. Not for long anyway. It was a good thing that I had learned self-control. “Mother!” Sebastian yelled angrily. He walked up to his mother and pulled her away from me. “Now you lis
AlinaIt all moved so fast, one minute I was asking him why he was stalking me and the other minute, I somehow found myself in the living room with my grandfather and Sebastian Wolfe.“We are getting married” Sebastian announced confidently and the room fell silent. It was typical of him to always
Alina POV“Sir your fiancee is here” I heard his receptionist say from behind the door.Sebastian didn't make any attempt to move so I pushed him. What surprised me was the way my hands tingled as I pushed him further away and the fact that he did not object. We stared at each other for a moment
AlinaPanic engulfed me as I stared at the moving body, there was no way I was going to be part of a murder case, not when I had just started living, not with everything else.“What the hell have you done? He is not breathing, he is not moving!” I screamed at Sebastian in the middle of my panic att
